Disclaimer: No matter how hard I wish, I will never own InuYasha. Ok. So I'm not too sure where exactly I'm going with this, but here goes!
Kagome awoke to find herself staring up into a clear, blue sky. This was strange because she went to sleep on the floor of Kaede's hut with Shippo curled up in her arms. She propped herself up on her elbows and took a look around.
The air was hazy. Like Kagome was seeing it through a filter of some sort. She sat all the way up and rubbed her eyes with her fists. The air still appeared smoky. "Where am I?" she wondered aloud.
"In your dream," said a voice.
Kagome jumped up. "Who said that? Where are you?" She searched the field around her, but all she could see was endless wildflowers. "I'm not dreaming!" she called again. Kagome pinched the skin on her forearm between her fingers. "Ouch! See that hurt! I'm not dreaming!" She rubbed her injured skin.
"Oh, but you are. You are just to naive to realize what's happened to you."
"What do you mean by that? Realize what?" Kagome yelled.
"Realize that you're dead."
Shippo awoke to the sound of birds. He took a deep breath and then exhaled. The air felt crisp and refreshing. He untangled himself from Kagome's arms and stood. He raised his arms in the air over his head to stretch and let out a big yawn. Shippo looked around the hut. He counted the sleeping forms. Everyone was still asleep. He went to wake Kagome.
"Momma?" he said softly, nudging her shoulder. When she didn't answer, he said louder, "Momma?" Shippo shook Kagome roughly. When this didn't stir her from her slumber, he shook her even harder. Her head lolled off the pillow. In what little light there was seeping through the walls of the hut, Shippo could see that Kagome's eyes were open.
But they were lifeless.
"NOOOO!" Shippo wailed, waking the others from their slumber. "NOOOO! Not my MOMMA!"
InuYasha burst through the door. "What?" he said harshly. "What's going on?"
Shippo turned to InuYasha and cried, "Make her wake up! Make her!"
"What?" InuYasha said, obviously confused.
Shippo just pointed and began to wail again. Sango picked him up and cuddled him.
"What?" InuYasha said again. He pushed past Miroku, who was standing over Kagome's sleeping form. "Kagome?" InuYasha said softly. He shook her. When she didn't respond, he called, "Kaede! Come now! Something's wrong with Kagome!"
InuYasha kept his eyes on Kagome, watching her for any signs of life. And she stared back at him with her dull, milky eyes.
"What do you mean 'dead'?" Kagome screamed. "I don't believe you! Why should I believe you? I don't even know who you are!"
There appeared before Kagome the tall, slender form of a woman. Her outline was fuzzy, but Kagome could tell she was wearing miko garb and had a bow slung over her shoulder.
"Kikyo?" Kagome asked. "Why are you here? And if I'm dead, and you're here, then is this Heaven or Hell?"
"This is your perception of the afterlife," Kikyo said, smugly. "It is whatever your subconscious mind desires. I don't want to be here any more than you do."
Kagome sat back down among the flowers, taking it all in. "So this is it? This is where I stay… forever?"
"Perhaps." Kikyo sat next to Kagome and stared off into the distance.
"Well, if you know so much then let me ask you this," Kagome said. She turned to face Kikyo. "How did I die?"
Ok. Please review and give me some suggestions and some feed back.
