Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I've updated this story. I hope you guys enjoyed reading the story, because this is the final chapter! So, here goes the final chapter of From Bad To Worse.

Chapter 10: Freedom and Surprises

Grissom and the team had just arrived at Desert Palms to check up on Greg and Cali. During the whole ride to the hospital, Grissom had explained to everyone that when Cali was young that her brother was murdered and she was kidnapped and Grissom and Brass and saved her. Everyone was still recovering from the shock of the story and finding their friends in that shape, but they were glad they were alive…for now. When they walked up the receptionist, Grissom asked, "We're here for Cali Meyers and Gregory Sanders."

The receptionists flipped through the pages. "Cali is still in surgery on the fourth floor and Gregory just got out of surgery. He's on the fourth floor as well."

Grissom thanked the woman and guided the team up the stairs. When they reached the fourth floor, they walked up the desk. "We're here if Cali Meyers and Gregory Sanders," says Grissom for the second time that day.

"The doctor will be out shortly." Grissom smiled and walked into the waiting area and sat down with the rest of the team. After a half an hour of waiting, a doctor said, "Ms. Cali Meyers and Mr. Gregory Sanders?"

The whole team stood up. "Are you family?"

"Well, technically…" starts Nick, but Warrick nudges him.

"I'm Cali's adoptive father. We're also co-workers of both," explains Grissom.

"Well, Cali has just gotten out of surgery and is expected to make a full recovery." Everyone sighs with relief. "What about Greg?" asked Warrick.

"I'm only allowed to disclose information about him to his family."

"If I may be so bold as to interject, but I'm the one that has signed for his medical release," explains Grissom.

"Well then, Gregory is has been out of surgery for quite some time and is recovery very well."

"Can we see them?" asks Catherine.

"I don't see why not."

They all smile and head off down the hall where the doctor pointed. "Why don't you guys go check on Greg, I'll stay with Cali," says Grissom.

They all nod and head off down the hall even further and Grissom enters Cali's room. Cali lay motionless on the bed. Grissom took a seat next to her and waited for her to wake up. Meanwhile, the whole team had entered Greg's room and found him sitting up in his bed. "Oh, hey guys," says Greg with a raspy voice.

"How ya feeling Greggo?" asked Sara.

"Pretty good, I just can't wait to get out of here. How's Cali?"

"She just got out of surgery. She's supposed to make a full recovery," explains Nick.

"Can I go see her?" asks Greg.

"I don't think that's such a good idea Greg. You still need to recover yourself," says Catherine.

"I'm not dead guys. I feel fine!"

"I'll go check with the nurse," says Nick and he walks out the room. A couple minutes pass and Nick comes in with a wheelchair. "Alright Greggo, your stubbornness paid off."

Greg smiled and Warrick and Catherine helped Greg get into the wheelchair. "Let's roll," says Warrick and they head out the door and down to Cali's room.

Where was I? The last thing I remember was being in the dark hallway with pain sheering through my shoulder, but that pain is gone and I'm in a fluffy bed. As I open my eyes, the blinding white light surrounds me. "Am I in heaven?" I ask.

"No, you're far from it. And trust me, you're no angel," said a familiar voice. It couldn't have been…could it? "Grissom?"

I look over and see Grissom sitting in the chair smiling at me. "Where…"

"You're in Desert Palms."

"Where is…"

"Recovery. He's just fine."

I smile. It was amazing that Grissom could answer a question before I could even finish it. Then, the quote Grissom told me when I convinced him to let me date Greg came to me. "A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment."

Grissom sits there shocked. "Jane Austen from Pride and Prejudice. Why did you…"

"You told me that when I convinced you to let me date Greg. You said it because you didn't want me to jump to a conclusion to quick."

"I did, didn't I?" Then, I heard the door open. I looked up and saw Catherine, Sara and Warrick walk through the door. "Hey Cali. Glad to see you're awake!" says Warrick.

"Good to see you too," I reply.

"There's someone here to see you," says Catherine.

"Who?"

"Bring him in Nicky," yells Sara. Then, Nick walks in wheeling Greg. My eyes fill with joy. "Greg!"

"Cali!"

Nick brings him over and Greg leans in, hugging me. "I'm so glad you're okay!" cries Greg.

"Me too." For the longest moment, Greg and I held each other while the whole team watched. Tears of joy fell down my face. "I thought I lost you," I whispered.

We just held each other and cried. I could see out of the corner of my eye the whole team standing there smiling. And for the first time in my life, I saw Grissom cry with joy.

THREE MONTHES LATER…

Greg and I sat in the break room reviewing a case that we just closed. "I knew the ex-boyfriend did it. You owe me fifty bucks!"

Hesitantly, Greg gives up the fifty dollar bill. Then, the whole team came in smiling. "What are you guys smiling at?"

But they didn't answer. I look over at Greg. "Greg, what's going on?"

Greg looked up from the paper work and smiled. He gently took my hand and started to speak. "When you and me were held in that dank, musty, dirty, lame-excuse-for-a-basement, I couldn't stop thinking about what I was going to do when we got out of there. So, I came up with this excellent plan. I went into the files to check out your back-story to make up a lame story to remind you why I love you so much when something popped into my head that you told me that the file didn't say. You said that your brother died in the hospital the day Grissom adopted you, but the record said that he was quickly revived. So, I asked the team here to help me locate him, and now, I want you to meet a close friend of mine. Come on in Alex!"

Shocked, I look at the doorway and as everyone moves out of the way, the last person I thought I would ever see came through the door. Alex, my brother that I thought was dead for the past eighteen years, walked through the door. "Hey Cali."

I stood up hesitantly. "This isn't possible. The doctors told me…"

"They told you that they lost me, but after you left, a miracle happened. I've been looking all over for you for the past eighteen years."

I run over to him and we embrace in a huge hug. I begin to cry hysterically. "I missed you so much."

Alex gently pulls me off and looks at me. "There's one more thing Greg hasn't told you yet."

"Cali…"

I turn around and see Greg kneeling in front of me. He slowly pulls out a little velvet box and reveals a beautiful diamond ring. "Will you marry me?"

I stand there speechless. I could hear everyone in the room crying, even Brass! "Of course I will."

Greg smiles and quickly gets up and lifts me of the floor. Everybody claps and as Greg gently places me on the floor, he leans in and we share a kiss. "Congratulations guys."

I turn around and I see Ecklie standing in the doorway. "I'm very happy for you, but need I remind you that you're still on the clock."

Ecklie walks out the room. "That is the one man I refuse to invite to our wedding," I say.

Everyone in the room begins to laugh. I look at Greg and smile. "Thank you Greg."

"You're welcome."

"A toast!" I turn around again and see Catherine and the team holding up glasses of champagne. Warrick hand Greg and I a glass. "A toast to Greg and Cali! May they live happily ever after!"

"Amen to that!" shouts everyone in the room as they begin to clink glasses together. From now on, my life was never going to be the same.
