Symphony of the Masked Faces
The church was filled with hundreds of people as they gathered to watch the marriage I had waited my entire life to be in. My love, my best friend, my soul mate would be with me for better or for worse for the rest of our lives. Gazing up at the man I would call my husband in only minutes, I realized that he had been staring at me the entire time. His beautiful golden hues blazed with a variety or emotions almost undetectable from the others, but love outshined them all. His long silver locks caressed our joined hands as we turned towards the minister.
“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered together here in the sign of God – and in the face of this company – to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony, which is commended to be honorable among all men; and therefore – is not by any – to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly – but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly. Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together – let them speak now or forever hold their peace.” The minister said, his voice booming through the church. Behind me, I heard some shuffling and whispering before the click of oh so familiar heels.
“You can’t have him he’s mine!’ shouted Kikyo angrily. Sighing I turned around and faced the witch that had disturbed my wedding. Her black hair was swept up in a simple yet elegant bun, held up by two chopsticks. She was wearing a black v cut dress, a pair of studs shined in her ears. Black pumps adorned her feet. Letting go of my love’s hands I stepped toward Kikyo, about to start a fight when my mother jumped up.
“You sit your ass down Kikyo! I want me some grandchildren now!’ my mother shouted. Oh no she didn’t! Embarrassment flooded my senses and I felt my face become red.
“Kagome! What is sex?’ Souta asked as he jumped from his seat to join my mother. Turning towards my fiancé, I silently begged for a solution to this mess, but got a soft smile in return, as he grabbed my hands. Smiling I waited for the words of wisdom and comfort only he could give me…
“It’s seven- o- clock, time to get up it’s KTU bringing you the best on today’s top charts, and here at number 3 is Nelly Furtado with Promiscuous.’ The deejay on my alarm clock shouted, as the poppy dance music roused me from yet another one of my wonderful turned horrible wedding dreams.
Not another day’ I mumbled, shading myself from the blistering rays with my blanket.
“Back to hell demon!’ I yelled at the suns lights. But they would not let up; I could feel them burning the back of my legs. So I did what I did best… compromise. Well did as best I could with an inanimate object.
‘5 more minutes, just 5 and I’ll get up I swear.’ But the sun was not having it. Not today. Sighing I slid from the comfort of my beautiful bed; I opened my green orbs and adjusted them to the light. My room was simple enough; it was painted a golden yellow, it had a small flat screen TV, a radio, closet, desk, some drawers and shelves, it was neat enough, I had some pictures of friends and family, awards, recognitions and diplomas. But deep underneath the confines of my bed laid a vast mass of junk varying from old socks to soda cans to magazines and cookie crumbs. Excuses to clean it later, had built up to broken promises which has built up to denying which has built up to disregarding the matter totally. Stretching I grabbed my towel and walked towards the bathroom.
One up to living alone was having to never wait to pee.
Stepping into the dark green bathroom, I turned on the shower and looked at my reflection in the mirror. My untamed hair was finally straight; my cheeks had taken on a rosy color and contrasted against the deep green of my eyes. My eyelids drooped giving me a cat eyed look but that would go away when I woke up some more. For some reason I always looked better during the mornings, such a shame I wasted it on sleeping instead of going out instead. Stepping into the warm water, I groaned as the phone rang.
One down to living on your own… mother’s daily phone calls.
'I’ll call her back later, I thought letting my message machine go on.
‘Hey this is Kagome, I can’t get to the phone right now but leave a message after the beep and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Bye!’
‘Kagome! This is your mother. How come you never answer your phone? Are you out with a man? Tell him I’m getting old! I want grandchildren! Call me back, we’ll meet for tea. Love you, bye.’ My mom screeched into the phone, after 10 years she still didn’t know how to talk into the phone without yelling. Sighing at my mothers familiar antics, I smiled; my mom was a very interesting person. Anyways maybe I should do a formal introduction…
Hi! I’m Kagome Higurashi, I’m 23 years old and I live in New York City. I’m a wedding coordinator or ‘planner’ whichever you prefer it means the same thing. I’m single as of now. My mom is crazy and wants grandchildren as you heard from the message, my grandfather is crazy and wants great-grandchildren, and my brother wants a niece…well preferably a nephew. Sango always tough and beautiful is my right hand; she’s my best friend and has been since we’ve been in 2nd grade. Miroku the pervert aka Sango's boyfriend, Inuyasha my ex-boyfriend turned friend, Kouga, who though really sweet, has wanted to marry me at 15 are a part of my strange and amazing group of friends.
Oh, and then there's Hojo, my next door neighbor who leaves odd presents on my doorstep.
Wrapping my towel around me I stepped out of the shower and opened my bathroom door, shivering as a gust of cold wind sent shivers down my back, attempting to run back to my room I rounded around the corner without looking and effectively crashed into an extremely hard body at an extremely fast speed, which sent me and the asshole who was in my way onto the ground.
‘Nice to meet you here Kagome.’ The familiar voice said, well said as best as he could since my arm had collided with his face. 'Sorry I used your other shower, I swear the plumbers are messing around with my pipes.' Feeling my eyes widen I jumped off of the body I had landed on in a split second. Gazing at the body of my best friend, my eyes betrayed me and almost jumped out of their sockets. He was in a towel. A simple light blue towel wrapped around his lower body, blocking my view from his other assets but leaving many others for my eyes to gaze at hungrily. His long silver strands clashed against the wood of the floor, yet melded perfectly to the pale unblemished skin only he possessed. His golden flamed eyes were hidden under drooping eyelids. His face full of contours and curves made you believe as if he was almost formed from stone. His pale pink lips were slightly ajar, showing a row of straight white teeth. My eyes roamed lower to gaze at the six pack he had, and roamed lower down to his hip bones, before the evil towel blocked my view. Though this exchange only lasted about 3 seconds it felt like an eternity for me.
Oh yeah did I forget to mention him? He, He. Silly ol’ me. That hunk of a man laying provocatively on my floor is my best friend, Sesshomaru Taisho. And if you haven’t figured it out by now… he’s the love of my life…
Oh and he’s taken.
Hey I hoped you enjoy the first chapter. This was edited July 1st 2008, so if you see any changes, it's not your brain messing with you, it's me fixing up the story and tying up some loose ends and huge mistakes!
