Crate of Apple Gels

Chloe Valens walked down the path of the Misty Mountains. She carried a crate of apple gels from Moses to Norma. Why he ordered her to deliver it instead of taking a duct was beyond her comprehension.

Chloe was getting extremely tired hauling the thing with her. She had to put it down to fight those bird monsters and it almost got smashed in the heat of battle. “Couldn’t Norma just get it by herself?” she thought angrily.

A few minutes later she passed the Country Cottage. “Thank god I’m almost there!”

She didn’t get to Werites Beacon as fast as she wanted because a few Hopper things attacked! Now Chloe was REALLY pissed off.

And so...half an hour later...the girl knight finally saw the gates of town. She didn’t know why but she felt more pissed today than ever.

“Alright, Norma’s at Will’s house.” Chloe mumbled to herself. She made her way to the sheriff’s house and knocked on the door.

“Come in!” Will called.

“Oof.” Chloe placed the crate on the floor. “Whew. Hey Will! Where’s that brat Norma?”

“She went out for a while.” Senel replied.

“Okay.” Chloe said. She followed Senel into the living room when she stopped right in her tracks to find the familiar red-haired bandit Moses sitting on one of the couches. “Well, well, well. I see ya made it back, eh?”

“Yes thank you very MUCH!” Chloe snapped. “For nothing...HEY! How come you’re here!?”

“I took the duct silly.” Moses scoffed. Chloe grumbled. She started for the kitchen...and slipped on a banana peel! ‘Hey! Who put that there?’

Time seemed to go into slow motion mode (which it did) as Chloe slipped...as her eyes widened...as the box released from her grasp...and she fell flat on her face beyond humanely possible.

“C-Chloe! Are you ok?” Senel yelled.

“Mmph umph funfh...” Chloe replied, still on the floor. (I’m fine.)

“MY LOVELY CRATE O’ APPLE GELS!!!” Moses shrieked. He ran over to the spilled crate lying next to Chloe. All the apple gels were ruined! “Aw man...”

“What happened?” Will ran into the scene. He stared at Moses, then Senel, then Chloe. “Okay...”

The knight got up slowly, blushing a bit. “Y-you didn’t see that.”

“Yes we did.” Moses cried. “Bright and clear. I was about to give you your payment for the job but you failed at the last minute!”

Job? Chloe raised an eyebrow. That was...a freakin’ JOB!? Chloe’s left eye twitched. “A-a job? For what?” she tried to calm down her anger now.

Moses and Will chuckled. “For some strange reason, the monsters haven’t been dropping money and we know you want a new hat.” Will explained. Chloe had been wishing for a new hat ever since a few months ago. It had a few signs of stitches from battle and it didn’t look that good anymore.

“You’re actually interested in that kinda stuff?” Senel asked teasingly.

“N-no! Well, not that much. I must at least look presentable.” Chloe argued.

‘So Coolidge, Reynard, Shirley, Norma, Moses, Grune...and maybe Jay planned this for me?’

“Hey TEACH! RED! Are my apple gels here yet!?” came a high voice from the door.

“Yeah but-“ Will was just saying when the door behind him swung open with such force that he fell on the floor too.

Norma Beatty ran in. “Hi guys!” she greeted. “Hi...” Senel and Chloe answered.

Norma noticed Will. “Uh...sorry Teach!”

“Argh!”

Norma got her regular bonk on the head. “Owie Ow OW!”

The attention was concentrated on the arguing friends. Chloe on the other hand, stared sadly at the crate. ‘I was so close to the new HAT!’

She actually wanted the beret more than she thought.

Chloe let out a heavy sigh.

“...” Senel found himself staring at her.

Chloe sat on the edge of the fountain. She kicked her feet out of boredom. She knew she had other chances, but she felt she really wasted that opportunity. (I feel that a lot too)

Chloe held her current hat. It didn’t look THAT bad yet. ‘Maybe I could steal-’

“No! That does NOT fall into the knight’s code!” she raised her fist. “That is not in the name of JUSTICE!”

“Justice? What are you babbling about?”

“Yipe!” Chloe wheeled around. It was just Coolidge.

There was something behind his back.

“I was just talking to myself. Heh heh.” She grinned.

“Whatever.” Senel passed her a hurriedly wrapped parcel. Chloe stared wide eyed. “H-huh?”

“...” Senel just kept quiet.

Chloe gulped. She felt excited inside and weirded out at the same time as to why Coolidge was giving her something.

“Open it.” He insisted. Chloe slowly unwrapped the box. She gasped when she saw a brand new beret in there! “C-Coolidge...” she muttered in awe.

“What?” Senel replied absent-mindedly. He blushed slightly, but it disappeared immediately. “I just thought you might like it.”

Chloe got her act together. She stood up and walked over to Senel.

“Thanks. I appreciate it.” She whispered in his ear before giving him a quick peck on the cheek.

Now it was Senel’s turn to stare wide eyed as Chloe triumphantly disappeared down the street.

“Looks like I got my wish after all!” Chloe mused. Her stomach made loud noises. “Oh...time for dinner.”
