They had met up together hours before and it was already getting dark. Fireflies had been dancing around them, while mosquitoes helped themselves to her body. Stars were nearly visible and they still had about a half an hour to go. She was in no rush.
She let her eyes wander around, seeing the forest as though she had never seen it before. Trees towered above them, bowing to the right and left as though something was pushing them down. The grass beneath them was uneven and wild- just how she liked it. Bushes were dark and mysterious while eyes watched them in the shadows.
A slight breeze came every now and again, making her ankles cold and her hands numb. She shivered slightly but kept her focus.
Normally, they would wake up early in the morning to do this training/warm up for the day. However, since their sensei had told them there was to be a night workout session, they decided to move their warm up close to it.
Her gaze turned to Neji, and suddenly she couldn't breathe. Her throat was closing in, and she felt a few beads of sweat trail down her cheeks. A deeper blush than earlier that day had appeared on her face.
He took a swipe at her with kunai and she jumped backwards, stopping for a few seconds to get her focus in order.
Her vision faded in and out but she shook her head a little.
"Try and hit me," he taunted her, smirking as she tried.
Tenten gritted her teeth, narrowing her eyes as her kunai took a hit at him. It missed as usual. With his Byukagan activated, he was almost impossible to beat- almost.
One of these days, she thought, sweating, I'm going to beat you, Hyuuga Neji.
His white eyes held a bit of amusement as she took another swipe at him. He dodged it with ease.
She's distracted, thought Neji, cocking one eyebrow up. In fact, she's been distracted for quite some time now. I wonder why…
Normally, Tenten gave her full focus when she was fighting. Unfortunately for the past few weeks her aim and attention had been disappearing. The cause of this? Why, it was no other than Hyuuga Neji, the walking prodigy of the Hyuuga clan.
Tenten was becoming infatuated with him. She would watch him when he would train alone, admiring him from afar. Neji, being a clever ninja, always saw her and assumed that it was for technique purposes only- to find his weakness. She had let him believe this, but held the true reason in her heart. Tenten was in love.
Sadly, it took a toll on her. She had only a handful of hours of sleep in the past three weeks and she was exhausted.
Tenten's eyesight blurred for a moment. Blinking a few times, it returned to normal.
She dodged his attacks as they fought on their training grounds, moving swiftly out of the way as he punched, kicked and kneed. He smirked as she flipped backward, panting.
"You're distracted," said Neji, "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing," Tenten replied, throwing kunai at him with precision. He dodged. "Nothing at all."
He jumped behind her and gave a blow to her lower back. She fell to the ground and he shook his head.
"You're lying," Neji said, "Tell me the truth."
She threw shuriken from where she was but he had hidden in the trees.
"Why do you care?" Tenten asked, "We're here to train- not here to listen to my issues."
Neji came up from behind her once again and held her so she couldn't get away.
"When you're distracted," he hissed in her ear, "It affects the whole team. Either tell me or stop being unfocused."
He released her and folded his arms, waiting impatiently for an answer.
Tenten glared his way, and threw some kunai at him. He stepped out of their way.
"You're still distracted," said Neji, shaking his head, "Tell me. What's on your mind?"
She was silent and turned her head away in anger.
Neji narrowed his eyes.
"Fine," he seethed, "I'll have to get you focused another way."
He disappeared before her eyes and instantly she felt a punch hit her stomach. She fell backward, her back slamming into a tree.
"You're weak," Tenten heard him say as he hid in foliage, "You're letting your emotions get the better of you. And you want to be as great as Tsunade," he snorted, "How can you be as great as her when you can't even beat me? Let's face it. You're weak."
In anger, she threw kunai at his voice.
"That was close," he said, dodging her attacks as he ran out for her to see him, "But it wasn't direct...Your eyebrows are furrowed. Am I making you angry, Tenten?"
She took a swing at him and he ducked.
"I'll take that as a, 'yes,'" said Neji, "At least you're a bit more focused now."
He dodged another attack.
"You're still weak though," he continued.
Tenten let out a yell of frustration as she slammed his back to a tree. Secretly she knew he had let her do so. Luckily, he wasn't using his Byukagan this training session.
"I," she grunted as she threw her fist into his stomach, "Am," another punch hit him, "Not," a more forceful punch hit his gut, "Weak!"
She spiral kicked him, and he winced a little in pain as he fell to the ground. Quickly he stood and smirked.
"Now, I'll ask you again. Will you tell me what's on your mind?" he asked her, forming a position to fight.
"Nothing is on my mind," she said, panting, "Nothing."
"You're lying again."
She felt him slam his leg into her stomach and her back hit a tree. She fell down on the ground, coughing up a bit of blood on the green grass.
Once again, her sight was blurring and she shook her head, trying to get it back. Slowly it was working. What was wrong with her?
"Tenten," Neji sighed, "If you're not going to take this training seriously, then we're finished for the day- in fact, we're finished until you can tell me what the heck is on your mind."
She looked up at him and smirked.
"Then we're never going to train again," said Tenten.
Neji sighed.
"Look," she said, slowly getting up and walking towards him, "It's not that I don't want to tell you. It's that I can't tell you."
He tilted his head.
"And why not?" asked Neji, "You don't trust me?"
"Would I be out here on our training grounds alone with someone I don't trust?" Tenten answered, "It's just…confusing matters more for me to tell you…"
"Emotions in the mix as well? They always cause a bit of mayhem now and again."
"Yeah. My emotions are a big part of the issue."
"…Tenten, do you love someone?"
She smirked and laughed.
"Me?" Tenten cackled, "In love? Where would you get such a ridiculous, preposterous…"
She trailed off as Neji stared at her exasperatedly.
"…Yeah," Tenten said, slowly, "I do."
"I'll leave it at that," Neji said, "It's clear you don't want to talk about it."
Tenten blinked twice and smiled.
"But," he continued, "If it messes with your focus again, I'll be forced to torture you until no end."
Tenten snorted.
"With what?" she asked, placing her hand on her hip stubbornly, "You know hardly anything gets on my nerves unless it's some punk saying that women are inferior to men."
Neji smirked and looked behind her, letting her know that someone was there.
Tenten's eyes widened in horror as she realized what he meant.
"You wouldn't," she said, taking a step back.
"Oh, I would," he responded, having a malicious look in his eye, "If it affects your training, I'll make Gai-sensei and Lee talk about your 'flower of youth' and how you're their 'growing blossom' every single day for the rest of your life."
"Hello friends!" cried a cheerful voice. Tenten felt hands wrap around her in a hug. "How has your training been going?"
"Good," Neji replied, "Lee, you're suffocating Tenten again…"
Lee looked to the kunoichi in his arms who was indeed turning blue from lack of oxygen. He instantly let go.
"I am so sorry, my blooming flower of beauty!" he cried, "Is your youth alright?"
"Blooming flower of beauty?" Tenten growled.
"Well of course!" Lee said, "It means that you're a flower-bud going to become beautiful any day now!"
The next thing he knew, Tenten's hands were wrapped around his neck.
"You mean to say," she growled, "That I'm not beautiful now? ARE YOU CALLING ME UGLY?"
Neji stared in amusement as Lee began to turn red from not having air.
"N-No!" he cried as Tenten's grip tightened, "I-I meant…that y-your beautifulness can only become greater a-and it will reach its peak soon a-and-"
She let him fall to the ground and forcefully smiled.
"Good," said Tenten, "That's what I thought you meant."
"Good morning my youthful students!" a cheerier voice cried out.
Lee gasped and his eyes sparkled as he turned around to look at his teacher.
"Gai-sensei!" he screamed, embracing the man in a tight hug.
"Lee!" returned the teacher.
"GAI-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
"GAI-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
An explosion of sparkles and fireworks appeared behind them. As usual, they defied all the laws of nature and had an ocean with the sunset become their background.
Tenten and Neji sweat dropped.
How the heck do they do that? Both of them thought.
"Now then," Gai said, breaking the moment with Lee, "Five laps around Konoha and- Tenten, are you alright?"
Her eyelids were fluttering open and shut as she swayed unsteadily on her feet.
"Y-Yes," she said, shaking her head, "I'm fine."
"It's alright if your frail and delicate body needs rest," said Lee, nodding, "I hear that it's good for a weak woman to rest for a while."
She pressed a kunai to his throat and slammed him up against a tree. Her eyes were glaring daggers at him.
"I'm not weak," Tenten growled.
She slowly released him and clutched her head for a few moments. Tenten's world was spinning.
"You are right now," Neji said looking at her with a bit of concern etched on his face, "Maybe we took it too far with the warm up. Are you up to training today?"
"Yes," she said, beginning to run in the direction of the village, "I'm fine. Let's just train. Come on! I'll beat you all!"
Lee and Gai looked at each other, shaking their heads in worry. Neji stared after her as she ran.
He saw her right foot hit the ground and knew what was coming. Her leg crumpled underneath her and she fell downward. Her hands reached out to a nearby tree and she caught herself.
Tenten's vision went in and out, but unlike the other times, she lost to it. Her world went black and she collapsed from exhaustion.
Lee ran quickly to her side and caught her before she hit the ground. Neji, who couldn't run as fast, suppressed his jealousy when he saw Tenten in bushy-brow's arms.
"Tenten!" Lee cried, "Tenten, can you hear me?"
"Get…off…of…me," she growled, opening her eyes, "I…am…fine."
"Oh, rest your delicate youthful body, Tenten!" he shouted, hugging her as he knelt down and held her closely.
Tenten would have punched his lights out, but sadly, she was in no condition to do so.
"We should get her to a hospital," Neji said, concern flashing across his face. "She's clearly exhausted."
"She's fine," Tenten hissed, talking about herself in third person, "Unlike idiotic losers, she doesn't give up training for rest. She isn't going to stop her beliefs anytime soon."
"Fine," Gai said, sighing, "But you are sitting out during our training session."
"WHAT?" Tenten screamed, causing Lee to flinch from her shrill voice and drop her.
Before she could hit the ground, Neji caught her in his arms and inwardly smirked.
Take that, you stupid Lee, he thought.
Tenten gripped Neji's shoulder and detached herself from him (much to his inner disappointment). Slowly, she stood, Neji ready to grasp her waist if she collapsed again. She swayed to the right and left but stood nonetheless.
"I…am…not…sitting…out," she seethed, "You can't make me."
"GIVE ME BACK MY WEAPONS!" she screamed, tied to a tree with nothing to cut the rope with. "GIVE THEM BACK, NOW!"
Neji and Lee had been training in the dark for the past few hours while Gai stood in the sidelines observing with Tenten. Her sensei had cleverly hidden all of her weapons in the forest, so she couldn't use her chakra strings to help her escape the rope that bound her to a tree.
"I CURSE YOU ALL!" she yelled, "TAKING MY WEAPONS AWAY IS CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT!"
"It's not punishment," Gai chuckled, "We just don't want you to hurt yourself trying to train!"
"So you think I'm weak," Tenten said, bluntly and clearly annoyed.
"No," Gai said, laughing, "We don't think that."
Tenten just turned her head away mumbling curses and swears. Neji eyed Tenten and Lee took this as a chance to hit him.
With his Byukagan activated, Neji easily dodged it.
"You are distracted," Lee said, repeating Neji's words to Tenten not so long ago, "What is on your mind, my youthful friend?"
"Hn," he grunted, taking a swing at his sparring partner. His eyes flashed towards Tenten who was struggling against the rope's grasp on her body.
"Ah," Lee replied, grinning somewhat, "Interested in our flower? That's understandable."
Tenten groaned, squirming against the tree. Neji held back a shudder from becoming slightly aroused as he ducked a blow from Lee.
"Don't feel guilty, Neji," said he, "You had to tie her up. Gai-sensei and I couldn't even touch her with all of her weapons coming out at once. Do not worry. When we are older, she shall forgive you! Love will come over her and she will embrace-"
"HYUUGA NEJI!" screamed Tenten; her face red from anger, "CURSE YOU TO-" Gai slapped a hand over her mouth as she screamed the curse word. Once she was done, he released his grasp. "I HATE YOUR GUTS! YOU ARE SO DEAD! WHEN I'M THROUGH WITH YOU, YOU'LL BE BLEEDING AND-" Gai threw his hand over her mouth once more. She stopped shouting for a few moments and glared reproachfully. He slowly let go and regretted it instantly. "I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU, HYUUGA NEJI! IT WAS BAD ENOUGH TO TIE ME TO THIS TREE, BUT DID YOU STOP THERE? NO! YOU HAD TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE ALL OF MY WEAPONS FROM ME! $$$$ YOU, HYUUGA NEJI!"
"Yeah," Neji said sarcastically to bushy brows, "She's really going to forgive me."
Gai looked at his female student with very, very wide eyes and shook his head from daze.
"Our flower," he cried, a tear coming from his right eye, "Our flower! Our once innocent flower, tainted by these wretched words! OH CURSE THE ONE WHO HAS DONE THIS TO HER!"
He fell to the ground, sobbing and crying, shaking his head.
Tenten rolled her eyes and sighed.
"Well," she said, smiling brightly, "It made me feel a whole lot better!"
"Try apologizing to her," Lee said, jumping and dodging Neji's blows, "It might work!"
"Hn," he replied, his pride telling him not to do such a silly thing.
"You could confess your youthful love!"
"What?" snapped Neji, halting his attacks for a second.
"Well, yeah," Lee said, stopping as well and tapping his chin in thought, "It'll hit her soft spot and you two would be together. Plus you wouldn't have to run in fear from her every single day."
Neji attacked him and Lee dodged it quickly. They positioned themselves to fight again and went at it.
"…Love isn't necessary," said Neji, "And even if I had feelings for her- which I don't- then it'd be considered too has already told me that she loves someone. Therefore, it is utterly useless to engage matters of the heart with her."
"Did she say who it was?"
"No."
Lee kept himself from jumping up and down from joy.
"Do you know what this means?" he asked, "It means our beautiful flower is madly in love with someone."
"Yes," said Neji, annoyed, "She's already made that point clear."
"She didn't say who," said Lee, grinning widely, "Had it been anyone other than that someone, Tenten would have told us instantly, right?"
"Unless she was embarrassed about it," Neji shot back, missing Lee with a punch.
"Tenten is strong-willed and doesn't care what others say about her," said he, "So why would her youthful spirit be embarrassed?"
"Hn," Neji hummed, "Then there is a reason she didn't tell me. But what is the reason?"
"And that, my youthful friend is what you must figure out."
"ALRIGHT!" yelled Gai, coming back to his senses after Tenten's cursing spree, "TRAINING IS OVER!"
Lee ran over to his sensei and hugged him.
"LEE!" cried Gai.
"GAI-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
"GAI-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
"GAI-SENSEI!"
They began to walk away, hand in hand, ignoring the fact that Tenten was tied to a tree.
"LEE!" shouted Gai, his voice fading as they got farther away.
"GAI-SENSEI!"
"LEE…"
"GAI-SENSEI…"
"LEE…"
"GAI-SENSEI…"
"WHAT ABOUT ME?" yelled Tenten, struggling against the rope, "GET BACK HERE! WHO THE HECK IS GOING TO UNTIE ME? HELLO? COME ON! GET BACK HERE!"
They ignored her pleas and ran off into a sunset, holding hands (once again, they defied the laws of nature. Keep in mind it was nearly midnight. )
"Hold still," Neji said coming to her side.
"You," hissed she, "You're the evil one who tied me up."
"Yes," he replied, whipping out a kunai, "I am. Tenten, stop squirming."
"No," said Tenten, quickly. "I can break away on my own."
Neji approached her. His concerned eyes turned to anger.
"You're being illogical," said he, folding his arms- oh boy, here came his pride again, "Let me untie you."
"I don't need your help," Tenten said, "Now, if you'll excuse me…"
"No," said Neji, "I'll set you free and-"
"How about I do this," she said, kicking him straight in the shins, and he backed away, wincing. "And you leave me alone. I do not need your chivalry."
Tenten saw Neji giving up on her, and backing down. She held my head a bit higher.
"If you want to escape on your own, fine," said he, continuing to back up until he plopped down near a tree, "But I'm staying here to watch. This ought to be interesting."
Tenten rolled her eyes. This was just great.
"What is this?" asked Neji, sarcastically, "About the fifth time you've tried scraping your heel against the bark of the tree?"
Tenten rolled her eyes. Obviously, it had been quite a while.
"Do you have any brilliant suggestions?" she asked, sending a glare his way.
He smirked.
"I thought you would never ask," said he, approaching her.
His hand whipped out a kunai; ready to cut away her binds.
"No," Tenten growled, "I can do this on my own."
Neji held back a yell of frustration and put the kunai knife away. He stood there and just waited.
She sighed. Her plans were failing. Swallowing all of her self-dignity, she said, "Fine. Do what you want."
Neji smirked at her, and paused for a moment.
"On second thought," he said, "I'll just leave you tied to the tree."
"Neji!" yelled Tenten, struggling harder, "Ugh, what the heck did you do to these ropes?"
"Chakra powered," he said, simply, "I gave a little bit of it to the rope. That's why those simple jutsus you tried didn't work on it. You're a kunoichi. You should have known. Tenten, I would have thought you'd have figured that out by now."
"Come on," she replied, rolling her eyes, "You're Hyuuga Neji. You're unpredictable."
"Ah," Neji said, grinning, "But by being unpredictable as you predicted, I am predictable by being unpredictable."
Tenten narrowed her eyes at him.
"I can't argue with that logic," she said, sighing and leaning against the tree a bit more. "So, are you going to untie me?"
"Not yet," said Neji, taking a step closer, "Let's talk."
"Couldn't we talk when I'm not tied to a tree?" Tenten asked, fuming with annoyance.
Neji folded his arms, and gave her the stare. Oh no, not just a stare, but the stare. The one where he narrows his eyes slightly and bends his head as if ready to rule the world- or as if he already owns it. It was the stare that always made her ready to do whatever the white-eyed prodigy asked of her. No one else could pull off the stare. Neji was the only one who could do it right and make Tenten ready to gravel at his feet if he wanted. Yes it was that stare. But oh, how Tenten loathed the stare.
"Don't give me that stare!" she shrieked, her nails digging into the bark as though wanting to disappear into the tree itself.
"What stare?" Neji asked smirking as his 'power' stare became more vicious.
Tenten screamed and shook her head in fear.
"Alright!" she cried, "I give in! Just don't do the stare again!"
Neji's narrowed eyes returned to normal but his arms were still folded. He sighed and rubbed his temples slightly.
"What is it that you want to talk about?" Tenten asked, leaning her head against the bark, ready for a long, long talk from the 'all mighty' Hyuuga prodigy.
"You nearly fainted today," he said, getting straight to the point, "Why?"
"I didn't get enough sleep last night," Tenten replied, telling part of the truth.
"You're lying," said he, shaking his head.
"Am I?" she asked, challenging him, "If you're so sure that I'm lying, why aren't you using your Byukagan to look inside of my head?"
Hide the thoughts of him, Tenten thought quickly, Quickly, before he uses Byukagan on us! Think of anything but him.
"I could," he said, amused, "But I'd rather not invade your mind and lose your trust. A team must be built on reliance and if I endanger that, we will be weak. Now Tenten, why did you nearly faint today?"
"Why are you so concerned?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"It affects our team," Neji said, "If one is weak, the whole team is weak. You're dodging the question."
"I told you. I didn't get a good night's rest."
"And why is that?"
"…I had things on my mind."
"What types of things?"
"Personal things," she said, avoiding his gaze.
"Tenten."
"…"
"Silence is my thing," Neji growled, "So do yours and talk."
"…"
"I guess I'll have to do Byukagan after all…"
Panic attacked Tenten and she looked him in the eyes. He gazed back with an icy cold stare.
"Alright," she said, sighing, "I'll talk, but those personal things? Do not try to pester me about them, got it?"
"Hn."
"I was only half telling the truth when I said I didn't sleep last night. The honest truth is…I haven't slept at all for a while. I've had only a handful of hours of sleep in the past three weeks."
"Why didn't you tell anyone about this?" he asked her, his eyes having a hint of concern before disappearing beneath the white.
"I didn't want anyone to worry about me," she replied.
"What about your friends? They must have heard something from you."
"You and Lee are my closest friends," Tenten said, "I didn't want anyone to worry, although I did talk to Sakura a little yesterday."
"About?"
"I told you, 'no pestering the personal stuff.'"
"Ah… Has there been a lot on your mind?"
"Yeah."
"Anything you'd like to talk about?"
"Not really…"
"Trust works both ways, Tenten," Neji said.
"…Oh, alright. But I'm only telling you the basics- no names, and you have to untie me from this tree."
"…Fine."
He stared at Tenten for a second, and then came close to her. Neji approached her with caution and a kunai flicked out into his wrist.
In one swipe, he cut away the ropes.
"Talk."
"Do you know why I love astronomy?" Tenten asked, lying in an open field.
Her hands were under her head, relaxed. Tenten gazed up at the night sky, the stars reflected in her brown eyes. She smiled lightly.
Neji simply stared at her, his own hands resting on his stomach. He seemed slightly uncomfortable but just barely. He was not used to lying in an open field at midnight.
"It's because there are so many of them," she explained, "…So many stars. Each one tries to beat the other, shining brightly and competing to gain the watcher's attention. But there's one special star that shines the brightest and shoves it in their faces without even realizing it."
Neji tilted his head to look at her, waiting for her to continue.
"It's the sun, Neji," she whispered, "The sun is the star that is different. It is unique and alone but it is beyond compare. Its beauty is so bright that it lights up the world. When it comes, others disappear and all people can see is that one star."
What this had to do with Tenten's issue was unbeknownst to Neji.
"It's like love, Neji," she continued, nodding, "Others try to show me that I'm the perfect wife for them and yet when I nearly give up hope on finding love, the sun rises and makes the competition disappear. Astronomy is like love."
Neji remained silent, looking at her moonlight caressed face.
"I talked to Sakura about it, as I told you," Tenten said, "She says that she is confused about her feelings for Sasuke. He did betray our village, after all, but she still loves him. I asked her what it felt like- being in love. She gave me some sappy romance crud that I highly doubt is real."
"Hn," Neji hummed.
"But the more I thought about what I felt for y- the guy I like, the less I could sleep. He roamed my mind and wouldn't leave. I didn't know what to do to get him out. I still don't."
Tenten chuckled and shook her head, crossing her legs and sitting up in an Indian style.
"So, sleepless minutes turned into sleepless hours that turned into restless days that turned into restless weeks," she continued, "All the while, I thought about him. And that's when I realized that love is like astronomy and morning. When the stars disappear you only have eyes for the sun."
"Interesting," he mused.
"Neji," Tenten said, looking into his white eyes, "I nearly collapsed today from exhaustion. If I hold my emotions in any longer, then I won't be able to prevent myself from fainting anymore. I'm going to have to tell him soon."
"You're going to tell this…man that you love him," he said, trying to remain monotonous throughout that sentence, "Is he worthy? Will he hurt you in any way?"
Tenten smirked.
"Concerned?" she asked.
"I'm just-"
"Worried about the team," Tenten cut him off, "I know. But yes, he is worthy. And I don't think he will hurt me- at least not physically. If he denies his feelings, then I'll be hurt emotionally."
"I see. How long have you known him?"
"Since I was a genin."
"Hn, that's a long time."
"Yeah, he and I grew close over the years. Well, I know I grew close to him. He's a guy, he doesn't really like to show his feelings."
"…Is he from Konoha?"
"Yeah."
"Our age?"
"About."
"Is he good to you?"
"Yeah."
"Do I know him?"
"You know him very well."
"…Lee?"
"What about him?"
"…Never mind…"
"…Wait! You think I like Lee?"
"…"
"HOLY $H!T! NO WAY DO I LIKE HIM! OH MAN! UGH! He's like my brother! Ew…I need to throw up…"
"…What about Naruto?"
"Your cousin is infatuated with him. If I even did like Naruto- I'M NOT SAYING I DO- Hinata would beat me up into a pulp."
"…Sasuke?"
"He's Sakura's."
"…Shikamaru?"
"Ino's."
"Gai?"
"…No. That's just disgusting."
"Choji?"
"I don't go for fat guys."
"I'm not going to take forever to guess. When you get together with him, show me who he is."
"No way," Tenten said, protesting, "You're going to freak him out! You'll do that 'creepy stare' thing you do- YOU'RE DOING IT AGAIN!"
Neji smirked and looked back at the sky.
Tenten rolled her eyes.
"Who is he?"
"No, I told you: no specifics."
"Tenten."
"No."
"Tenten."
"No."
"…"
"No."
"…"
"No."
"…"
"NO."
"If he hurts you, it'll hurt the team. I can't risk that happening. Tell me who he is or I swear I'll-"
"No."
"…Rip out your spine and use it to help brush those shiny teeth of Gai and Lee. Then, I'll-"
"No."
"…use Byukagan to find out who he is and-"
"NO."
"…search your mind, find out your greatest fears and use them against you. Lastly, I'll-"
"Neji!" Tenten yelled, "No! I'm not going to tell you yet."
"…"
"Well?"
"…"
"Neji?"
"…"
"Neji?"
"…."
"..."
"…"
"…"
"…"
"Well? Are you going to say anything?"
"…Hn."
"Of course…"
"Train with me."
"At this hour?"
"Train with me."
"What? That's all you say after our little 'bonding moment' of friendship?"
"Train. With. Me. Please."
"Oh yeah," she said, sarcastically, "That makes a world of difference."
"If you won't talk, then we'll fight. Train with me."
"…Fine."
Getting up from the ground, they both took their positions. Tenten threw sharp weaponry at Neji, and they began their usual practice. A few minutes later, after many cuts and bruises, they fought their way back to their training grounds.
Unlike other times, Neji backed up against a tree, giving Tenten the advantage. She swiped at him, but missed and made a mark across the tree. He dodged two other blows before moving onto a different tree. He stood in front of it and moved out of the way for a few attacks. She hit the tree four times, and he moved onto the third and final tree. This time, when she tried to stab him, he grasped her hand and shoved the kunai along the bark, making one curved mark.
Smirking, Neji had her back slammed against a fourth tree. She was defenseless as she struggled against him.
"Come on," Tenten said, groaning, "Let go. You won this round."
"My goal wasn't to win," he hissed, "Look at the trees, Tenten."
She did so, and nearly fainted from surprise.
On the three trees she had tried to attack him, were the markings of "I love you." Instead of the word, "love" there was a heart. Instead of the word "you" there was the letter, "U." So therefore, it looked like: "I… 3…U."
"…Neji?" Tenten asked, unsurely, "…Why is that there?"
"Hn."
His lips came crashing down onto hers, and she didn't know how to react. Shock swallowed her thoughts completely. Tenten's jaw dropped slightly and Neji's tongue worked its way in. She groaned from pleasure and let his hands press her body against the tree. She couldn't escape even if she wanted to.
Neji broke away and looked her in the eye.
"I don't care who you think you're in love with," he said, glaring at her, "You're mine. Do you understand?"
Tenten was about to protest when he slammed himself onto her lips. His tongue worked its way in again and Tenten blinked back surprise. She rolled her eyes sarcastically and shut them instantly. She began to kiss back until Neji broke away again.
"Tell me the guy's name," he demanded, "And I'll murder him."
"Neji," she said, laughing, "For a prodigy, you sure are an idiot."
He narrowed his eyes and crushed her lips with his. Oh dang, this felt good to Tenten. He broke away again.
"Tell me," he hissed, seething in jealousy.
"It's you!" she shrieked before he could say another word. "It's always been you! You're the sun, Neji! You stand out more than any of the other stars. You're my star and I love you for it."
He smirked and backed away.
"Good," said Neji, brushing off invisible dust from his shoulders, "Then I suggest you get to sleep. I'll let Gai-sensei know that you've had difficulties sleeping over the past few weeks and I'm sure he'll be lenient. After all, you are his 'blooming flower of youth.' If you wake up for training in the morning and show up, I'll personally see to it that you are tied to a tree like today. If you ever have problems with sleeping again due to confused feelings for 'that guy,' tell me. Got it?"
Tenten rolled her eyes and smirked.
"Sure."
"Hn."
He kissed her once again and walked off, emotionless and apathetic as usual. Tenten shook her head as she watched him walk away.
"If this is a dream," she muttered to herself, "I never want to wake up. Neji, wait up! My weapons are still in the forest! Come on! This isn't funny! Give me back my weaponry!"
She ran off, laughing as she accidentally collapsed from exhaustion. He caught her and carried her to his home that night, wanting to make sure she was alright.
"Oh that was beautiful, Gai-sensei!" Lee cried from a nearby bush in the training area, "It was such a wonderful display of youthful youth!"
"Yes it was, Lee," Gai said, coming out from behind a tree and doing a "good guy" pose. "I'm glad we watched the whole thing from behind these plants and rocks! I'm also glad we got all of Neji and Tenten's friends to come watch with us!"
The sound of Naruto's laughter came from a rock.
"That was priceless!" he cackled, "Hinata, did you see all of that?"
"Y-Yes N-Naruto-kun," she stuttered, walking out from the rock with him.
"It was troublesome," muttered Shikamaru, hopping down from a tree with Ino on his back.
"No, it was sweet!" she yelled, "Why don't we ever do anything like that?"
Shikamaru ignored her comment.
"Say," Naruto said, scratching the back of his head, "Where's Sasuke-teme and Sakura?"
"O-Oh," Hinata said, blushing, "I-I believe that they are…alone in his home…doing…well…"
Her blush deepened and she pressed her fingers together.
Lee's eyes widened in horror and he screamed.
"SAKURA!" he yelled, "MY LOVE! NO!"
He ran off to Sasuke's place with Gai following him, screaming about such and such nonsense based on youth.
And so, they all lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER- except Lee who died from heartache.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE UNSURE THIS IS THE END. FIN, DNE EHT, THIS STORY IS CONCLUDED.
