The light from outside slowly began to fade as the winters snow piled against the windows of Hogwarts. Two boys were left alone in Gryffindor common room after many had retired to their beds for the night.

A tall dark boy sat on the end of the couch, nearest to the dying fire. His raven hair was cut short and hazel eyes were narrowed in concentration. He sighed, tossing the gray pencil aside and reaching for a black one. His hands slid expertly across the paper, pencil brushing across creating fine strokes.

Another boy was left in the room, this one with sandy colored locks. He lay sprawled in an armchair, honey brown eyes closed. He lazily lifted an eyelid, sneaking a glance at the artist. Dean Thomas was wearing the usual Hogwarts attire consisting of plain black robes and the Gryffindor tie hanging loosely around his neck. His cloak, like Seamus’, lay long forgotten on the end of the couch.

Seamus stared at the boy a minute longer, noticing how his pale pink lips were parted slightly, and his canine teeth were chewing on a worn piece of bubble gum.

“Hey Dean,” called the Irish boy, hopefully.

Dean spared a glance Seamus’ way before going back to his drawing. “Yeah?”

“Can you toss me some gum?”

Dean cocked an eyebrow at this looking over at the package of gum on the table. It was right in between them on Seamus’ side. Why couldn’t he get it?

“Seam, you do realize its right in front of you, yeah?” asked Dean casting a skeptical glance at his fellow Gryffindor.

Seamus gave him a grin. “But I can’t reach it.” He pleaded.

Dean sighed, his lips twitching, trying to suppress a smile. “Then get up.” said the artist before getting back to his drawing. He shook his head, making a few corrections with his pencil, catching the stray lines.

The Irish Gryffindor pouted. “But Dean,” he whined, “I can’t get up. That would pain me too much.”

“What? Getting up and walking half a step?” asked the boy.

Seamus grinned. “Exactly!”

Dean rolled his eyes at his friend’s antics. “Seamus, I’m really busy right now. I have to finish this by tomorrow.”

The sandy haired boy frowned. “You can’t take one second, one small second, of your time to hand me a piece of gum?”

Dean looked at him as if contemplating whether to hex him now or later. “No.”

Seamus pouted but soon it was replaced by a grin. He slowly arose from his comfy chair walking towards the table. He bypassed the package of Droobles gum and instead perched himself next to Dean on the couch.

Dean looked at him, giving him a withering glance. “You just passed the gum totally. That’s sad, Seam, even for you.”

Seamus’ grin widened as he leaned forward. Ignoring the look of confusion on Dean’s face the Gryffindor closed the gap between them, placing hiss lips on his friends.

Dean responded with a small yelp of surprise. “What the he-“ his statement was cut off however as Seamus wiggled his tongue in Dean’s mouth. After a few moments Seamus leaned back, a grin of triumph on his face.

Dean stared at the Irish boy in front of him, dumbstruck. “What- what just happened- did you- where’s my gum?”

Seamus grinned, blowing a bubble.

Dean laughed. “Guess you got your gum after all…”
