Fearing The Light

Ch.1 : Prologue- The Beginning

Harry’s brisk pace had slowed down. Looking at the cement crosswalk he felt the crisp cold air gently brushing against his rosy cheeks. When things became to much for him to handle, he depended on his nightly walks to calm him down.

Hesitantly stopping, he sat on a wooden park bench. He let out a sigh as he ran his fingers through his messy jet black hair. Another cool breeze came past him causing his emerald eyes to close, then to re-open. Harry stared at the midnight sky. It was beautiful, almost hypnotizing. Watching it gave him a feeling of comfort. In one way, that sky reflected himself.

Most night skies were smooth velvet black with small twinkling stars. But, not tonight. This night was black, all black with one mist covered moon. There were no shining stars of hope in his life, as there were no stars in this sky. There was, however, the moon. A huge symbol of life and hope as some would say. This moon was full, yet it was covered by thick grey clouds that were blocking its luminescent glow. It looked almost as if it were blocking itself on purpose, so no one could ever feel happy again.

Observing his surroundings, he came to realize that he had no idea where he was! ‘I don’t even remember walking this far.’Great, now he had to get home, and with his sense of geography he was going to end up in the United States. Rolling his green orbs he quickly made a decision to keep going straight. After ten minutes he knew he wasn’t sure of which direction he was heading.

“Not lost, are we? I could help…” said a silky voice.

In faster than light speed he spun around, ready to fight off his attacker. His wand was clutched in his right hand tightly, as if it were a life thread. His eyes narrowed when he saw nothing.

The voice laughed, and he knew it was not his imagination.

“Touchy. All I did was offer some help to a poor lost child. Youth is so ungrateful these days.” it was deep and calming…close to mesmerizing.

“Who are you? Show yourself.” he said with his Gryffindor courage.

“Who am I? That is hardly a question of importance. The question is: Who are you and why are you out on a night like this?” it replied.

“That is none of your business.”

“Tsk, tsk. Naughty, disrespectful children. They seem to be everywhere. I guess after years and years people stay the same.” it sounded closer.

Harry tensed, he knew it was coming closer he could feel it. But, he couldn’t hear it or hear breathing. What was this thing?

“What do you want?” he said.

It ignored him. “Bad children should be taught a lesson, no? After all, maybe you will take my advice next time and don’t go for midnight strolls.

Harry opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by a horrid pain in his neck. It felt like sharp swords were piercing into his flesh. He looked up and saw the clouds clearing from the moon, and a few stars formed in the sky. His vision blurred, and he fell to the ground while darkness took over.
