Notes: So, this is the entire story, from start to finish. It is complete, in other words. It starts out uncomfortable... it is meant to be that way... in time you will see that not all masks are perfect blinds to those that know you well. Special thanks to gibbsgirl for her patience in reading and catching my typos. She was also very instrumental in the final chapters coming out as something worth reading. Also thank you to betagoddess and aerianya for reading along and nudging me for more. I hope that it's what you were looking for.
Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Jim, Blair, Simon or the boys. The entire Sentinel project is owned by Pet Fly and their affiliates. I DO own Charlene Williams, and anyone that has to do with the Florida side of it all... all original characters, in other words.
Prologue
Two weeks after the Press Conference:
Blair Sandburg was exhausted. It was a simple fact, not to be overly concerned about by any normal person. Jim Ellison was no normal person; a fact often looked over by the majority of Major Crimes. Not by Blair though, and not by Simon Banks; Captain of Major crimes within Cascade PD, the division that Blair had been observing for the last four years.
The real reason had been Jim and his enhanced senses. Blair had been an undergraduate with Rainier University, majoring in anthropology. When he met Jim, he was faced with an anomaly that he had been searching for, for years. A Sentinel, a warrior with enhanced senses… all five of them to be exact… with no way of controlling them. The deal had been that Blair would teach Jim how to use and control these abilities. And in return, Blair would use the time to gather information for his dissertation. It didn’t take long for that deal to go out the window in favor of their friendship.
But four years is a relatively short time in life that could have lasted forever, had it not been for the dissertation fiasco which lead to the press conference and marked an end to Blair’s life as a student. His dreams for doctorate gone, Blair was given a new lease on life and a new direction when Jim and the rest of Major Crimes gave him the opportunity of a life time… go through the academy and become a detective for real, working alongside Jim for life.
This brings the story back to this. Blair Sandburg was exhausted. And Jim noticed the moment his partner and Guide entered the building that was Cascade PD and Major Crimes headquarters. When the younger man walked out of the elevator, it was to walk into the hands of his Sentinel, who turned him right around and marched him back onto the open car.
“Hey man!” the little Guide perked up the minute he realized that it was his partner manhandling him into the modern day convenience. “Where’re we going? You get a new case?”
“Nope.” Great, one word answers…
“Meeting with a snitch?”
“Nope.” The big man settled against the wall of the elevator car and smiled lightly.
“Cold case lead pop up?” Blair was beginning to worry.
“Nope…” by now they had reached the garage and were walking towards the truck. “We are going home. You need to rest.”
Blair made as if to protest, even going so far as to grab Jim’s arm and haul him back to stand face to face in the underground garage. They never got the chance to find out why Jim didn’t hear the click of the bomb before it blew. They were totally unprepared.
