The Monster Inside Is...
Disclaimer: Kingdom Hearts is property of Disney and Square Enix. Final Fantasy is property of Square Enix.
Spoilers: Erm, know the side-effects of Drive abilities first, I guess.
Notes: This has no connection to the XIV drabble series. Somewhat crossover with a certain Final Fantasy character. Please read the bolded note at the end.
The day Sora first turned into a dark creature while attempting to use his Drive abilities was also the day he met the man who wore an outfit similar to the one Cloud had worn long before. He told the man this, but received no response at all. The man just kept watching the moon. Sora's already strained smile started to fade as he turned away from the man.
"...Cloud has a penchant for pretending to be someone he's not." Sora turned his gaze back to the man. He was still staring up at the moon. Sora, uncomfortable in his spot on the rocky ground - but it's not the ground really, it's - shifted so that he was hugging his legs to his chest.
Nothing but the wind made a sound for the longest time. As the man turned to leave, Sora blurted out, "I... I have a monster inside me. It came out today and I couldn't control anything I did... I had no control, and..." He shook his head before resting it on his knees. "I could've killed them," he whispered. "My friends."
Out of the corner of his eye he could see the man watching him - like he's judging me or - carefully. "But you didn't."
Sora shook his head. "No, but -"
"Accept it."
"What..?"
"Everyone has a monster inside of them. Some are stronger or more easily released than others, but they're there all the same. Accept this other part of you, and know that nothing it will do will harm the ones you care about. It shares your Heart, after all."
Something close to a smile appeared on Sora's face as he watched the bright moon. "Thanks."
Special Author's Notes: I'm
still spazzing over the characterization here. AGH. D: I'm getting Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus for Christmas, I hope those'll help me figure out how badly I mangled Vincent's character. (sighs) When I wrote this (near Halloween, meant to put it up then, but I favored Third Night over this, actually...) I was only half way through FFVII. I've finished the game over the weekend (December 2), and looked this over. I'm still not entirely comfortable with it, but... how do I know if it's terrible if I don't have someone else read it? If, after more exposure to canon, I feel that this is a nightmare, I'll take it down or tweak it. (continues to spazz)
Constructive criticism on characterization in this chapter is VERY WELCOME. In fact, it's being BEGGED for. Thank you.
