Hey everybody! This is a Satoshi X Riku pairing, so I’m hoping it’ll turn out okay since I usually write Dark X Riku fan fictions. Anyways, hope you like it! Please review!

Warnings: This is an AU fan fiction, meaning an alternate universe fan fiction, and some people will be out of character so remember, I warned you.

Winter Angel

A large building sat in a sea of white snow, slowly being covered. It was surrounded by nothing but snow, without people or animals. It was where Riku had been left by her family.

She was stuck there, without food or water. Her family had left her there because they were poor, and could only take care of one child, but even though she and Risa were twins, they had picked her instead of Riku.

Riku was always strong though, but inside the building, she lay crying…

“Sniff…Sniff…”

Riku sat in her dark room, huddled up in a corner, crying.

“Stupid… I hate this, I hate everything!” Riku shouted, as she choked on her tears.

Riku pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them, as she buried her face into her arms, sniffling.

“I hate myself, I hate myself for being so weak!” Riku shouted, then, the light tapping noise of footsteps could be heard.

“Huh…?” Riku muttered, as she looked up to see who it was.

It was a young boy, around the same age as her, or so he appeared.

Riku quickly tried to wipe away her tears, and clean her face, as the young boy watched her.

This is so embarrassing!’ Riku thought, still wiping her face.

The young boy watched her, as his mouth curled upward, into a warm smile, though his clear, sky blue eyes showed a different expression.

Riku finally looked up at him, ‘He’s so, ‘angelic looking’…’ Riku thought, as she soon lost herself in the sky blue orbs that watched her.

“Are you all right?” The boy asked.

“Umm, yeah, I’m okay…” Riku said.

He wore long, snow white robes, that reached his ankles, and in some areas, reached the floor. His hair was almost the same color as his eyes, and it was cut short at the nape of his neck. He also wore a set of glasses, which sometimes caught the light that filtered through the closed shutters. He looked like an angel, an angel sent by God.

Then he spoke quietly, “I am an angel, sent by God once a year, during the month of December, when the snow falls from the skies, blanketing the Earth in white…”

“Why have you come here? Has God sent you to me? Am I being taken away from here, so that I may join the angels in Heaven?” Riku asked.

The angel was silent, contemplating on what he should tell her.

“Of course not, it figures. I’m not good enough to go to Heaven. So have you come here to tell me that I am unable to go there? Am I being banished to the depths of Hell?” Riku asked.

The angel paused, at that moment began speaking once more, his voice still quiet, “Each year, I come down to Earth with God’s orders, “Go down to Earth, and guide the lost souls, back to their path.”

Riku watched him, listened to every word he spoke. She was entranced by his very being, and surprised at his, ‘mission’.

The angel saw Riku’s watchful eyes, and then began speaking again, “I can only guide one soul out of darkness each year, so, when I choose someone’s soul, and I only choose someone I truly want to save… Someone ‘special’…”

“So am I so special to you, that you want to guide my ‘lost soul’?” Riku asked, hoping that she was in fact, ‘special’

“I really don’t know how to describe how I feel about guiding your soul, but I know I won’t regret my choice. So, will you allow me to guide your soul back into the light?” The angel asked.

“I will, but, please tell me your name…?” Riku said, standing up from the dusty floor.

The angel replied, closing his eyes elegantly, “My name is Satoshi Hikari… And you are Miss Riku Harada, are you not…?”

“I am, but, how did you discover me in such a place as this? Is it because you’re an angel?” Riku asked, curious.

“I am an angel, yes. But, I found you not because I am angel, but because your soul cried out to me… Desperately, it called out to me, its’ voice weak. Even though it was weak, and faint, it called out to me, pleading for me to save it and to save you…” Satoshi said smiling a sad smile.

“My soul, did it really call out to you?” Riku asked.

“It did, and so I followed its’ voice, and found you… Now, I shall explain to you, how an angel guides a lost soul to its’ rightful path…” Satoshi looked at the closed window shutters, walking over to it, then pulling the dangling string, opening the shutters, lighting the room with the light of the setting sun.

Satoshi then looked back at Riku and motioned for her to come near the window.

“Look outside, what do you see?” Satoshi asked.

“I see the sun, the sky, and the falling snow…” Riku replied.

“Did you know that everything you see was created by God?” Satoshi asked.

Riku nodded, and then turned her attention back to Satoshi.

“Do you know why God created these things?” Satoshi asked.

Riku shook her head.

“First, God created the sun, to bring light into the world. Second, God created the sky, but by itself, it doesn’t have a ‘special’ meaning to it. God created the sky, so that he could create many other things, such as rain, hail, and snow. They say that the rain symbolizes that God is crying, and that hail symbolizes God’s anger, but that isn’t what it means, in fact, these things don’t have a particular meaning. The only one that does is snow…” Satoshi said.

“What does the snow symbolize?” Riku asked.

“I’m not sure you could say it symbolizes anything, but it ‘is’ something.” Satoshi said.

“What is it?” Riku asked.

“If an angel in Heaven is about to become evil, then God destroys them. When God destroys them, he is saddened, but even though he destroyed them, he still loves them, and cares for them very much, so he has what a human would call a funeral, and scatters the ashes of the angels into the sky, and they soon find their way to Earth, gently falling, and covering the Earth with their previously Holy ashes, cleansing the Earth of its’ sins…” Satoshi explained, his expression becoming sadder, as his eyes were glazed over with tears.

“Why are you crying?” Riku asked.

“I’m crying because, in a way, I’m angry at God for destroying my friends, but in a way, I’m also glad that God did what he did, because he saved my friends from becoming Satan’s pawns. Maybe, I don’t deserve to be an angel in God’s Holy domain, and maybe even I have become a lost soul. But, I’m still going to guide your soul, so I want you cooperate with what I want you to do, because there isn’t much time…” Satoshi said.

Riku nodded.

“First, you must abide by the laws of God, which is what you have been doing, but there is one law you have not yet followed completely. It is to love everybody, even those who cause you pain or suffering…” Satoshi said.

“But how can I love such people? How can I forgive them of what they’ve done?” Riku asked, her eyes welling up with tears again.

“You have to learn to forgive everyone, and to love everyone, even angels can’t do that without having doubt in their hearts, just like me…” Satoshi said.

“If even angels cannot follow that law, then why does God have such an unachievable law?” Riku asked.

“He has it because even though people or angels can’t follow it without doubt, they try their hardest to follow it, because it’s God’s command.” Satoshi said.

“Though that’s all I can say right now, your soul will most definitely be saved, because you are just as heavenly as angels, yet you have a weak soul. If your soul were of a normal person, I would have no need to save you now, but because your soul ‘is’ weak I’ll save you if you can save yourself…” Satoshi said.

“Save myself…I’ll save myself…!” Riku said, smiling with tears in her eyes.

“Good…Good…Tonight, I’ll return and if you have cleared yourself of your hatred, then I can save you, and I can take you with me, to Heaven…” Satoshi said, a bright, blue-white light surrounding him. As it slowly engulfed him, he disappeared into the light, leaving Riku.

“If I can clear my hatred,”

“If she can clear her hatred,”

“Then we’ll be together,”

“Side by side,”

“We’ll save each other from the darkness that surrounds us, and conquer the doubt within ourselves!”

A/N: This was originally supposed to be a two chapter fan fiction, but I turned into a one-shot because chapter two would've been really short, so anyways, think of this as the time skip where Riku is trying to clear her hatred.

Midnight

Riku sat on the floor, huddled up in the corner again.

I think I’ve finally cleared my hatred…’ Riku thought, smiling to herself.

They probably took Risa with them because they’re worried about her, and they--‘

“Riku! Are you in here?” A voice called.

“Huh?” Riku said, suddenly standing up, as she recognized the voice.

“Riku! I’m so sorry we came so late, but we had some trouble getting your parents to tell us where you were, since we uh, couldn’t find them…” Riku’s grandmother said.

Just then, a blue-white light appeared again, and Satoshi emerged.

Riku’s grandmother screamed, “It’s a devil!”

Then, Satoshi revealed his heavenly wings, and took hold of Riku’s hand with an apologetic look on his face.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Riku asked, worried.

“I—God spoke to me, and told m that I will not be able to take you with me… To bring you to Heaven, because, you’re still needed here, with your grandmother.” Satoshi said.

“But I want to go with you!” Riku shouted.

“I can’t allow you to come with me, but, someday, when the snow falls, I’ll come back to save your soul and I’ll welcome you into Heaven with open arms…One day…” Satoshi whispered as he disappeared back into the light, leaving behind a glowing, white feather.

Riku’s eyes immediately filled with tears, and Riku just stared at the feather lying on the floor.

A tear fell down Riku’s cheek, off of her chin, and then fell onto the feather, as she bent over to pick it up.

“It’s warm…” Riku muttered, touching the feather, and then grabbing it, holding it to her chest.

“One day, when the snow falls, you’ll come to save me, and when I’m saved, I’ll come to Heaven, to rush into your warm embrace… One day…” Riku whispered, smiling, the tears still falling from her eyes.
