Hi People!! Well what can I say? This is my first Lord Of The Rings fan fiction and I can’t wait to receive your reviews to see what you think. Since I love Eowyn and Legolas I just couldn’t help but write about them since I think there should be more fan fiction about them around. Well read on and tell me what you think about the first chapter of Finding Love Through Fate!
Eowyn sighed, unhappily as she walked around the great halls of Rohan almost as
if she was in sleep. Her body ached with tiredness for she was exhausted from a hard day’s work of fighting off Orcs whom had tried to cross the borders of her uncle’s lands and was about to collapse any moment. Today she had fought beside her brother even though he had issued firmly that she stay behind. But Eowyn’s fate was tied to battles and many men from the Rohirrim and other lands were amazed by the young woman’s skill with a sword and blade. They were also impressed that such a woman would have the independence and skill to defend herself against anyone or anything that dared to challenge in these times were taught to be obedient and respectful and to do whatever any male told them to do but Eowyn defied those laws. She was a woman of independence and opinions and would not let any man overrule her.
But inside past the fake smiles and laughter, everyday seemed like a burden to her and Eowyn wondered whether she could have enough strength to live each one. But she was a shield maiden of Rohan and she knew that she had to be strong for her uncle, brother and even her people so she tried not to let her emotions take too much control of her.
It was dark outside now and night had shadowed the land. Ah, Nighttime. Nighttime had always been when Eowyn liked to think. She found the stars and the moon quite soothing to her soul and somehow she felt safe as though she had a guardian angel watching her.
Quickly her thoughts went to Aragorn, who was now King of Gondor and was soon to marry Arwen, an elvish princess from Rivendell. She sighed once again as she thought of all the painful memories that she had shared with him. True, Eowyn still loved him but she knew that he would never return those feelings. His heart already belonged to the Elvish princess soon to be Queen even before she had even known him. Thinking about him just made tears come to her eyes and she didn’t bother to wipe them away for she knew that more would come.
But she had no time to think about Aragorn right now who was in the past. She had to focus on the present which was currently Faramir of Ithilien. She knew that Faramir loved her for he had said it to her every opportunity he had had. But somehow Eowyn doubted their relationship. She loved Faramir but she felt that something was missing like an open space that couldn’t be filled. Of course they spent long hours of time with each other but there was something that Eowyn was unsure of.
But then her thoughts went to Legolas, the strong, handsome and courageous elf that had fought beside Aragorn and the dwarf Gimli. He and Gimli had been visiting Edoras very often since Aragorn was busy with ruling his kingdom and they had both asked about her, bravely concerned. Eowyn liked Legolas for he was a great friend to her and knew that she had loved Aragorn. He could always see through her though no matter how much she tried to hide it. Gimli was always at her service as well beside his elven friend and the two never ceased to amuse her.
Eowyn was just finished with thinking when Eomer, her older brother walked out onto the balcony on which she was standing, interrupting her current thoughts.
“Sister” he said. “Lord Faramir has returned and is currently at the Palace gates ready to receive you in the throne room alone”
“Thank you, Eomer” Eowyn said, trying to be happy. Eomer bowed and then left the room. Eowyn had noticed how Eomer had emphasized the word alone and she shook her head. Ever since they were children Eomer had had this fierce brotherly protectiveness about her which annoyed Eowyn to no end.
After he left at once Faramir came into the room, his dark cloak bellowing behind him as he walked towards her, her back towards him.
“My lord” Eowyn said, turning around when she heard light footsteps.
“My lady Eowyn” Faramir said, lovingly. “I have returned”
“I am so glad that you were not wounded in any way imaginable” Eowyn said, coming closer to him. “I feared for your safety”
“You were worried about me?” Faramir asked, holding her close.
“As always” Eowyn replied. “I worried for each passing day hour after hour. My dreams haunted me at night when I dreamt that you would never come back to me.” She embraced him back, loving him close to her.
“Well then your worrying is done” Faramir stated. “For I will not leave you any longer than I already have. I love you, Eowyn.”
“A-and I love you as well” Eowyn replied. “I missed you while you were away, my lord. I thought—”And before Eowyn could say another word Faramir’s lips were already on hers. Eowyn quickly kissed him back and then pulled away. Faramir buried his face into Eowyn’s soft hair and sighed, clearly content.
“It has been so long” he murmured. “So long Eowyn and I have a question to ask of you. I promised myself that I would ask this of you as soon as I arrived back”
“What is it?” Eowyn asked. “Only ask it and it shall be done.” Faramir stroked her cheek and then looked deep into her eyes. All of a sudden he reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden ring studded with rubies. Eowyn’s eyes widened as she realized what he was about to ask her.
“Eowyn, fair maiden of Rohan” he began. “I have always loved you ever since the very moment when I had seen your beautiful face and I realized, as soon as I saw you that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. You have taken my heart and I only wish that your heart will become mine. Please, will you marry me?”
“Marry you?” she asked, in surprise. “But my lord---it is--It is so soon”
“Is that a no?” Faramir asked, fearfully.
“No, my lord” Eowyn replied, embracing him. “I-I just need some time to think about it”
“To think about it?” Faramir asked, softly. “What is there to think about, my lady?”
“Just please, Faramir” Eowyn begged. “Please give me some time, I beg of you. It is a big decision that I must make.”
“Do you love me?” Faramir asked, suddenly pulling back to look at her.
“Of course I love you” Eowyn breathed. “Whatever made you think that I did not?” She looked into Faramir’s eyes and saw the hurt and confused look that he had. He didn’t know about Eowyn’s past with Aragorn so he didn’t understand how she felt.
“Never mind” Faramir replied. “Alright. I will give you some time. But please come back to me with your answer”
“Of course” Eowyn agreed. “I will, I promise. I-I love you” “What happened while I was away?” he asked, pulling her close again so she could feel his steady heartbeat.
“I have relied on my close companions for company, my lord” Eowyn replied.
“Whom did you rely on?” Faramir asked, curiously.
“Gimli and Legolas. An elf and a dwarf that had fought beside—Aragorn”
“Legolas?” Faramir asked for he knew the man well. “The Prince of the Mirkwood realm and son of Thranduil?”
“Yes” she replied. “He has visited the Golden Hall everyday. But we are just close companions and—nothing more”
“Do you have feelings for any of them?” he asked carefully.
“How can you say that?” Eowyn asked, shocked and a little angry. She turned his head to look at her. “I already told you that we are just close companions. Your doubt in my love for you saddens me”
“Forget that I mentioned it” Faramir replied. “I did not mean to upset you. I-I just wanted you to love me first and foremost. I am sorry, Eowyn if I seem insecure. It is just that I love you so much I fear someone will take you from me”
“You did not upset me at all but never fear, Faramir. Nothing and no one will take me away from you.” A moment of silence followed and then Faramir spoke, stroking her soft cheek.
“I shall return later when you have your answer, my lady” and then he left as swift as he had come, kissing her one last time. Eowyn sighed and sat down on a nearby chair. She knew that she loved Faramir but she still couldn’t find what she needed to fill in the gap to her soul. She didn’t even know why she hesitated when she tried to tell Faramir that she loved him and when saying Aragorn’s name.
Eowyn quickly ran outside, bursting the doors open to see the dark heavens shining down upon her. The cool air flew around her golden hair, making her cheeks pink with excitement. She gave a small smile and then turned the corner where she saw whom she expected. The prince of Mirkwood, Legolas! Eowyn surveyed him. She had always thought him handsome with his long shining blond hair and his irresistible blue eyes. He turned around just in time to see her walking towards him. She was so perfect the way she moved and the way she looked at him. Legolas regarded her as more than just a friend, secretly but Eowyn never knew for it would be considered scandalous to love the King’s niece, especially Théoden.
“My lady Eowyn” he said, softly in surprise. “Why have you come?”
“I should be asking you the same question” Eowyn replied, calmly. “What are you doing outside at this time of night, my lord?”
“Legolas” he corrected. “And I came here to think. For peace and quiet.” Legolas turned to look at her but then found that he could not look away. She was beautiful and Legolas’s heart angered when he found that Faramir loved her and Eowyn might return his feelings.
“I did as well” she replied, standing closely next to him with a shy smile. She stared at the ground and then sighed, her mind in turmoil.
“Something ails you” Legolas spoke up. “What is it that troubles your heart, my lady if it may not be too bold to ask?”
“Lord Faramir proposed to me tonight” Eowyn confessed to the elf. “And…I…..I told him that I needed some time to think about it. I am so troubled about whether I should accept his proposal or decline it”
“Do you love him, my lady?” Legolas asked, hoping that she’d say no.
“Yes” Eowyn admitted while Legolas’s heart clenched. “But I feel as if there is something missing in our relationship. I know that Lord Faramir loves me but…I feel as if there is a gap within my soul that cannot be filled”
“Follow what your heart is telling you” Legolas advised. “Your heart never lies, Lady Eowyn” There was a moment of silence after that when Eowyn knew not what to say. She and Legolas just constantly looked up at the stars not saying anything and constantly staring at each other once in a while.
“Aragorn and Arwen will soon be married” Legolas said, carefully for he knew that Eowyn had loved Aragorn but had her feelings turned down. He felt pain for the girl and thought that somehow he could help her. But while he was helping to console her pain, he had ended up having feelings for Eowyn that he could not reveal. Not even to Aragorn or Gimli, his two best friends.
Eowyn’s eyes filled with tears at the news but she tried to hide it, even though Legolas had already found out. Eowyn usually never shed her tears because she was a strong woman that never cried but tonight she felt as if her defensive wall within her heart had crumbled. Legolas turned around and faced her.
“My lady, Eowyn” he said with concern. “Are you alright?” He stroked Eowyn’s cheek with one hand while Eowyn avoided his eyes not letting her tears be shed. Wanting to make her smile again, Legolas did one thing that he had always wanted to do. He enveloped her in his embrace, soothing her, whispering to her through her ear and taking the time to cherish her while she was in his arms. He did this for a few minutes and then Eowyn pulled back, her eyes saddened.
“Send them my best wishes and my congratulations” Eowyn whispered.
“I shall and I apologize” Legolas said, solemnly. “I did not mean to hurt you. I should not have—”
“No” Eowyn interrupted, quietly and backing away because she knew that she could not hold in her tears any longer. “You did nothing to hurt me” and then she ran away without saying goodbye leaving Legolas to stare after her while she ran. After Eowyn left, Legolas’s heart felt miserable to the fact that he had mentioned Aragorn and Arwen married. What was he thinking? She was already hurt enough so why did he have to make it worse? Sighing, he summoned his horse Arod and then rode off into the night, making his goal by apologizing again to Eowyn tomorrow morning. Someway or somehow he’d win her heart even if Faramir loved her.
The next morning Eowyn woke up to see that Legolas was waiting for her in the throne room which was the front hall. He had requested a private audience with her and he had not taken Gimli along with him. Eowyn dressed into a pure white gown laced in gold and then appeared at the front hall where Legolas was awaiting.
“Legolas” she acknowledged. “What are you doing here?”
“Lady Eowyn” Legolas replied. “I-I came to apologize”
“For what exactly?” Eowyn asked, as Legolas came closer so they were exactly a meter apart. “You need not apologize for anything”
“For hurting you last night” Legolas explained. “I should not have mentioned the situation between Aragorn and Arwen for certain reasons. I just thought that you should have known that as a fact. I am sorry though if it hurt you”
“My lord Legolas do not come to apologize” Eowyn said looking down but was surprised to find Legolas putting a hand on her chin and raising her face so that she would look into his blue eyes.
“No” he said. “I am apologizing because what I did was wrong and I am sorry for it.”
“There is nothing to be sorry for” Eowyn explained. “Aragorn is the past and I have decided to focus on the present. It hurts me like a knife through my heart but…I know that this is what I must do”
“My lady, are you sure?” Legolas asked.
“Quite” Eowyn replied. “No more will I be weak. Thank you for coming down to Rohan to visit. I hope that I will see you again.” Legolas bowed and smiled.
“You shall” he replied. “If that is what my lady wishes.” Eowyn was about to say more when suddenly Faramir walked into the room and briefly went up to her, smiling at Legolas.
“Legolas” he said, happily. “I never expected to see you again. How have you been?”
“Very well” Legolas responded, smiling as Faramir put a hand onto his shoulder while he returned the gesture.
“Thank you for keeping Eowyn company while I was away” he said appreciatively. “I worry less when she is in the hands of a good companion”
“You’re welcome, my lord” he replied. “It was no problem at all”
“Just Faramir will suffice” Faramir said, embracing Eowyn. “And I am sure it was not.”
Legolas’s heart tightened when he saw Faramir but he was determined not to show it.
“Another time, Eowyn?” he asked while Faramir released her.
“Of course” Eowyn replied. “Come back anytime you wish.” Legolas bowed one more time and then left, closing the door behind him, in anger and sadness. As he was walking out King Théoden came down a hallway and started walking towards him. Legolas gave a small bow and turned to leave but Théoden stopped him.
“Legolas!” he called. Legolas turned around and bowed his head respectfully.
“My lord” he acknowledged.
“If you wouldn’t mind I was wondering if I may speak to you in private, please”
“Of course, my lord” Legolas said, nodding and following after King Théoden who had led him into a private room which seemed to be his office, for there were ancient scrolls everywhere.
“Sit down” King Théoden said, motioning towards a seat while he sat down himself. Legolas obeyed and then waited for the King to speak.
“You have been visiting my niece, Eowyn very often haven’t you?” he asked. Legolas nodded.
“Yes, my lord. I have,” Legolas replied.
“Why?” King Théoden asked.
“Because I worry about her” Legolas confessed. “I know what had happened between her and Aragorn and I understand the pain that she is feeling”
“Ah...yes. Her pain. Eowyn suffers from pain to the heart and I have tried to help her overcome it by getting her acquainted with other men. The men have had little effect on her though for she loves none of them. Men have always loved Eowyn and she has always returned their feelings but…Aragorn was different. I had never seen Eowyn so adrift and happy when he was around her”
“I see” Legolas replied. “Well after one has suffered heartbreak it is, shall I say, difficult for them to open up to other people”
“Of course. But men have always loved Eowyn,” King Théoden repeated. “But—Eowyn refuses to let anyone else into her heart at the moment. I have tried so hard but alas Aragorn has had a huge impact on her heart”
“I know, my lord” Legolas replied. “I see her day by day and she is closing up her true feelings and hiding her emotions”
“I know” King Théoden replied. “I worry about her for it was I who took her and her brother in after her dear mother and Father had passed. My blood runs through her veins, Legolas. She is one of the closest kin to me.”
“I am happy to hear that family is the main importance to you, my lord” Legolas responded. King Théoden nodded and stayed silent for a few minutes.
“Now this may seem sudden but tell me Legolas, do you harbor any feelings for Eowyn?” King Théoden asked, surveying him closely. Legolas looked at him in shock.
“Are my feelings for Eowyn that obvious?” he thought.
“My lord, I-I have only regarded Eowyn only as a close companion” Legolas lied.
“Your eyes tell me a different story” King Théoden remarked. “I see the way you look at her, Legolas. I think I know what feelings you have for her.” Legolas shook his head determined to hide his feelings with a straight face and was about to say a word when Théoden continued speaking.
“But do not worry” King Théoden continued. “For I shall tell no one about this matter.”
“My lord” Legolas began firmly. “Eowyn has proved a loyal friend. But that is all I feel for her. She is just a companion to me as well as I am to her. She loves Faramir after all does she not?”
“I would not be so sure about that” King Théoden confessed. “My niece is in turmoil, Legolas and I want you to do something for me. Protect her and be a companion. I know that she trusts you the most. She would not even speak to Eomer, her own brother or to me, her own uncle”
“I understand, my King” Legolas replied not showing emotion. “But may I ask a question?”
“Of course” Théoden replied.
“How can you be so sure that she does not love Lord Faramir?” he asked curiously.
“Faramir made an offer of marriage to her” Théoden explained. “And Eowyn replied that she needed some time to think about it. If she really loved him then she would have accepted right away. She would not need time to think about it”
“Yes of course,” Legolas replied.
“Do you love her?” King Théoden asked. “And do not think of lying to me, Legolas.” Legolas just stayed silent avoiding the good King’s eyes.
“As I suspected” King Théoden answered. “I see everything, Legolas. Do not take me for a fool.” He then laughed and then waved his hand as Legolas tried to protest.
“I could never think of my lord as a fool” Legolas responded, smiling in return. “But—”
“You are dismissed, Legolas” he said, interrupting the elf. “And remember this conversation for I see more than my people take me for”
“Thank you, my lord” Legolas said, bowing and then closing the door behind him.
