BlueShe liked to tell herself it was all just out of gratitude.
No other person, she reasoned, could pull off saving both of her brothers in one go. With the flick of her wrist, her svelte, dainty hands had called out the anomaly of a poison that left their own medics with nothing to but sit with their thumbs up their unmentionables and wait for the poor whelp to die. It was that very same set of hands that tore down a stone barrier twenty times bigger than her own self to nothing but debris and clutter, she and the deceased ruler of a nation no longer separated by mineral and rock.
The alliance called for thanks to be given from her side. It wasn’t everyday the Hidden Leaf would send over an archangel for backup, a legend for the storybooks.
Was this really the same little brat who tied in the preliminaries? Against some loudmouth who could do so little in her own body that she had to hide in the bodies of others?
Was this the same person who lay in deep slumber on her bedside, with nothing to keep their shame concealed against the intruding moonlight but a slightly transparent linen sheet?
She could settle for more, she thought with a wry, yet genuine grin; a lost child, a powerhouse, an unearthly, beautiful thing, all conjoined underneath that porcelain, scarred, raspberry-scented skin.
She liked to tell herself it was all just out of gratitude.
She would then reveal to herself the horse crap that it all truly was.

Her thoughts lapsed in the dark.
