AN: First, let me apologize for the inbox spam. Just in general. Second, this is a collection of oneshots centered around three couples in the same series: Don Flack/Kaile Maka, Danny Messer/Lilly Harper (OC), and Darren Mullvaney (OC)/Lindsay Monroe. I originally had these all in separate fics, but I decided to condense and save space. They were all connected anyway. I've also put what I have written already in chronological order, but after that, I'm going back to timeline jumping, but I'll be clear about where the fics fall. That is all.
Kaile glanced around the precinct having no idea where to go or who to talk to. Her last captain had given her nothing but a name to talk to. And a name wasn’t very much help without a picture or some kind of idea who this person was to go with it. She spotted a woman with a badge attached to her belt, and decided it was better to at least ask directions rather than wander around looking like an idiot.
“Excuse me, but—”
“Sorry, lady, I’m on break,” the blond woman snapped automatically, starting to get up and walk away, not taking her eyes off the file in front of her, “If you have a complaint, register it with a front case, if you have information about a case, that would also go to the front desk, unless it’s about one of my cases, in which case, I would point you in the direction of that man over there—” she pointed in the direction of a tall man in a leather jacket, nodding off in his chair, “—and he’ll take your statement and I’ll talk to you later.”
“But—”
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but I really don’t have time right now,” and with that her blond hair disappeared into a sea of officers.
“I love it here already,” she muttered, before heading in the direction of the tall detective. She glanced over the mess, and spotted a nameplate buried under a pile of papers: Detective Don Flack Jr. Not the name she was looking for, but he might know where she was supposed to go. She noticed that he was probably writing when he nodded off, because the pen had gone slack in his hand but his hand was still moving and leaving messy blue lines all over the paper. She took the pen out of his hand, and then shook the hand gently, “Excuse me?”
He startled himself awake, and blinked up at the woman confused, “Can I help you?”
“Hi,” she grinned, “My name is Detective Kaile Maka. I’m the new homicide detective that supposed to be working with the crimelab. I’m looking for a Detective Mac Taylor.”
The confused look remained on his face, “Don Flack,” he replied, extending his hand to her, “And who pointed you in my—”
“Blond detective,” Maka stated, “Didn’t catch her name.”
“Harper,” Flack rolled his eyes, “She claim she was on a break?”
“Yeah.”
“She must have a lead,” Flack replied, “Harper would actually be the better one to go to, she’s a CSI with the crimelab who works under Mac, but since she doesn’t seem to have time for people at the moment—Messer!”
“Yeah?” another detective said, stopping next to Flack.
“Maka, this is Danny Messer,” Flack introduced, “He’s a CSI who’s actually working Mac’s case, so he can take you exactly where you need to go. Danny, this is Kaile Maka, she’s the new homicide detective from upstate, and—” A blond head wandered past them, and Flack head off after her, “Yo! Harper! Lilly!” Flack disappeared, and Maka turned back to Danny.
“Always this crazy in here?” Maka asked as they started to walk towards the door.
“Well—” Danny began.
“Lilly and Flack anywhere?” a curly haired detective said as she came up to them.
“Flack just chased Lilly that way,” Danny replied, but stopped the woman before she could move, “Stella, this is Kaile Maka, Kaile—”
“Maka,” she interrupted, and Danny smirked.
“—Maka, this is Stella Bonasera,” Danny continued, “Maka is the new detective assigned to work with the crimelab.”
“Nice to meet you,” Stella smiled, before both of them watched as Harper went running past them again, Flack stopping, a bit winded. Danny then spotted Mac over Stella’s shoulder and hurried him and Maka in the direction of the older man.
“Lilly OK?”
“I have no idea,” Flack replied, catching his breath, “But she’s moving like a woman on a mission, so I don’t want to be between her and the next thing that pisses her off.”
“You OK?” Stella asked, giving the man a smirk.
“Yeah, fine,” he sighed, “Just finished chasing that woman all over creation, but otherwise I’m fantastic.”
“What do you think of the new girl?” Stella asked, nodding towards where Maka was talking to Mac.
“She’s—interesting, I guess,” Flack shrugged, “Didn’t really talk to her long.”
“I think she’ll keep Danny on his toes,” Stella replied, “That could be a good thing.”
“Stella, a woman keeping Danny on his toes is never a good thing,” Flack stated, “Eventually I think these ‘women keeping him on his toes’ are going to gang up on him and murder him.”
“It’s not a matter of them keeping him on his toes,” Harper replied, storming onto the scene, fixing her jacket on her shoulders, “It’s just a matter of them keeping their pants on.” She gripped Flack’s wrist and started dragging him in one direction, “C’mon Flack, we gotta chase down a lead.”
Flack was still nodding in agreement with the part about Danny before Lilly yanked him around by his wrist and dragged him off in another direction.
Stella shook her head, and slowly picked up the pace in order to keep up with them, “Oh, it’s gonna be a long day.”
