Song: Nickleback - Far Away

In The End - Far Away (insert)

Tala was on his knees in an empty training room, working himself to the bone at Boris's command. Tala would die hating that man, and in his after life he'd still hate him.

He looked over his beyblade, it was cracked just before the bit and he figured it would be useless until he could fix it. He tightened his grip around the blade until its razor edges cut into his fragile white skin, then he flung it across the training room and the blade made a loud metal echo, but didn't break. His blade was mostly indestructible, but he had been destroying and neglecting it, he didn't care anymore, not even about his bit.

Tala saw the faint glow of Wolborg and he just looked away.

He was miserable…Kai was gone…for more than a month now, he knew he should have said something that day when Voltaire dragged Kai away, but he didn't dare look at Kai, now he silently blamed himself for Kai not coming back…although he still had hope. But he regretted it now, and he cried every night for the security and company of his brother…his friend. A lonesome tear trailed from Tala's eye and over his colourless scarred skin.

This time…this place…

He stood up and went over to get his destroyed beyblade, shoving it in his pocket. He wiped his face where the tear had been but was unaware of the blood he'd smeared against his white skin.

He walked out, pain on his face and in his eyes, no energy in his body. He felt like he was only a piece of himself.

Misused…mistakes…

He had cried every night since Kai was taken, he wanted Kai to come back. To protect him, to protect all of them. Boris was only angrier since Voltaire had taken Kai, his anger taken out on them, Tala was beaten not too long ago, about a week he estimated. He hadn't eaten in a while, much like it had been before Kai left.

Too long…too late…

Tala walked into his room…Damien wasn't there and Tala felt at ease. He locked the door and found himself uninterested in how Damien would get into the room. He stripped down in the dull bathroom, the door shut and he started running water into the bathtub. Tala leaned over the bath and he saw a drop of blood ripple the transparent mass of liquid, a tear followed the blood and Tala found it too hard not to cry…why hadn't he said something to keep Kai there.

Who was I to make you wait…

The water was piping hot when he stepped in, switching off the water and then bringing water up in his hands to rinse his face. Tala watched the liquids of blood and water mix, red and blue, Kai and him. He held his head in his hands as he started crying painfully, all of the memories of his time in the abbey flowing back. Their tortures, Kai in the 'Happy place', running through the snow, Spencer's brainwashed state, Worik…and now Kai was gone, he had always been there and now he was gone.

'What if I never see you again…' Tala's thoughts ran painfully through his head as the reality of so much time having passed set in.

Just one chance…

Just one breath…

Tala knew he missed Kai, but this pain was so terrible that it was making him physically weak. He wanted Kai to come back and save him, he always said that he wanted to save Kai, but now he wanted to be saved…he needed to see Kai to believe he still had something to live for…

Just in case there's just one left…

He could die any day, whether he was beaten, or left to freeze in the abbey yard, or left to bleed to death…or killed. Would he really never see Kai again, would Kai's last memory of Tala be that day when Tala kept his head low and didn't even spare Kai a glance and he was taken, would Kai think that Tala hadn't really needed him.

Cause you know…

You know…you know…

That I love you…

I have loved you all along…

Tala slipped down under the water, submerging his entire body and his head. He kept his eyes open even though the water burned his tired eyes. He watched the remaining blood float up into the water from his face, but he felt relaxed, he knew that if he let out his breath the water would end his life and the pain would be gone…

And I miss you…

Been far away for far too long…

He didn't want to feel the emptiness every time he thought of Kai, or suffer the pain and tortures without knowing Kai would be there to comfort him. He thought about this every night he cried, so hard that his head and chest hurt, he prayed even though he didn't have much faith in any God.

I keep dreaming…

You'll be with me…

And you'll never go…

Tala was running short on air and he closed his eyes silently deciding he would die right there. His blood spilled like it had been in the past, he would let the water drown him, he had control in death…because he knew he wanted it.

Stop breathing…

If I don't see you anymore…

Tala opened his mouth but it wasn't voluntary, his eyes shot open and focused on the blurry silhouette over him through the water. He felt his hair gripped and he was pulled from the tub with amazing strength and thrown on the floor. Water flowing everywhere and Tala coughing violently trying to find air…he knew he had swallowed water.

He knew who had pulled him out because no one else had that kind of strength, and the voice caused him to cringe as he lied on the floor indignantly naked, a mass of white and uncovered flesh.

Boris- "Your still trying to kill yourself you filthy little bastard, I warned you about that Tala, after your overdose stunt I thought we had an understanding!" Boris's voice was dry but angry. He looked over Tala's shivering body with disgust,

Boris- "Get dressed you pathetic fuck, some captain you are, worthless wretch." Boris was speaking softly and with natural contempt,

Boris- "And then clean up this mess…I expect you to be training when I see you again." He walked out after shoving Tala roughly onto his back with his dirty boot.

On my knees…I'll ask…

One chance for one last dance…

Tala lied on the floor, his body was shaking and the tears ran down the sides of his face over and into his ears. He would have given anything for Kai to be there just then to hold and tell him everything would work out. To tell him that there was always a way and that Boris wouldn't control them forever. For Kai to hold him until his crying exhausted him and Kai's voice lulled him to sleep.

Cause with you…

I'd withstand,

All of hell to hold your hand…

Tala forced himself up, he felt vulnerable and exposed, even weaker than before. He grabbed a towel and covered himself, then tried to stand on his wobbly legs, his fear was never ending. He looked in the mirror, it was still shattered from when he had broken it, only some of the remaining pieces reflected and he felt disgusted at the sight, without Kai, Tala truly was nothing, Kai had been his reason to be strong.

He wiped the tears and water from his face with the back of his damp hand and he calmed himself, he needed to be strong. He had to be strong for Bryan and Ian, even though it killed him even to try, he had to be worthy of Kai, and Kai had always believed in him, he had to believe in himself.

I'd give it all…

I'd give for us…

Give anything but I won't give up…

Tala would make it through all of this so that when Kai finally returned he was something Kai would be proud of. What Kai thought meant so much and he didn't really know why, but he wanted to be there for Kai one day…one day when Kai returned to him…to them…

Cause you know…

You know…you know…

I love you…

I have loved you all along…

He exited the bathroom and his eyes fell on Damien who sat quietly on his own bed, Boris's new pawn, a new spy…a new enemy.

He wouldn't have been here if Kai were still there, Damien would have been nothing, even Boris couldn't deny that this boy could never fill Kai's shoes.

'Not in any way…' Tala thought bitterly as he went to his set of drawers and pulled out shorts. He was far from Kai.

And I miss you…

Been far away for far too long…

Tala pulled the shorts on and then discarded the towel and Boris's orders to train, his body ached in so many ways…one of the needs was sleep. He crawled like a child into his cold bed, pulling the covers almost all the way over his head, as if it would protect him.

He wanted to disappear into his mind where everything was the way it should be, where Kai was there sitting with him and making him sleep with his reassuring words.

I keep dreaming…

You'll be with me…

And you'll never go…

Kai would stay with Tala until he was asleep, watching over him and sometimes fall asleep next to him. All of the cold disappeared at moments like that…

Stop breathing…

If I don't see you anymore…

All of the world made sense in moments like that when nobody else was there and they were safe in each others arms. Kai's vow to protect him as he held Tala like a scared child when he cried and was ready to give up. Those times held so much…

Damien- "Tala, I know that you don't think I deserve to be here because I'm not as good as you guys…but I'd like us to try and get along. There's no point hating me because of the fact that I'm replacing someone…Boris mentioned that to me that someone betrayed the team…" Damien's voice wrenched through Tala's serene and blissful thoughts and his words slowly registered in Tala's mind.

So far away…

Been far away for far too long…

So far away…

Been far away for far too long…

Tala opened his eyes slowly and he only saw darkness in the room, Damien had switched off the lights and had probably gone to sleep. This left Tala with a painful thought that was triggered by Damien's words…

Kai wasn't a traitor, it was Tala who had failed Kai when he didn't speak and didn't object, Tala knew Kai must have been hurt by his silence that day, it was all Tala's fault.

He felt now that hoping Kai would come back after being betrayed was an empty dream…maybe Kai would never come back…

Cause you know…

You know…you know…

I wanted…

I wanted you to stay…

There were no tears left to cry but the pain in Tala's chest returned when he thought of Kai hating him and never knowing that he hadn't meant to be so afraid. Never knowing that he was miserable when he was gone, he would never know what was happening to Tala every second he was away, how afraid he was, how much Tala needed him…how sorry he was.

I needed…

I need to hear you say…

That I love you…

I have loved you all along…

Tala's fists were so tight that they were turning cold from the lack of blood circulation, he remained silent in his pain. No one would ever know how weak he actually was…no one but Boris who had pushed him so far into fear. But Tala's greatest fear was going through this life of misery without anyone…without Kai, his brother…his friend…his protector…

And I forgive you…

For being away for far too long…

Tala's body suddenly went rigid and a splitting headache caused him to cry out softly as he gripped his head that was throbbing with pain. His vision blurred and his ears were ringing, the pain was so much…

So keep breathing…

Cause I'm not leaving you anymore…

Through all the pain in his head and his emotional pain, as much as he hurt, Kai was in his thoughts along with the silent wishes and prayers of his return. He needed to come back…Tala saw black and his hearing went flat for a moment and then there was absolute blackness…he passed out.

Believe me…

Hold onto me…

And never let me go…

Stop breathing…

If I don't see you anymore…
