Cave Story

Doukutsu Monogatari

Mimiga Village

"Yamashita Farm"

Confused by the last exchange, Our little robotic hero walked off into the village. All he saw were some small huts, mostly dilapidated and in danger of falling apart, and the occasional wall he had to climb. Eventually, he found a small doorway.

"Yamashita Farm..." He read the sign stuck in the cavern floor. "A farm? In a cave like this?" He chuckled. "I have GOT to see this." As he walked off, a small red bud was slowly blooming.

The farm was rather small, and rather plain. To our friend's surprise, there weren't any vegetables or fruits, or anything you would normally see in a farm. Only fields after fields of flowers. He counted the varieties of colors he have seen in the fields. It had almost every color imaginable.

"Except red." The boy looked up. He saw a small mimiga at a tea stand about his size. The small mimiga stood up and stretched his back. "Heh, kid. I dont think you've ever seen such a large flower collection in the entire world." He stood in front of the boy, barely reaching his waist. "This is my pride and joy!" He stood infront of the fields, stretching out his little paws. The boy looked at the funny sight. Then something hit him.

"Why aren't there any red colored flowers?" The mimiga immedietly froze his actions. His face darkening. He slowly turned to face the boy. "Red flowers. You say?" The boy nodded nervously. "Sigh...come with me." The mimiga walked into the tea shack. The boy reluctantly followed.

The tea shack was small, but cozy. However, the boy had to bend his head in order to fit. The farmer was sitting at a small chair, fit for him. He sighed again, and started to speak.

"My name is Sandaime, I am the farmer here." He pointed towards the fields. "We mimigas thrive on flowers, in other words, we eat flowers to survive." He took out a small flower bud and nibbled on it. "Thus, this farm is neccessary for us to live. However..." He dug around under the shack's table. "There is one small problem, aha!" He took out a small, dusty bottle. Inside was a red flower, resembling a rose, yet with larger petals. The boy stared at it.

"I'm sure you dont know what this is." He shook the bottle. "This is the red flower, it's normal looking to you maybe, but it's the most dangerous thing to us." He stuck the bottle back under the table. "They say...even if you just nibble on the petal. Your blood will boil, and you will fall down dead!" The farmer was making exagerrated motions with his arms. The boy couldn't help sniggering at that. "Sandaime...that...sounds...ridiculous." Sandaime, who looked rather peeved at that remark.

"Don't ridicule our beliefs." He said, and shoved our hero out of the farm. "You'll live longer if you dont."
