After Yami's victory at Battle City Mai, Bakura, and Joey had returned to there bodies in one piece. Marik was now normal. As normal as he could get anyway. Battle City was finally over, and everyone returned to there regular life’s. The sunset of the day after battle city spread across the ocean of the beach like a colored eclipse, so bright and beautiful. Mai, sitting upon a small beach mineral gazing out onto the horizon. The sand mixed grass setting itself between her bare toes. Everything was so calm and quiet, only the brisk splashing of the sea waves agents the shore made its sounds an charming seagulls squawking there harmonious melody. The sea breeze made its warm soothing touch through her maze of hair, lifting the blond strands like waves on the sea. Trapped in her own thoughts, lost in the past. Moments later her ears caught hold of a pair of foot steeps making there way towards her. It was him the one who cried the hardest for her when she was trapped in the realm of shadows by evil Marik. It was funny Joey was a regular dunce head and almost always messed things up. But yet he was the nicest guy she had ever took the time to know. She looked up to his face, his hair lightly flowing from his face. He sat next to her on the same rock. He looked into her eyes then looked out to the sea. Embarrassed perhaps.

"Hey Mai what'cha doing out here?" He simply asked starring out onto the endless horizon.

"I don't know. I guess I'm just thinking about the past. When we were on the blimp..." She responded in a tranquil tone.

"Why are you thinking about that? Its not like its anything important anymore. Right?" He looked back at her face happily.

"Yea I guess so. I don't know why but its been bothering me." Mai only answered. It was like she was hypnotized by the ocean.

"Sooo, why'd ya come here to think?" He asked.

"Its a stupid family story." Mai closed her eyes.

"Whoa, come on you can tell ol'Joey now. We're friends remember?" He reverted back to his fun loving self.

"Well when I was young my parents moved around a lot and we never spent more then a few months in one place. I remember when we got this one house. My parents took me to the beach that was near and it was the most wonderful day I've ever had. Its was the only time that I actually spent with my parents when they had no place to be. They told me that one day they would take me back to the beach. But that day never came. Now that I can, I come the beach all the time. To think, and sometimes just for fun." Mai told her story as if she was reliving the experience.

Mai's story reminded Joey of the promise he made to his sister years ago. "Reminds me of when I was young. I took my sis to the beach once, and promised her I would take her back again. But then our parents separated so I never got the chance. I felt real bad afterwards. But I guess I sorta made up for it with the money for her eye operation. Know wha I mean?" He flopped on his back over the rock. The suns ultraviolet rays warmed the stone before it touched his skin giving his back a nice warm cot.

Few seconds past. Mai then broke the silence "I envy you Joey..." slipped out.

"aaaww?” Joey looked over to her with a confused expression on his face.

"Well...never mind." She got up from her seat and began to walk towards the golden ocean.

Joey flung himself upwards to watch her wonder away from him. "Mai..." He stood up and slid down the bank to follow her.

She stopped in front of the shore. Watching the waves run up agents her feet. She saw a pair of shoes join next to hers. She looked up to him.

"Ya know Mai, we have lots more in common then you think." Joey told her. Mai began to create that same defensive shield looking away. "I'm serous Mai. Well before my parents split up I was pretty happy. I had my mom and sister. My father, ha, he was always a jerk. Then my parents split up, My mom taking my sister, and leaving me with my father. After that everything just went down hill……" He continued.

"At least you once had a full family. The only time my mom and dad and I were ever a family was on that trip. sigh otherwise I was always left alone. You had friends, I never had any. That’s why I envy you Joey." She turned way from him.

Joey Placed a hand delicately upon her shoulder. "You have'em now. Besides what more cold you ask for in a friend then Me, Joey Wheeler." He made a strike to cheer her up. He laughed cockily.

Mai stared at him then turned to face him head on. She knocked him playfully on the forehead "Your such a dunce, Joey." He rubbed his head sheepishly and giggled. He stopped, feeling something lean agents him gingerly. Mai was now leaning silently agents him like a pillow. "Thank You...You are a great friend, Joey. Yugi and the others are lucky." She praised him lovingly.

Joey wrapped his arms around Mai and tenderly snuggled her. Seconds later he broke the embrace. She looked up to him, her face lit from the mirror of fruity colors woven together to height-light her beauty. Joey could only stair deeply into her eyes glimmering attractively from the sun.

Joey, nor Mai could overcome themselves. There faces drew near one another. Within moments there lips met in a more passionate embrace. It was like nothing either had ever felt. It was as if heaven on earth. The ground beneath there feet could crumble and collapses with neither chairing. Only the lush taste of one another lips could penetrate there minds.

Kitty: Yes I know late. I finished this at like 1:00 am on a Monday morning. And my eyes hurt. I was just stuck on what song I should put for the ending and when as I was falling asleep about a wile later "This I Promise You" started playing in my mind for no reason what so ever. So I thought it fit with this story and that’s how I got it. I got the lyrics from an N'sync fan site. I hope you also liked the small poem I put in.
