This is a random little songfic I whipped up to keep you guys busy while I worked on The Rose. The song is “Can’t Take Me” by Brian Adams. Don’t blame me if the lyrics are off.

I stumbled numbly after the guards, Featherpaw and Stormpaw right behind me. What were they going to do to us? Why were we to blame for being half-Clan?

Can’t take me

Yeah!

Gotta fight another fight

Gotta run another night

I’m gettin’ up, check it out

I’m on my way and I don’t feel right

I heard loud cheering up ahead, and felt myself shoved from behind. I found myself in the clearing with the Bonehill. Tigerstar’s malicious amber eyes glared down at me from the pile of bones.

I gotta get ‘m back

I can’t be beat, and that’s a fact

It’s okay, I’ll find a way

Ain’t gonna take me down no way

Yeah

“Do you know why these cats are here?” The dark tabby’s voice rang out. “Why?” a cat called back. “These are half-bloods. Graystripe and Bluestar of ThunderClan flaunted the warrior code by taking mates from RiverClan. RiverClan has been seeded with the weeds of treachery, and we must root them out. Think, if we engage in a battle with ThunderClan, they might hesitate to attack, or even turn against us. Do we want that?” “No!” the crowd roared. “Then they must die. Only by destroying these half-breeds can TigerClan be clean and free from treachery.”

Don’t touch a thing ‘till you know what’s inside it

Don’t push me outside it

Never gonna get it, never gonna give it up, no

If you can’t catch a wave then you’re never gonna ride it

You can’t come uninvited

Never gonna get it, never gonna give it up, no

You can’t take me

I’m free

I felt a wave of shock pass through me. They were going to kill us just because our parents were from different Clans! Fiery anger washed over me. Damn Tigerstar! Why couldn’t we just continue our lives, regardless of what had happened before we were born? It wasn’t like we could control our own birth!

I did it on the run

I wanna know what’s goin’ on

And what’s this

Holdin’ me

I’m not where I’m s’posed to be

“What do you have to say for yourself?” Tigerstar demanded. My anger turned to blind fury. My thoughts and feelings simply poured out my mouth—I couldn’t control myself.

“I have done nothing wrong. Are you accusing me of being a traitor? I’m a loyal RiverClan warrior, and have been all my life! I didn’t find out that Bluestar was my mother until after I became deputy! I’d die before I betray my clan!” I hissed.

Tigerstar calmly flicked his tail. “Very well. Darkstripe, kill him.”

I gotta fight another fight

Gotta fight with all my might

I’m getting’ up, so check it out

You’re in my way, yeah, you better watch out

Oh, come on

Darkstripe slammed into me. I felt all the breath knocked out of my body. He backed up, then leaped again. I twisted under him and battered his stomach with my hind feet. While he lay panting for air, I saw my opening, and scratched him again and again.

Tigerstar wasn’t going to stand for me winning. “Finish it,” he ordered Blackfoot.

I’m free

The second tom leaped at me and landed squarely on my shoulders. Darkstripe held me down with his claws, while Blackfoot tore into my throat. I felt a terrible pain, and saw three pairs of eyes in the bushes, one green and the others amber, flashing with worry and anger, then… nothing.

Hey

Oh yeah, I’m free

Hey

Hey

Hey

Hey

Hey

Hey

I just had to write this. I admire Stonefur’s courage and determination so much, and this song fits him perfectly. Please review!
