Inuyasha was sitting by the old Goshibunku tree. The others were sleeping in Kaede’s hut. He just wanted to be alone. It was the anniversary of his mother’s death. He could still remember that day. After his mother’s death, the servants treated him like scum. There was one particular maid who was especially cruel to him. She sang this one song just to remind him of how unworthy he was. " Learn to Be Lonely Inuyasha. You'll always be lonely" Her words still rung in his head.

Born into emptiness

“ Inuyasha, you worthless hanyou, why are you still here?”

Learn to find your way in darkness

“ You don’t belong here, you never did. Go away. You have no place here any longer!”

Who will be there for you,
comfort and care for you?

“ No one will ever love you! You are an abomination!You should have been killed at birth!”

Inuyasha ran away a month after the day his mother passed on. Those words stayed with him for so long. He didn’t think anyone would accept him until he met Kikyo...no. She didn’t either. She wanted him to become human. The only person who ever automatically accepted him as him, was Kagome.

“ Inuyasha! I love you just the way you are! Stay a hanyou, please? Just a little longer?”

He loved Kagome too. He was too scared to tell her. Scared that she would come to her senses and leave him. Her arms would always hug him, whether he wanted a hug or not. She feared for him, she cared about him. All his life he was told ‘learn to be lonely, Inuyasha.’ but Kagome defied those people anyway.

“ Inuyasha?” Kagome came up to him. Inuyasha looked up. “ Inuyasha what’s wrong?”

“ Nothing.”

“ Okay...” She didn’t pry. “ Dinner’s ready...”

“ I’ll be there in a second.” He said. Kagome smiled.

“ Okay. I’ll be back at the hut.”She turned away and started walking. Inuyasha sighed. He always pushed her away. He just couldn’t help but remember all those time that woman hurt him emotionally. He was only a little boy.

He didn’t wan’t to be lonely anymore. He wanted to live life to the fullest.

“ Wait Kagome.” Inuyasha said. Kagome turned to him.

“ Yeah?” Kagome asked. She walked back over to him. Inuyasha stood up and looked her in the eye. “ Are you okay?” Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a hug. “ Inuyasha...”

“ Thank you. Thank you for not letting me be lonely anymore.” he whispered. Kagome let happy tears fall and she hugged him back.

“ You’re welcome Inuyasha. No one should ever be so alone.” She whispered back. Inuyasha would have cried if he wasn’t so stubborn. But she knew that he was crying on the inside. But he was happy now. They broke the embrace. Kagome took his hand

“ No one should ever be so alone.” Her words replaced all those insults in his head. He did learn to be lonely, like those women sang and told him. But he didn’t have to. Now, he loved the little life he had. Even if he had to fight Naraku day in and day out. He proved all those servants wrong. Life could be loved with others. Not just...
