I can't be too late.

Yusuke ran as fast as his legs would carry him. He passed by several street vendors, and nearly knocked down their merchandise. He didn't stop to apologize, though; he couldn't afford to waste precious time.

Please... I hope... I'm not... late...

His lungs were practically bursting, but he didn't dare rest. Curse his speed for not being lightning-fast like Hiei's. He panted heavily, comparative to that of a dog on a toasting summer day.

Sweat beaded on his forehead, trickling down the side of his face. He swerved to avoid crashing into a ten-year-old on his bike. Yusuke clenched his teeth, realizing how far the church was from the temple.

Just a little... little more...

No wonder Genkai-baasan had been very forceful in pushing - no, SHOVING - him out the door. So that's why she was so mad at me for arriving, Yusuke thought, jumping over an open manhole. She was merely concerned for my future... as well as rebuking my stupidity.

He rounded the corner, and finally found the building he ran across Tokyo for.

At last!

But then he stopped short.

From where he stood he saw two figures with their backs to him surrounded by well-wishers. Rice grains and flower petals rained upon the couple. The woman had long, auburn hair cascading just beneath her shoulders, and looking radiant in an elaborately designed white wedding dress. The woman threw back the bouquet of lilies she held in her hand, and Yusuke watched as the bridesmaids squealed and trampled over each other for the coveted prize. The man, tall and gallant-looking in a navy blue tuxedo suit, opened the door of the white limosine parked in front of the building and ushered his bride in. A "Just Married" banner hung limply from the bumper of the vehicle.

No...

Yusuke thought time had stood still. He had wanted time to stop, to take away the horror and pain he felt right then. But even all his combined youki could not help him out of this predicament.

It - it can't be!

The driver gunned the engine, and Yusuke heard the car speed away. More cheers from the group that was left reached his ears. He tightly gripped the edge of the brick wall of an abandoned warehouse. Pieces of it crumbled at his touch... pretty much like his heart, which was slowly deteriorating, as if it were doused by one liter of muriatic acid. He wished the ground would just open up and swallow him, or that the world would suddenly collapse on him - ANYTHING but to be in this situation.

I didn't... didn't make it. I'm too late.

Numbly, he found himself down on the dry cement. His mighty fist struck it, leaving on it a small crater. He was totally oblivious to the curious stares passers-by threw him. His back shook with sobs, as tears coursed freely down his cheeks.

Indeed, he paid dearly for his tardiness.

"Keiko... no."

The loss of his love.

Authors notes:

This story was up in years ago (as this was published online way back in 2000), and gathered quite a lot of reviews. I had to take it down in compliance with new policy this multichapter fic is intended as a lemon (i.e., with sexually explicit scenes), and I intended to rewrite those parts to suit the fic. I was one of the few people who campaigned for the Yusuke/Keiko romance when everyone else was into yaoi at a time when Yu Yu Hakusho (or Ghost Fighter in the Philippines) was rather popular in the Philippines. (For those of you who were old enough then, remember GMAs We Are Anim slogan? Well, I was in high school then and caught the craze. Incidentally, I was in love with Hiei as a character, but I couldnt write him. It was Yusuke who found his way into my fics it was easier to write him, I suppose, with Keiko around: I can write het romance fics better than yaoi, anyway. Besides, I actually like Keiko. I like the dynamic of their relationship and the subtleties of their romance throughout the show made it all the more real for me. Hey, excuse me for being mush.)

Well anyway, I never got around to doing this rewriting, because I realized if I were going to rewrite that portion of the fic, I might as well churn out an entirely different fic. Basically I saw the plotholes in this fanfiction and rather than edit everything, I thought it would be easier to just rewrite the whole thing, even if a different fic might come out. So I decided to just post the unedited version, and wait for the right time to rewrite an alternate universe version of Violation of the Sixth Commandment. (When that will happen, who knows? xD)

I was sixteen when I wrote this. Its kind of embarrassing to read this now that Im twenty-three twenty-six, but for the sake of archiving all my fics (since I quit ficcing years ago), Im posting it back up.

For archiving permission outside my site and you may contact me at varon _ 22 {AT} yahoo . com [remove spaces and braces].

Now proceed. :)
