Necessary Truths

Hermione Granger was nothing if not a good friend.

Cruciatus is your friend.

She took care of those she blessedly called friend. She protected, taught, cherished; and if necessary she could be the shoulder you cried on, the keeper of secrets you would tell no other, not even your best mate, Ron. Ron didn't exactly understand feelings like Hermione did, he was more the guy you took to back you up in a fight. A muggle, of course, not a magical one- while Ron had one hell of a right hook, Hermione was the best at hexing your opponent and hexing him good. Yeah, Hermione was a hell of a friend.

Cruciatus is your friend.

That's why you protected her the most, isn't it?

Cruciatus is your friend.

That's why, when Voldemort gave you a choice of who lived and who died, when you knew you weren't going to win this last and final battle, you chose Hermione. You made him give you an unbreakable vow to protect her from all harm. You didn't even think twice. Not even when Ron fell to Lestrange in the heart of the fight did you have any second thoughts on who to save.
