Okay well this is the prequel to Family Ties. I hope that if you're reading this you have read Family Ties, but it's not necessary that you do. It is however a good story. Okay back to what this story is: this is my new story called Nine Months it's about the nine months that Mer and Der spent together before Anna( if you're new to this Anna is my character from Family Ties, if you want to know Anna go read Family Ties then come back to this.) was born. Also for those of you who read Family Ties you'll remember the flashbacks of when Meredith found out she was pregnant ect. In this story they are going to be a little different. Different as in having more to them I just thought you guys would like to know. Hope you like it and as always R&R!

It has been two weeks since the prom and what Meredith and McDreamy had done in the exam room. Meredith tried her best to avoid him and Finn but it wasn't easy and sooner or later she knew that she and Derek would meet up. Meredith woke up and ran quickly to the bathroom. When she came out George was standing there waiting to take a shower.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Yeah I'm fine I think I ate something bad yesterday." Meredith told him.

"Are you sure?" He asked concerned.

"Yeah." She said going back into her room to get dressed for work.

Meredith drove to work and parked next to Christina who was just getting there too. Meredith got out and placed her hand to her mouth and ran to the bushes. Christina walked be hide her and shook her head.

"Morning sickness sucks doesn't it?" She asked her friend.

"It's not morning sickness, I ate something bad yesterday." Meredith defended.

"Yeah, Mer I used the stomach flu which much more believable, so the 'I ate something bad' isn't going to fool me. Christina retorted.

"I'm not pregnant!" She whispered.

"Okay, Mer did you have your period yet?" Christina asked casually.

"No not yet, but that doesn't mean anything. Because Derek and I ar-were a freakin' condom ad!" Meredith whispered to her friend as they walked in the building.

"Okay did you guys use one?" Christina asked as they walked into the locker room. Meredith didn't answer. 'Did we?' Meredith wondered as she got changed into her scrubs.

"Well that answers that, congrads Mer you're pregnant. Christina said sarcastically as she closed her locker. "So how are you going to tell McDreamy, better yet how are you going to tell your McVet?" Christina asked the two of them went looking for Bailey.

"You can't be sure of that; I would have to get an ultrasound." Meredith said defensively.

"Okay, well we're early so let's go." Christina said grabbing her friend's wrist and dragged her into an empty exam room.

"Christina we can't be doing this." Meredith protested. "What if we got caught?" She asked trying to get her friend to stop.

"Well, then we won't get caught okay? And since when did you care if we got caught?" Christina told her while turning on the ultrasound machine and getting the gel out. "Now Meredith if you would be so kind to lay down so I can confirm that you are in fact pregnant." Christina asked in a very doctor way.

"Oh I don't know….oh yeah since Izzy cut the L-VAD wire." Meredith said knowing she had to even if she didn't want to. Christina rubbed the gel on Meredith's belly. Christina found what she was looking for and froze the screen and show Meredith.

"I told you." Christina said. Meredith picked up her head and looked at the image. She was pregnant. She sighed and threw her head back down on the pillow.

"Christina how am I going to tell them?" She asked her friend hoping her friend would give her some answers.

"Well you could not tell and not have the baby." Christina suggested.

"No, I will have this baby no matter what." She protested.

"Then, Mer I can't help you." Christina said getting up and helping her friend up.

"I have to find Derek first. He needs to know first." She said starting to look for him.

"Mer, how do you even know it is his?" Christina asked quietly.

"Because, me and Finn we haven't had sex yet. That's how." Meredith confessed.

"Yeah, I'd tell McDreamy then McVet. Good luck Mer. I'll see you later. I'm gonna call Burke to make sure he's alright home alone." Christina said walking away.

"Christina he's a grown man I'm sure he's alright. " Meredith called from be hide. Christina just waved her off.

Meredith looked for Derek everywhere. She searched the surgical floor, his office, just about everywhere she could think of. She couldn't find him; she was on the lobby floor so she headed back to the surgical floor. When she got in the elevator she leaned against the back wall. She closed her eyes and tried to think of what she was going to tell him. The elevator dinged signaling that she had reached the next floor. She heard someone come in, Meredith opened her eyes. It was Derek.

"You've been avoiding me you know that." He told her while he typed something on his Sidekick.

"I know….Derek I need to tell you something." She said with nervousness in her voice. Derek could hear it in her voice, he put his Sidekick away.

"Mer, what is it?" He asked his voice filled with concern.

"Derek…I-I'm pre-pregnant." Meredith barely got out. The shock was written over Derek's face.

"Wh-who's is it?" Derek asked nervously.

"Yours." Meredith answered.

"Mine?" He asked aloud. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, it has to be yours, because Finn and I haven't has sex yet." She said sheepishly. Derek ran his hand over his face trying to figure out what to do.

"Give me till tomorrow to talk to Addison. Then we'll figure something out. Okay?" He asked. Meredith nodded.

"I need to talk to Finn too." Meredith said.

"I'm glad you told me." He said as Meredith started out of the elevator, she turned around and smiled. Meredith pulled out her cell phone and dialed Finn's number.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Finn it's me."

"Oh, hey how are you?"

"I'm good, I was wondering if you're free for lunch today."

"Yeah, I am where should I meet you?"

"At the Café Du Chocolat at one-thirty."

"I'll see you then, bye."

"Bye."

Three hours pasted and Meredith got into her car and drove to the café. She was twenty minutes early, but she didn't care. Meredith sat at the café table waiting for him; she tried to find the best way of telling him. She tentatively put her had on her soon to be growing stomach. She was having a baby. Derek's baby. She didn't even know if Derek was staying for her or just for the baby. She didn't know. But if she stayed with Finn it wouldn't be fair to the baby knowing that Finn wasn't baby's father. She was lost in her thought when Finn walked up. He touched her arm bringing her back to reality.

"Oh…Finn….hey." Meredith said nervously.

"You okay?" Finn asked.

"Yeah…Finn we have to talk." She told him.

"About?" He asked concerned.

"Finn…..I'm pregnant." She said finally.

"It's Derek's isn't." He asked even though he knew the answer.

"Yes, Finn I'm sorry it's just, he's the baby's father, I'm really am sorry." Meredith said sadly.

"You two were never just friends were you?" He asked with a little anger in his voice.

"No, we weren't just friends." She said quietly.

"He going to hurt you again, and when he does I'm not going to be there next time." Finn said getting up and leaving Meredith sighed, it was over; Meredith order something to go and head back to the hospital.

Later that night…

Derek went inside the trailer, he knew Addie was home. He found Addison in bed with a cup of tea. She wasn't drinking it she was just playing with the tea bag. He threw his stuff on the table and walked up to the bed and sat down.

"I think we need to talk. I've been trying to avoid doing this, but I can't any longer." Derek said to her. Addison just nodded. "We've been trying to fix something that died long ago, long before Meredith or Mark. And it-." He was cut off by Addison.

"I found these in you tux pocket. They're not mine, but I think I know who's they are." She said handing Derek the panties. "Derek you and I both know it's over, but why did you wait two weeks before telling me about the panties and her." Addison said blinking back the tears that were forming.

"I waited because I didn't know" Addison looked at him confused. "Meredith is pregnant, with my child." He finished.

"Are you leaving for her or just the baby's sake?" Addison wanted to know.

"Both. She needs me both of them do. She's just an intern she can't take long periods off like you or I could. She needs so one to help her." It hurt Addison to hear this, but she knew it was true. "I loved you Addie, but we fell out of love and I'm partly responsible. I was absent and indifferent. I should have been there, and I'm sorry. I still love her." He finished.

"Yes, you were. I'll miss you Derek." Addison said sadly. "Derek I think you should know that what Mark and wasn't just a one night stand; after you left we lived together for two months, but Mark being Mark. I caught him with someone else and then Richard called; and I hoped that we could fix what we had, but obviously we couldn't." Addison confessed. It hurt Derek to hear this, but he suppressed the anger that was building and stood up, Derek got up picked up his things and left.

The next morning Derek came back to the trailer to find that all of Addison's things were gone. There was a note on the table:

Derek,

I've taken my things and left; I'll be fine. I'm going to stay at a hotel. Take care.

Don't hurt her again, she doesn't deserve that.

Derek put the note down and started to make a pot of coffee.

A few hours later Meredith drove up to his trailer, he's car was there, her car wasn't. 'Thank God' she thought. Meredith got out and knocked on the door. Derek opened the door surprised to see Meredith there.

"It's over between Finn and me." She said with a bit of relief.

"Addison and I are done too." He told her.

"Derek I need to know…..did you leave Addison for me or just for the baby?" Meredith asked nervously.

"Both of you." He told her, putting his hand on her stomach. She smiled. Meredith went inside and sat down, Derek poured her a cup of coffee. "What do you want to name the baby?"

"Huh? Oh, if it's a girl I want her name her Anna Elizabeth Shepard-Grey. And if it's a boy Jack Derek Shepard-Grey." She told him.

"I like them." He said sipping on his coffee.
