Disclaimer: I own nothing to do with the known characters.

A/N: So this is set after Silent Night, not really any spoliers...and I chose to ignore the Mac/Payten thingy. No I don't I just like MeLty.

Lindsay sat at her desk, the only light that shown in the large room was her small desk lamp, illuminating her paperwork. She was humming ‘Santa Baby’ quietly to herself, lost in what she was doing. She had found that humming helped her forget the pain of the day, at least some of it. She finished her report and stood up, stopping when she caught sight of Mac standing and watching her from the doorway. He looked away, slightly embarrassed to be caught staring, then finally walked over to her. Lindsay looked at him, knowing why he was there, dreading what was going to come from this. Mac had that look on his face, the one that differed from his normal one slightly, the one that told her she was in trouble. Lindsay opened her mouth to speak but closed it after finding no words to say.

“Lindsay, we need to talk,” he told her. She looked up at him and nodded, then sat back down at her desk. Mac pulled up a chair and sat looking at her, his expression unreadable. Lindsay finally turned so she was facing him and nodded nervously, slightly angry with herself for the mess she had gotten herself into.

“When I was in college me and my friends went out just to hang out. It seems like it only just happened, when really so much time has passed since the accident,” Lindsay said. She clasped her hands tightly in her lap and chewed on her bottom lip, trying to collect her thoughts.

“We never saw him coming, now that I think back to it I remember looking up and catching sight of him, standing in the doorway with a gun. He began shouting and we all tried to take cover under the tables,” Lindsay’s voice cracked and she sniffed, drying her eyes with the back of her hand.

“There was so much blood, I was so scared,” Lindsay said, tears now streaming freely down her face. “Jake, Sara and Eric didn’t make it, they got shot.” Lindsay hung her head and cried, wishing that Mac would just leave her alone, so she didn’t seem so weak. Mac couldn’t think of any comforting words so he just took her in his arms and held her, letting her cry onto his shoulder. Lindsay clung to his shirt tightly, finally loosing her grip to wrap her arms around his waist. Mac ran his fingers through her hair and let his hand come to a rest on her back, wishing that he knew how to comfort her. Stella was the one that was good at comforting someone when they cried, he never knew what to say, or said the wrong thing.

“I’m sorry Lindsay, that you were put in an uncomfortable spot today,” Mac whispered into her ear. She didn’t say anything, and neither did Mac. After awhile she stopped crying, finally able to control her emotions, realizing that she was in her boss’ arms.

“I’m sorry Mac, now you have a wet spot on your shirt,” Lindsay said, giving him a small smile. Mac shook his head and put his hand on her cheek, forcing her to look at him.

“It’s okay to cry Linds,” he said. Lindsay looked at him, mesmerized by his eyes and the feeling of his fingers on her skin. Mac seemed to realize how close they were and dropped his hand to his side, skimming it across her hand in the process. Lindsay looked at him, then leaned forward and caught his lips in a gentle kiss. She hastily deepened it and wrapped her arms around his neck. Mac was tense for a moment then he returned to kiss and pulled her into his lap. She moved so the she was straddling him and broke the kiss, to look at him.

“Sorry, we shouldn’t be doing this,” Lindsay whispered. Mac put his hand on her cheek and pulled her in for another kiss, getting lost in her touch.

“Lindsay, this isn’t right, I feel like I’m taking advantage of you,” Mac said. He played with a strand of her hair and then looked at her, lacing his fingers behind her back.

“Technically I started it,” Lindsay said, giving him a mischievous smile. He laughed and kissed her again, cupping her cheek with the palm of his hand.

“You know, she does have a point Mac,” Stella said from the doorway. Mac and Lindsay broke apart and hastily stood up, causing Lindsay to lose her balance and fall over.

“Hi Stella, I uhh…I thought you went home,” Lindsay said after Mac had helped her up off of the floor.

“I forgot my jacket,” she said grabbing it off of the back of her chair. Mac nodded and watched her go, turning and looking at Lindsay.

“Sorry Linds,” he mumbled. He slipped an arm around her waist and rubbed his nose against hers then kissed her again.

“Mac, take me home” she asked him, breaking the kiss and looking up at him. He nodded and shut off her desk lamp, then guided her out the door keeping his hand on the small of her back as they walked. They pulled to a stop outside of her apartment building and he looked at her for a moment before leaning in and kissing her.

“Linds, it’s too soon,” he said softly. She shook her head nodded towards her building before speaking.

“Just come up and watch a movie with me,” she offered. Mac nodded and shut off his car then followed her into her apartment, keeping his fingers on the small of her back. Her warmth seeped through the fabric of her shirt and reminded him this was really happening. He shut the door after them and stepped hesitantly inside, looking around at the small living space.

“What do you want to watch? I really don’t have much other than a few chick-flicks and Johnny Depp movies,” Lindsay said, the corners of her lisp twitching slightly.

“Well, how about Secret Window? That’s a good Johnny Depp movie,” Mac said. Lindsay nodded and put the movie in the DVD player, then curled up next to Mac, snuggling into his side. Mac slipped his arm around her waist and kissed the top of her head then turned to the TV and smiled. Lindsay fell asleep within a few moments and Mac laid down next to her and soon fell asleep, holding Lindsay tightly.
