Light in the Darkness
For Sophiestar
You’ll always be the light that guides me through the darkness
The cold breeze felt nice as it blew gently in her red hair. She stared up at the sky and as she does she couldn’t help but be reminded of him. Her sky, her whole world that left her with nothing but this pain. She will never forget the day they had lost him; it was the day her heart shattered into pieces, never to be placed back together again.
flashback
Sora and Riku had been called back into duty by King Mickey when war broke out against light and darkness again. Though she could see it killed Sora to leave his island life and her behind but there was nothing he could do. As long as he held the Keyblade he had to fight to protect the worlds.
Kairi had begged and plead with them not to go but she knew it was hopeless.
“I’m sorry Kairi but the worlds are calling for the warriors of the Keyblade,” Sora said as he looked at Kairi’s tear stained face.
“To hell with the Keyblade and worlds! I need you here with me! Please don’t go! I’m afraid to lose the both of you!” Kairi said holding onto Sora’s shirt fiercely refusing to let go.
“Kairi I’ll be back I promise. But I have to go and help, it’s only a matter of time before they come over here and attack this world too,” Sora said heavily, he hugged the young girl close to him as his own tears started to fall.
“Please Kairi, understand that were leaving to save our home and you,” Riku said as he move in to hugged her too. “We have to go, we have no choice.”
Kairi cried even harder onto Sora shirt staining it with her tears of sadness.
The gummi ship arrived and King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy hop off to see the two teenage boys trying to comfort the young Princess of Heart. Riku let go of Kairi and step away while Sora tried to let her go but she held onto him even tighter.
“Please!! Don’t leave me!!” she cried as she clung onto him tighter. Everyone stare with heavy hearts at the two that were being separated again.
“Kairi please, don’t make this harder than it already is,” Sora said with a pleading voice. “I will come back to you I promise.”
Kairi grip loosen and Sora slowly backed away from her. Her face was filled with sorrow as he and Riku climb onto the Gummi Ship.
“I’ll come back to you I promise!!” Sora yelled as the gummi ship departs from the ground taking flied leaving the islands and her behind.
Kairi’s knee shook and she collapse onto the ground beating her fits onto the sand crying frantically asking for them to come back but deep down she knew that they had to go and fight the darkness from taking over the worlds. It was their destiny.
After a year, Kairi found herself sitting in the exact same spot she had been when they had left the islands again. She waited and prayed everyday that pass that they were closer on coming back. Everyday that they didn’t come back the more worried she became. She needed them to come back.
Then just as she was about to get up from the sand and head back home she saw a gummi ship that resembled the one that had taken Sora and Riku away from her.
It landed on the beach and Kairi hurried toward it but to her disappointment neither Sora nor Riku were there to meet her as the hatch open. It was a blonde guy standing there looking at her with a cigarette in his mouth.
“Are you Kairi?” he asked looking at her.
“Yes, I am. Who are you?” she asked hoping this guy would have answers for her questions.
“I’m Cid Highwind,” he said still looking at her questioning then move away from the hatch and said, “Well get on board so I can take you to Disney Castle.”
She hurried onto ship and then deiced to ask him, “Why are you going to take me to Disney Castle? What happen?”
“Sit down and buckle up,” Cid said ignoring her last questions as he sat don’t on the pilot seat and fired up the engine as he started dispatch from the ground.
But Kairi was determine to get her question answered as she said again more loudly, “What the hell happen that your going to take me to Disney Castle?! Are we losing the war or something?!”
“No we won the war in fact it’s been over for a couple of weeks now,” Cid finally said after a moment.
“So why haven’t Riku or Sora come back to the island,” Kairi ask even though she had a feeling she might know the answer to that.
“…Because they got hurt pretty bad in the last battle,” Cid said with sadness in his voice as he started going into warp mode.
“Their going to be okay right?” she said looking at Cid as the fear grew in her heart.
Cid didn’t answer her or said anything else as they journey to Disney Castle. Once they land in the Castle he open the hatch and Kairi hurried out of the ship calling for Sora and Riku.
She ran through the many halls of Disney Castle past several moving brooms cleaning the halls. Just as she was losing her breath she saw Riku dress in pajamas and a bathrobe. He had his left hand on sling and several cuts around his face. He was limping slightly and there were burn marks on his other hand.
He stared at Kairi with a surprise look on his face. “Kairi…”
Kairi stared at him with fear in her face. “Riku!” She then hurried toward him and without meaning too launched herself on him. Riku cried out in pain as she clung onto his still tender ribs.
“Oh sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you,” she said as she quickly let go of him and backed away.
“It’s okay,” Riku said with a weak smiled. “It would have hurt worst if you would have done that when they were still broken.”
“What happen?” Kairi ask as she stared Riku horrified.
Riku sigh and then said, “Sora and I were fighting in the last battle with the last boss but he wasn’t as easy as we had thought. He caught us by surprise and got us pretty good. But Sora was able to destroy him but at a cost.”
“What do you mean at a cost? Where Sora?” Kairi ask as more fear grew in her heart.
Riku face fell and looked on the floor as he said, “He’s behind that door.” He pointed at the door he had just come out of.
Kairi quickly walk toward the door and open it to reveal a large room. The windows were open letting the sun brighten up the room. Aerith sat on a chair next to a bed were someone very familiar lay.
“Sora!” cried Kairi as she hurried to his side and fell on her knees looking down at the brunette.
“Kairi, what are you doing here?” ask Sora softly. Kairi notice his pale features. His once bright blue eyes were dull. His soft cherry lips were now pale and fissure. He was a deadly pale.
“Why don’t I let the two of you have some alone time,” Aerith said with a weak smile as she got up and left the room.
“Sora?” Kairi ask as tears started to fall as she stared at Sora.
“Hey don’t look so down,” Sora said with a weak smile as he wipes Kairi tears with his left arm.
“W-when are you going to be able to leave and go back to the islands?” Kairi ask even though she knew the answer but she prayed that she was wrong.
“Kairi, I’m not going back to islands,” whispered Sora weakly. He smiled weakly as he said, “I guess I’m not going keep my promise this time.”
“Don’t give up please I’m sure there something out there that can save you,” Kairi said as more tears started to fall.
“Merlin and Aerith have done everything they’ve can,” Sora said gently. “Kairi I want to thank you.”
“For what? I haven’t done anything for you. You always risk your life for me and now that you’re dying there is nothing I can do!” cried Kairi.
“Oh Kairi you’ve done more than you think,” Sora said softly. “You were the light that guides me from the darkness. I’ll always be with you…”
“Sora?” Kairi said looking up at Sora. His eyes were open but they held no life in them anymore. She felt her heart shattered into several different pieces each piece held a different memory of the young brunette she loved so dearly.
