A/n: I thought of this during the season three opening episode. SPOILER WARNING! D/L, obviously.
Disclaimer: I do not Zoey 101.
Free Throw
"Ugh!" A frustrated, angered, tired Logan Reese exclaimed in the dead of the night. It was one of his failed attempts at making a free throw shot. He had tried, and failed, over a thousand times within the two days he was at PCA. Logan performed a simple free throw times before in the summer during pick-up games at the park.
The last time Logan made a free throw was three days before school. Dana's number has shown up on his phone during a game with his pals back home. He told them to stop and let him take the call. Dana's voice was excited and nervous. She stumbled over her words of joy, telling him that she got into the program for a second year running and that she would stay in France for the whole year.
Logan, devastated, returned to the game. Ever since, he never seemed to make a free throw. Logan managed to tie that game, but that was all.
Logan chased the twenty balls the lied scattered across the court. When he returned them to the ball rack, he could swear that he heard whispers or giggles from around the corner. Shrugging it off, he returned to the hopeless cause.
He shot the ball and watched it bounce off the rim, just like the others. He heard a soft chuckle from behind him. Startled, he jumped and turned, seeing the girl back from France.
She sauntered over to him, took the next ball from his hands, and shot a perfect free throw. "How did you do that?" Logan wondered.
"Easy, I toss the ball."
"Haha," Logan started sarcastically, "Seriously, I need help if you haven't noticed." He was desperate; he would try anything and ask anyone for help at this point.
Seeing the helplessness, she agreed. She dropped her suitcases near the bushes, slipped off her flip-flops and walked over to Logan.
"Look, you need to work on you form," Dana said, reaching around him to position him properly.
Logan looked back at her and changed the subject suddenly, "I thought you weren't coming back." He looked sad and depressed when he said this.
"Well, I wasn't, but I realized how much I missed this place and some people."
"Like, who?"
"Well, I miss Zoey, Chase, Michael, and even Quinn. I can't wait to meet Lola…," Dana answered, obviously avoiding Logan's name.
"Oh," Logan's face was a sure sign of depression.
"And….Maybe a stuck-up, arrogant, egotistical, but still sweet and charming Logan Reese," Dana admitted.
"Sweet!" Logan looked up at her and smiled.
"Don’t let it go to your head, but you're not totally crossed off my list," Dana said as she hugged him goodbye, giving him some hope.
Logan waited till Dana was out of sight before jumping in happiness. Bored, he picked up another ball to try, try again. This time, the ball went perfectly into the basket, not bouncing off the backboard or rim, and even making the trademark 'swish' sound.
Dana was worth a shot, and his free throw went in.
A/n: Well, it's more strongly implied D/L than fluff. Anyways, review. If you don't understand the ending, it's saying that his free throw went in but, later on, Logan scores Dana, too.
