This is just a songfic I made up while listening to this song (which, in my opinion, is one of the freakin’ best on the planet). Enjoy! Pairing is Feathertail & Crowfeather.
Feathertail looked down at the forest with a sad sigh. Crowfeather had moved on. Now he had Leafpool, and she could tell that they both truly loved each other. They were planning to run away together, and whenever Feathertail looked in on Crowfeather’s dreams, they were filled with images of Leafpool. He barely thought of anyone or anything else. His mind was filled with swirling images of the pretty tabby.
Did you ever mean the things you said
That forever you’d be mine
I’m trying hard to understand
Why you left it all behind
Now the past just seems so far away
But time cannot ease my pain
In my mind I still see your face
Why did it have to end this way
She padded silently away from the pool. She would just have to accept it; Crowfeather didn’t love her anymore. Feathertail had only told Leafpool that she didn’t mind her being with Crowfeather because Silverstream had made her do so.
Suddenly she sat up. Even though she couldn’t change his mind, she could still visit him in a dream. Waiting for Crowfeather to fall asleep, Feathertail paced anxiously around the StarClan Telling-Place. (A/N I made that up on the spot, okay? It’s where StarClan goes to talk to the living cats) Finally, Crowfeather let sleep overtake him and sank into a pile of moss in the WindClan warrior’s den. At last, Feathertail thought. I haven’t talked to him since I died. Quietly, she stepped down to the forest floor and entered his dream.
It feels cold inside
Without you by my side
Searching for an answer
A reason why
It feels cold inside
Without you by my side
Longing for you day and night
The smoky tom’s eyes flew wide with shock when he saw a silver and black striped she-cat walk delicately into his dream. “Feathertail,” he breathed.
“Hello, Crowfeather,” she murmured. “I haven’t seen you for so long.”
Suddenly Crowfeather seemed weighed down with guilt. “Feathertail, I… Leafpool… I couldn’t…” she cut him off.
“Crowfeather, I already know. I just came to say…” Feathertail paused. She couldn’t tell him not to be with Leafpool, could she? After all, if she really loved him, she would be glad to know that he was happy. Only a self-centered, un-caring piece of crowfood would do that. Feathertail took a deep breath, then continued, “I just came to say that I’m glad that you’re happy. I know that you really love Leafpool, and I’m happy that you’ve found another cat to make you happy.”
Now your heart belongs to someone else
But I’m still hanging on to hope
So many answers I can’t find
Why you left me all alone
Time stood still the day you walked away
Life will never be the same
I wonder if you ever cared for me
Or was I just another fool
Before he could say another word, Feathertail whipped around and raced away from the tom she loved. She didn’t want him to see the tears streaming down her face. She didn’t want him to know the pain she was going through.
In StarClan, Silverstream pressed against her daughter’s side to try to comfort her, but Feathertail was inconsolable. All she could say was, “He’s gone, he’s gone.” Even though Feathertail was truly glad that Crowfeather had found love again, she was in agony knowing that she could never be with Crowfeather. She secluded herself from the other StarClan warriors, and settled down to watch the cat she had died for. He would never know how much she missed him.
He would never know how much she loved him.

Well, that’s all, folks! Aw, who am I kidding, I cried when I was writing this!
