Jen crawled through the hole after her brother. "You know, we're probably gonna be as sore as hell tomorrow morning" she groaned after she slid fully out, then helped Abigail yank Riley through the hole.
"God what I wouldn't give to be a hundred pounds right now" Riley complained.
Everyone rolled their eyes and looked away.
Jen approached one of the walls. "We're only three rooms away now" she muttered.
Ben nodded and turned to everyone, even if they had all heard her. "Alright guys, three more rooms to go until we hit the chamber."
"Good. I'm getting tired" Riley panted.
"Breathe, man, breathe!" Jen said, shaking him.
"I am. Ow" Riley whined, gripping his arms after she let goof him.
"I barely touched you!" Jen argued.
"Then you don't know your own strength!"
"Yeah right. Whatever, Ri. Keep it on movin" Jen replied.
"Right. Jen. There are more hieroglyphics there. Wanna double check em? The next room looks clear"
"Yeah Sure I got it" Jen nodded, letting Riley and Abigail pass. She started reading them. After a while that It was only the history of the person entombed in the chamber.
"You know, that's not very helpful, is it?"
Jen nodded her head no. "No it isn't-" her eyes went wide, then she whirled around as they narrowed again. "Mike… Shaw" she growled.
"Allo poppet" Shaw grinned.
Mike turned to him. "Take care of her brother, Poole and the girl. This one's my job"
Shaw nodded and brushed past Jen, who was still glaring at Mike.
Mike sneered at her. "Long time no see, girlie."
"Shut up" Jen growled, reaching for the gun, but then she remembered something. Ian had put the magazine on the counter. The idiot forgot to load the gun. Now I'm gonna be dead thanks to a dead guy. She backed up, then felt the scimitar on the wall. Geez, they really do pick the worst places for these. She picked it up as Mike picked one up closer to him.
"You really think you can beat me with one of these?" Mike asked. "I've been trained with them, you know"
"Cut the crap I don't give" Jen growled.
"Oh, I know you don't, but… it's always nice to hear the background of the person that's about to kill you, isn't it?"
"Hm. The name's Jennifer Gates. I'm thirty-four. I've studied Egypt since I was thirteen and I've trained with scimitars since I was ten. As for your question, let me know after I kill you"
Mike smirked, extending the blade. "Well met"
"You wish" Jen growled.
Mike smiled. "You know, the irony. I heard you guys talking about that time back in high school. I remember when my friends and I were making fun of you, then got beaten up by Ian. Hm, too bad he's not here… or your brother, now, you're all alone for this fight"
Jen's grip tightened on the scimitar.
Mike charged at her, blade out and ready.
Jen parried it and lunged at him, missing.
"Aim is horrible." Mike said.
"So is your critiquing" Jen replied, kicking the blades out from the snag they were in.
"You just made a bloody mistake" Mike smirked, swinging the sword.
"So did you" Jen yelled, ducking under the swing.
Mike grunted when the sword hit the pillar and got stuck.
Jen kicked him, sending him flying against the wall.
Mike smirked. "Now I feel like poor little Ian and you're Shaw" he said getting up and spitting blood out of his mouth.
"How does it feel being at the other end, huh?" Jen asked.
"Pretty good" Mike smirked.
Jen hid the alarm in her face. That was never a good statement.
Mike grabbed a spear that was on the wall and swung it at her. She jumped back only it was against the wall, getting disarmed as the wind was temporarily knocked out of her.
She grunted.
Mike picked up her scimitar and smiled, walking over to her. "Killed by your own blade. That must suck" Mike smirked.
Jen glared at him, then winced, waiting for the final blow that would finish her off, but when she expected a sword to come in contact with her side, a small amount of wind did. She blinked, opening her eyes to see the sword, only about an inch from her side, Mike looking absolutely stunned.
"That's not very nice"
Jen looked in the direction of the voice and nearly died of shock instead of being stabbed. "IAN?"
"Impossible! Shaw killed you!" Mike snapped.
Ian smirked. "Correction. TRIED to kill me"
Mike glared at him.
"Oh come ON you stupid bastard! I've known Shaw for four years. You really think I'd be dumb enough not to learn how to withstand his fighting ability?"
"SHUT UP!" Mike yelled, ripping his arm free of Ian's grip.
"Or we can just kill you" Jen said.
"That works" Ian nodded, grabbing the spear that Mike had had seconds before and plunging it into Mike's gut as Jen did the same with his scimitar.
Jen stood there, ready to faint. "Holy crap I just killed someone" she whimpered. "I just killed someone… I just killed someone…. HOLY CRAP I KILLED SOMEONE!"
"Jen! Inhale! Exhale!"
Jen stared at Ian. "How the heck are you…"
"Don't ask…"
"And you…"
"Uh huh"
"And you aren't acting? Shaw really did beat the crud out of you?" it was now she noticed the leather jacket was now totally ripped up as well as his shirt, huge bruises were visible on his stomach. Forgetting about this the next moment, she poked his shoulder, slightly hard.
"Ow!" Ian complained, rubbing his arm briefly, then raised an eyebrow at her.
Jen just smiled, not believing he was actually in front of her.
Ian tilted his head slightly when he noticed she was just looking at him for what seemed like an eternity. "Jen are you alr-"he was cut off when she yanked him forward and kissed him hard on the lips. He was surprised for a moment, but bounced back quickly, looping one arm around her waist and bringing the other to the back of her neck, deepening the kiss.
The to just stayed like that for a while until they heard Ben and Abigail in the next room over growling something that sounded a bit too much like Shaw. Then again, it probably was since he was still somewhere in the tomb.
Ian broke off from her, getting an idea, but then looked down at Jen with a serious expression. "Do you trust me, Jen?"
"What?"
"Do you trust me?" Ian repeated.
"Yes, Ian, but why are you even asking?"
"Because I bloody love you, Jen, and I want to know you trust me because of what I'm about to do"
"What are you about to do Ian? What's wrong with you?"
"This" Ian replied, grabbing her arm and dragging her into the room, whipping out a gun out of nowhere and pressing it to her hip.
"Oh god!" Jen yelped.
Ian looked from Ben to Riley to Shaw. "Job well done Shaw. Mike would've been proud of you if this one hadn't killed him"
"Whoa! Ian you're-" Riley began but Ian silenced him with a glare.
"Whoa! Ian hold up if you hadn't been there-"
Ian covered her mouth so the last part of her statement was muffled. He continued with Shaw. " I know I am. Hm. I'm surprised both of you Gates actually trusted me," Ian said, looking from Jen to Ben.
"Ian- what the-" the siblings started.
"Shut up" Ian barked.
Ian turned back to Ben. "Well Ben, how does it feel? Hm? Being double-crossed three times in a row by me? Hm? Twice in a week?" he asked.
Ben just stared at him, then scowled. "You double crossing bastard!"
Ian smiled. "Why thank you. I think that name fits quite well. I've learned three things from this whole experience… that the Gates family are way to daft to be in league with, that Shaw has a bad right hook even when it comes to acting, and that even Shaw sucks more than you do, Ben, at bluffing"
"What?" both Ben and Shaw asked.
"Jen. I'm sorry if this hurts. And as for you two, I knew I was always the better bluff in this group" he let his finger slide to the trigger and he pulled it.
Jen let out a scream when the gun went off and she was jerked backward.
"JEN!" Ben yelled, running forward.
Jen opened one eye when she didn't feel anything enter her body and came face to face with black leather. The leather of Ian's jacket. She looked up at him who was looking down at her, his arm around her and holding her tight to his chest. "Ian?" she asked.
"You alrigh'?" Ian asked.
"I will be when you tell me WHAT THE HELL YOU JUST DID!" Jen yelled.
"See for yourself" Ian shrugged, nodding in front of them. Shaw was gripping his leg, which had a large red bloodstain forming on his leg.
"You shot Shaw!" Jen exclaimed.
"Yes I did. I told you to trust me," Ian said.
"Whoa. What just happened?" Ben demanded, looking at Shaw.
Ian tossed him the gun. "I just preformed the bluff of the year, that's what" Ian replied.
Ben let his jaw hang open, and then he started laughing. "You double DOUBLE crossing bastard!" he exclaimed with a smile.
"I like that name even more… now" he went over to Shaw and kicked him in the stomach then ribs. "How do you like it?" he asked. He turned back to Ben, Jen, Abigail and Riley. "What to you say to getting out of here?"
"And just leave Shaw here?" Ben asked.
Ian turned to Shaw. "Hmm…"
"Are you going to make the same mistake twice, Ian?" Ben asked.
"Am I going to help the man that tried to kill us? As much as saving a life is an honor… it's just not cutting it"
Ben shrugged. "Wow. I didn't think of it like that. Now I feel like you when you left us before… it feels right yet there's something in the back of your head that tells you it's wrong…"
Ian turned to Jen. "How much of our conversation did you tell them?"
"All of it?"
Ian smiled before wrapping his arms around her and kissing her.
"Oh c'mon!" Riley said, turning around, disgusted.
Ben smiled at Abigail. "It looks like they have the right idea," he said, pulling her close to him.
Riley groaned then started banging his head against the wall. "Too… much… love" he said with each bang.
Riley looked around the car at everyone. Ben had a stupid grin plastered to his face, Abigail was just staring ahead, and Ian and Jen were in a lover's embrace, his head on her chest as she stroked his hair gently. Riley rolled his eyes. "Once again, you guys stink. You guys can just sell this stuff and make mil- no, BILLIONS, and you just want to sell some of it and keep the rest for MEMORY? You guys are insane. And The Mummy-ish again, but what I have to say is: We come back empty handed… again"
"I wouldn't say that" Jen said, looking down at Ian before kissing him on the lips.
"Oh please" Riley said with a fake, over-dramatic British accent, rolling his eyes and looking away. He looked in front of him in his lap at a lizard that Ben had captured and put in a basket and was now bringing home with them for some reason, god knows how. "How about you, baby, a little kissy?"
The lizard opened its mouth and practically growled.
Riley looked into its mouth, disgusted at all the slime that was in it. "Ugh!" he winced, looking away, and then smiled to himself. You know what, all in all, this trip was pretty good after all.
