Bathed in the faint sliver of the moon escaping the thick cover of the clouds, Yusuke and Keiko walked, hand in hand, back to Keiko's -- and Ben's -- house. They had been to The Hideaway, a seafood restaurant almost an hour's ride north of Tokyo (Keiko inwardly realized how fully appropriate the name was for their situation). Before the meal was over, Yusuke had presented her with a necklace: it was gorgeous, with a blue gem (no, it's not sapphire) set at the center of some sort of silver-like metal. Tiny stones surrounded the main jewel, and it was just beautiful that Keiko wouldn't have cared less if it were from another world.

Minutes later, though, the moonbeam slowly began to disappear, and Yusuke looked up. "Looks like it's going to rain any second."

No sooner had he said it, drops as big as five rice grains in a clump began to fall on the pavement. Some hit him squarely on the head.

Uh-oh. He looked at Keiko, an idea forming into his head. Grinning brazenly, he laughingly yelled, "Race you to your house!" He took off almost immediately.

Keiko was NOT game. "No fair, Yusuke no baka!" she called out, and tapped her foot. "I'm wearing stilletto heels here!!! Come back!"

No response. Even if he were that fast, she knew Yusuke had not gone far; a few hundred meters maybe? The idiot, she thought irritably. Where is he?

More minutes passed, and she was getting soaked. But still no Yusuke. She began walking; her house was still four blocks away from where she had stood, under a streetlight! The rain fell steadily, and Keiko shivered. C'mon, Yusuke, I just told you what a fun time I had!

"Boo!" someone suddenly sprang up behind her, strong arms enfolding her waist. Without warning Keiko found herself being lifted up, as Yusuke hooked an arm under her legs and the other arm slung around her shoulders for support.

"Baka!" she almost screamed at his widely smiling face. "Yusuke no baka!"

"Oh, c'mon, Keiko, sometimes you're really no fun." He pretended to pout, then whirled her around in a circle. "Don't you just love the rain? And besides, it was YOUR idea to take a walk."

He got her. Massaging her temples, Keiko just sighed impatiently. "OK, fine, just.. get me home, OK? And PLEASE stop twirling me around, I'm getting dizzy."

He chortled, stopping in mid-turn. "As you wish." But he didn't set her down. Yusuke, his eyes bright and his face flushed, was enough a sight to make Keiko giggle at the situation despite her biases against the rain. "I promise you, I'll get you home in about --" he comically glanced at his wrist, as if a watch were there -- "three minutes." Yusuke bent down, raising his head as if estimating the expanse of the sky. "Hang on," he cautioned.

Keiko now did laugh. "Sure, Yusuke, if you're as fast as Hi -- WHOA!"

He suddenly jumped up, his feet landing evenly on the tip of the lamppost. Keiko shrieked.

"YUSUKE!!!" she said, closing her eyes, burying her face on his chest. "What in the WORLD do you think you're doing?!?"

"Jumping... from... post to... post," he huffed in response, as he leapt again. He deliberately let his next landing wobble a little, just to scare the woman in his arms.

It worked. "YOU KNOW I'M AFRAID OF HEIGHTS!!!"

"So don't look, alright? It's much faster this way." Yusuke finally did one last jump, doing a little somersault in the air as his feet came in contact with solid ground.

"We're here," he formally announced.

Gingerly Keiko lifted her gaze. Indeed, they were at the back entrance to the Victorian-styled house, where no nosy neighbors were to notice them.

"Thankfully," she said. "We are SO drenched to the bone!"

Carefully Yusuke set her down. It continued to drizzle, the downpour seemingly getting stronger. "We'd better get inside," Keiko said, "if we don't want to catch pneumonia."

Keiko fumbled in her purse for her key, then left her wet shoes under the shed. Yusuke followed her example, noting that a puddle was forming on the floor as he stepped inside. Keiko led him down the hall into the den. She flipped on the light switch. "Listen, I'd get us some dry clothes upstairs... can you make a fire going here so we can warm ouselves?" She pointed to the stack of logs beside the brick hearth. "The wood's over there, and the matches are on the mantle."

"Sure," Yusuke said. "You've come to the expert." He entered the room, and did a double take. "HEY! Am I in a safari or what?"

A tiger's, moose's, and lion's stuffed heads hung high on the walls, above the fireplace. A bear's skin acted as a rug on the center of the floor. Rifles were stationed in one corner, snugly fitting into their varnished mahogany case. A couch draped with what looks like zebra skin sat opposite the hearthstone, and a small coffee table was in front of the couch. All together, the small room both provided a creepy yet cozy atmosphere.

It was a little weird... but wasn't this what he felt when he first settled into Makai?

She laughed coyly. "Ben likes to hunt. Do they bother you?"

He shook his head. "No, not really."

"It's better to ignore them. You'll get used to it." Keiko ducked out of the room. "Be right back," she called over her shoulder.

Once in her -- their, hers and Ben's -- bedroom, she stripped off her dress and threw it down the dirty hamper. Hhmm... what to wear, what to wear... After drying herself off, she settled for a light-blue button-down blouse, and her close-fitting denim skirt. For Yusuke she picked a striped polo shirt of Ben's and a pair gray trousers. She also grabbed an extra she was about to shut her closet doors she caught a glimpse of those woolen blankets she kept far away at the back and never used. On impulse she took them... Just in case.

The den was warm and bathed in a yellow-orange glow when she got there. A helathy fire was up and burning, the flames licking hungrily at the hickory wood which was used as fuel. "Hey, great fire you built," she complimented Yusuke as she reached him. He just grinned at her, pushing back some of the wet bangs off his eyes.

"Here," Keiko said, handing over the towel and dry clothes to him. "The bathroom's two doors to the left of the sink."

"Thanks." He headed out the room.

"Um..." Keiko said. "Would you like some hot chocolate? Or coffee?"

"Hot chocolate would be great, thanks." He smiled and disappeared down the dim-lighted corridor.

Five minutes later they were lounging on the floor, in front of the fire, warming their hands and sipping warm cocoa, their feet buried under the printed blanket to keep them from freezing. Outside, lightning struck and the rain went on pouring heavily.

"You know what's missing?" Yusuke suddenly asked.

"What?"

"Marshmallows." He winked conspirationally.

Keiko laughed. "Oh, I got that one!" She set her now-empty mug down the coffee table they had moved to one side. "That was during camp, wasn't it? The one with a really grouchy old man for an owner?" She made a face. "We were eight or nine... I can't recall the camp name but -- oh, it was the 'Talent Camp'!" She wrinkled her nose. "Or something like that. I think I was in the 'Arts and Crafts' section. What area did you pick?"

"Me?" Yusuke obviously knew what it was but didn't want to let her know. He coughed twice. "Uh, I don't remember..."

"Sure you do!" Keiko pushed him for information. "Was it... painting?" She tapped her chin. "Hhmm... no. Martial arts? Nope, I don't think they offered it back then --"

"Alright, alright! It was... acting."

Keiko almost choked. "ACTING?!?!" Then she snickered.

He shrugged, slightlt reddening. "Hey, the stupid guys at camp drew my name for that list! Ain't my fault and it ain't my choice." He stuck out his tongue playfully at her.

" 'Course it wasn't your choice; YOU didn't even want to go to camp in the first place."

"But there you were, dragging my butt out there in another island of Japan, getting my mother to sign the permission slip, and off we were."

"Sure, you can thank me later." She sniggered. "Anyway, I think that by the last day, the head counselor had all of the kids gathered out near the lake, and we had a bonfire..."

"...One of the other boys there was telling a really lame ghost story," Yusuke continued. "It was something about two star-crossed lovers who shot each other in a pact they made and scared each couple who passed by their old, haunted mansion --"

"-- And it was so lame you couldn't help your mouth from shooting out insults," Keiko went on, her tone partly admonishing.

"Hey, Urameshi Yusuke lets people know exactly what he thinks."

"And you told a much better story, anyway." Keiko remembered the story. "Let's see... it's a creepy tale about the wood chopper, who not only cut trees but lost kids' heads too?" She shuddered. "Where'd you get those ideas anyway?"

"From what I've seen?" Keiko visibly paled. "Kidding. I don't know, heard them somewhere. The important part was, I showed that boy how a good scary tale is told."

"Oh, and the boy was so steamed that the limelight was stolen from him," Keiko continued, animated, "that he challenged YOU to a marshmallow roasting test."

Yusuke laughed heartily. "As if he's the only one who knows how to roast marshmallows!"

"How many did you roast in record time?"

"56 sticks in four point seven minutes." He huffed his chest proudly.

Keiko shook her head. "That's virtually impossible!"

"Hey, Urameshi Yusuke never loses at anything!" Suddenly his face darkened. "Except..." He looked at Keiko, and she was perplexed to see that he wore one of his sad masks again. "I only lost twice: With Yomi... and with you."

He was going on a touchy topic again. Keiko sighed, partly from exasperation, partly from empathy. "Yusuke," she complained mildly, "I thought we'd agreed that no morose talk will be entertained in the three weeks we'll be together. Now cut that out and finish your chocolate."

He obeyed, his eyes solemn as he stared at her through the rim of the ceramic mug. He handed the cup over to Keiko who slightly turned her back on him to place it on the table near her.

When she turned around to face him, he was several inches closer. He was so close, in fact, that their noses almost bumped.

"You know," he said huskily, his voice becoming so low and sexy it sent shivers down Keiko's spine, "no matter how carefree and happy we were as kids... aren't you glad we're adults now?"

Keiko nodded, understanding. There are just some things only adults can do...

He looked deeply into her eyes, and saw his unquenched love mirrored in them.

He reached out and traced the outline of her heart-shaped face with his thumb. "Keiko," he whispered almost hoarsely.

Her large brown eyes were illuminated so beautifully in the glow of the fire. They gazed back at him with a welcoming intensity.

Without hesitation, Yusuke leaned forward and kissed her.

He kissed her slowly, tenderly, intimately. In that long kiss, he let her know how much he loved her, and how deeply he cared for her. She responded with the same ardor, as her fingers tightened around the collar of his shirt. Yusuke drew Keiko closer to him, his arms fitting tightly around her slim waist, and savored the feeling of her mouth on his. They began the motions of a normal kiss: He caught her upper lip with his lower lip, then her lower lip caught his upper lip, and so forth. He turned his head slightly to the side and delved his tongue in between her lips, exploring her mouth. Their tongues embraced, intertwining, getting tangled in the intensity of their kiss.

Yusuke's mouth traveled down to Keiko's throat, covering her slender throat with fiery kisses. Keiko craned her neck to one side to give him more access. She clutched his collar more tightly, sighing on his ear.

Yusuke pulled them down to the carpeted floor. He continued to nip at her heated skin, her hands drawing circles on her back. Keiko ran her hand up his neck to his hair, caressing it as only a lover would.

Some time later they had to stop for breath. Yusuke studied her intently, looking slightly concerned -- though the worry in his eyes was overshadowed by the unwavering the intensity. There was a fire in his eyes Keiko didn't see before, not even when they were making out -- which was all they did the past few days. She stared back at him, breathing a bit heavily. He reached up a hand and stroked the side of her face, tenderly, lovingly, before he asked, "Are we going too fast?"

She knew what he was asking. These past days, whenever they were getting dangerously close to making love, he would rein in and stop before they get there. Keiko admired Yusuke for a lot of things, but never for his self-control -- until now. She knew he stopped for her sake: it probably never escaped him that she was married to another man, and she had shared in his bed. Yusuke was probably thinking she would always remember the time she spent in bed with her husband, and not with him.

If only he could understand how her marriage to Ben Howard was nothing more than a piece of paper. Her heart had entered into a more lasting contract than that, years ago -- she was, right from the start, completely Yusuke's.

Keiko pushed back some of the hair off Yusuke's forehead, and looked into his eyes just as seriously. She said softly, "Don't you know how much I have waited for this night to be real?"

He sighed, but did not break their eye contact. "I know, Keiko, but --"

"But nothing," she interrupted, putting a finger on his lips -- a touch so fleeting and gentle he could have drowned in. "It's you I love. Then and now, and forever. We may not have a contract on paper to prove it, but my heart and soul belongs to you." Keiko found her eyes misting over, but the conviction in her eyes was unflinching. The fire that made the orange flecks in her brown irises complemented the passion in her gaze, the truth in her voice.

His hands found their way to her waist, where they rested snugly. His lips started to curl up into that carefree, boyish grin he wore when he was a delinquent teenager -- it used to annoy the heck out of Keiko then, but now, on him, it just looked sexy. "So... you really want to do this?"

Keiko found herself smiling back -- decisively, and just little bit naughtily. "Yes," she whispered, her eyes starting to cloud over with renewed lust, before leaning forward and capturing his lips in a searing kiss. It was sweet yet passionate at the same time -- very much like the caring but temperamental Keiko that Yusuke knew and loved.

He then wrapped his arms around her more tightly, his hands slowly roving her curves: he made delicious circling motions over her hips and her buttocks (where they lingered for a ridiculously long time, as it was obviously his favorite part of her body); he paid the same attention to her waist, before reaching up the side of her body and cupping her breasts. She let out a moan of pleasure when his hand lightly squeezed her right breast, his thumb seeking out one taut nipple under the lacy bra she was wearing.

From there their passion for each other was like a gushing geyser, all the trapped heat below the earth now even more fully unleashed. Before long their clothes and undergarments were tossed aside carelessly, and their mouths sought ought each other's again. Kisses soon alternated with caresses: mouth claimed skin, hands stalked flesh. They were leading each other through this dance of love, letting each other's pleasures escape, helping each other climb up this peak of desire. The found it marvelous, how well they really knew each other: how Keiko knew that Yusuke wanted her touching him in long, languid strokes, or how she knew he almost went out of his mind when she played lollipop with his ear; likewise, how he knew where to place his tongue or put his finger to let out the most arousing whimpers from her. It was if their hearts guided their motions, making this first time lovemaking even more spectacular.

In the background, the carefully-stoked fire continued to blaze, heating up the living room even further.

When neither of them could hold off their pleasure anymore, Yusuke drew back, staring at Keiko with half-lidded eyes. He managed a small grin before he whispered, hoarsely, three words; Keiko whispered them back. He dropped feather-light kisses on her eyelids, nose, her chin, her ears. Then he parted her legs, gently, and eased himself into her, tentatively, and heard her suck in her breath. When he thrusted himself completely into her Keiko was sighing in delectation.

Two bodies now became one... two hearts beating as a single organ... It was a scene Yusuke thought only existed in his fantasies, but here he was, here they were, making it every bit real.

He moved inside her once, and heard her gasp. He did it again, and she moaned. He moved yet again, and she said his name. It was the most pleasant sound he ever heard in years, and he wanted to hear more. He drove himself into her, in quicker intervals now, her back arching to receive him. Their rhythmic motions became faster, their bodies conjuring a beat: up and down, in and out.

The fire was still ablaze, enveloping the couple in a reddish light. The heat intensified as Yusuke and Keiko basked in their lovemaking, their skins breaking out in sweat as more sounds of love were exchanged. But they didn't stop. No, they didn't want to stop. This was what they dreamed of, and who would dare take it away from them?

With a final pant, Yusuke gave his last release; he felt her let go at about the same time, just as he heard her say his name in a cross between a sigh and a moan. He stayed inside her, savoring the softness and the wetness, before kissing her lips reverently and gradually withdrawing from inside her. He then lay down beside her, pulling her closer to him and tucking her head on the crook of his shoulder so he could put his chin above her head. Their breathing still labored, Yusuke wrapped his arms tightly around Keiko as she snuggled closer to him. When he looked down, he saw that she was looking up at him with a serene smile on her face; one that mirrored his own, no doubt.

"How do you feel?" she asked quietly.

Yusuke grinned back and pressed a small kiss to her temples. "Simply fantastic."

Keiko's smile widened a little before her eyelids fluttered closed. "Good."

They were both tired, but neither was sleepy. They were simply resting, taking a break, if in case their bodies screamed for more and they wanted to celebrate their love again. Keiko reached over and pulled the blanket over them, thinking, I knew this would come in handy.
