All the storys that i have written so far hace been one shots, so when deciding to write this next one, i thought, why not make it one with chapters? cos thats always fun and interesting.
BTW; i dont hate christmas, quite the opposite in fact, i love christmas
Why I hate Christmas
Katie had always hated the holiday season. Christmas simply annoyed her; it was so tacky, fake, and impersonal. The shops were trying to force you into buying useless junk as early as September and if you didn’t, you were seen to be tight and evil and mean.
No, Christmas was not Katie’s time of year. She’d much rather it be the summer. For one thing, they could practice Quidditch more in the summer, without getting frostbite at least.
All of her friends didn’t seem to understand her hatred of Christmas; in fact they all loved it. They were the type of people that sent out pointless Christmas cards in November and then again, for some reason, in December.
She always went home for Christmas, not that home was her favourite place, especially not since her mum had married that awful Richard and he had totally taken over there house, and would even go as far as to sit in her Dad’s old chair. No, she went home because Christmas at Hogwarts was even worse, so many decorations and everyone forced her to be happy and cheerful when she didn’t want to be.
Two weeks before the Christmas holidays were due to start, Katie received a letter from her mother.
Darling Katie, it read
I know how much you want to come home for Christmas, as you always do. But unfortunately, you won’t be able too this year as Richard is taking me on a surprise holiday to Egypt! Can you imagine, darling! It will be fabulous!
Don’t be too upset my love, stay at school or go to a friend’s.
I promise to bring you back a nice present.
Love,
Mum
‘Great’ thought Katie, ‘just great, not only is my mother going to be alone with that freak in a foreign country, but has he booked it for the one time of year that I actually want to be with my mother!’
She was holding back tears as she sat at the dining table in the Great Hall.
“Oh, Katie, what’s the matter?” Asked her best friend, Alicia.
“I can’t go home for Christmas. Stupid Richard’s taking my mum to Egypt.” She was immediately enveloped in a hug.
“Oh! Honey!” Said Alicia into her hair, “I wish you could come to mine, but we’re going to visit my Nana in Australia…”
“It’s ok, Lissie, thanks for offering though. No, I’ll just stay here, at school.”
Although she tried to put a brave face on, people kept asking Katie all day if she was ok. Gosh, she thought, I’ve really gotta work on my acting
When lessons finished, Katie rushed to the Quidditch pitch. The team practice wasn’t until half six but she wanted to be alone, and she knew that no one would be on the field as it was dark and freezing cold.
She ran the whole way there, desperate to get away from the noise of the castle. Desperate to be away from everyone, so that she could just cry.
She honestly had no idea why she was so bothered. Like she had always said, she wasn’t really a Christmassy person, and it wasn’t as if Christmas was her favourite time of year that was gonna be ruined by stupid Richard taking her mum away.
She walked around the pitch trying to find they driest place to sit. She eventually, after three walks around, decided that this was going to be under one of the hoops. She pulled her knees up to her face and cried. And cried. And cried.
She didn’t notice the person sit next to her until they put their arm around her. She jumped a mile up into the air and was about to hit the person when she saw who it was.
It was Oliver Wood, captain of Gryffindor Quidditch team. He was three and a bit years older than her, but that had never really bothered them. They’re professional relationship was great, he completely trusted her when they were in a game and she was the only member of the team who didn’t get constantly yelled at.
Strangely enough, Oliver was one of the few people Katie trusted. She would talk to him, and would often open up to him. In fact he was the only one who fully knew about her father….
