Birds of Prey

Prologue

The Falcon's Secret

I woke up startled. I looked around my room to find the source of the startling noise. Various posters of various things covered the giant blanket of white, which were my bedroom walls. My eyes finally reached the side table next to my bed. I let out a tiring groan, and slammed the 'snooze' button on my alarm clock.

"Dad better have a good reason for getting me up early." I said with my face buried in my pillow.

I finished complaining and got out of bed. I took a shower, and then got dressed. I put on a black sleeveless shirt, black jeans, black work boots, and black leather gloves. I tied my long white hair into it's usual ponytail so that the red streaks in it went back. I walked out of my room only to find my dad sitting in the living room reading the newspaper. It was a daily argument in my mind weather to greet him or not, once again the 'no's' have it.

I walked into the garage to find our F-Zero racers sitting in the middle of it. On the left was my dad's machine the Golden Fox, and mine, which was a total wreck after my last joy ride, the Crimson Phoenix. But it's an easy fix for me I built the Crimson Phoenix with my own two hands. I based it's design off of the original blue-prints my grandfather designed for the Golden Fox. Still, I wrecked her last week trying to catch Blood Falcon.

The week before…

I was just out having a good time with my friends, when I had got a message saying to meet someone at the practice track, for reasons I didn't even know. When I had made it to the practice track, I found the last person I'd expect to see…Blood Falcon and his deadly ride the Blood Hawk. Just looking at him gave made me shiver. I got right down to the point. "What do you want?" I asked.

He smirked. "The question is do you want to know?"

I clenched my fist. "Of course I do, or else I wouldn't have come out here. What do you know?"

"What you want to know…a key secret to your past." He responded. "But you're going to have to beat me in a race to know. Five laps, no boosters."

"Fine." I spat, and got into my machine while he did the same.

I was beating him good until the final lap where he pulled a cheep trick wiping me out and all most killing me.

He pulled up to my machine and yanked me out of it, by the shirt collar and dropped me onto the floor. Even though I had lost he told me the secret any way. He leaned down and whispered into my ear. "You and I are sort of brethren…created from the same lab. If you want to know more, all you have to do is ask your dear old dad."

He left me where I lay and drove away. Moments later I was picked up by the paramedics, and was taken to hospital. Later on that night my dad picked me up and took me home.

And that's the end of that story.

I was still staring at my broken machine, with my fist clenched so hard that they were turning white. I walked into the living room in front of my dad. "What did he mean?" I asked him.

Dad looked at me and sighed. "So you know…I don't know much, but I'm sorry for not telling you."

I hung my head and cracked a small smile. "Don't worry about it…it just that--"

My dad cut me off. "It's been stuck in you head hasn't it? You're becoming so predictable, son."

"I'm sorry if I scared you." I closed off the conversation.

I went back to garage and hopped into the Golden Fox. I quickly drove off to the parts store to buy some new equipment for the Crimson Phoenix.
