The Pit of Despair!

Westley was determined not to scream. He vowed as The Machine took every ounce of life from his body that he wouldn't scream. Not as Prince Humperdinck watched. The Machine was set at 50, and Westley knew well that since he was only 22, that he would die. But he wouldn't scream, no matter the pain.

Prince Humperdinck stood over Westley, grinning evilly. How dare this peasant wish to marry Buttercup? It wasn't fair!

As The Machine sucked his twentieth year away, Westley knew that he only had that many years to go. He resisted screaming, but by year nineteen, he screamed. He couldn't stop screaming. He screamed as his tenth year was sucked away, then his fifth, then his second, then his first. His scream lingered behind in the Pit of Despair as he died and the scream ceased. All Westley knew was darkness.

Suddenly, Westley felt as if his entire body was on fire. He realized that the stories people told were true—heaven and hell did exist. And he knew that he surely wasn't in heaven. He cried out, but didn't feel like anyone who cared could hear.

Westley simply stood in hell, screaming. He did this for what seemed like millenniums. Then, all was black and he felt something being shoved gently down his throat. He opened his eyes and was met by the kind eyes of Fezzik and Inigo. Westley was alive!
