Rescue Me 1
Demonic: Well, I’ve decided to edit Rescue Me. I’ve recently read it through and thought it was atrocious! Not that I hadn’t realized that before, but I wanted to know where to start over! But now I have everything figured out! I’m going to start over! I’ve planned everything so much now that I’ve even planned the characters’ breathing...exaggeration but you can forgive me right::cough::Sasuke can’t breathe until Chapter 12. ::cough:: Right, moving on. Moving on.
Her orders were simple. The information was secret. The meeting place was secure. The plan had gone through smoothly. The risks were not considerably high. Nothing left any indication that she was being followed. She was an able kunoichi. She was strong. But why is she in this predicament?!
She sighed morosely once more as she numbly shook the heavy chains that encircled her slim wrists. How long had she been here? Had Tsunade-sama sent a squad after her yet? No. The chances of Konoha finding her in time were slim to none. From what her captors had let her overhear, they were going to perform the surgery that will remove the Byakugan from her tomorrow. How would Tsunade-sama ever connect her disappearance in Stone to her current location—Cloud? She laughed bitterly under her breath. There was no chance. She winced as the sound of her hoarse voice bounced off the high cell walls. She’d have to place the curse seal on herself, and then blind herself as well. All this must be done to protect her former clan’s secrets...no matter what. No matter what. Hyuuga Hinata slipped into unconsciousness.
A sudden explosion caught her attention as Hinata’s head bobbed up groggily. Luminous silver eyes darted around the small cell. Various shouts bounced off the walls outside in the hallways. What was going on? Had Konoha found her? No. She couldn’t sense any familiar chakra signatures. This was most likely a raid from another village. They wouldn’t save her. She lowered herself against the wall. She’ll have to conserve her energy for the sealing. The screams went on with increasing volume. She forced herself to tune it out and focus. They were not important. They were Cloud, her village’s enemy.
Swiftly, the door opened and slammed against the wall. Light poured in rapidly, momentarily blinding her. A tall shadow blocked out the light. The ever present screams faded away as silence took hold of them. Her heart stopped for a split-second before everything began to move again. The loud screams and shouts resumed. But this time, Hinata could hear all too well what the words were. “Protect the Hyuuga, or kill her before they take her!” She refused to move...or rather, her body protested against the mere thought of it. She opted to stare instead. Not at the stranger, or at his spinning red eyes. She stared past him, seeing nothing. Although her heart was racing, she felt calm, detached. When he made his way over to her, she didn’t move. Her eyes were still unfocused, and she didn’t scream. Screaming wouldn’t have done her situation any good, for this was Uchiha Sasuke. Naruto-kun’s best friend...and a traitor to the village.
Wet cool fingers marked a trail along the side of her cheek. The metallic smell of blood clung to his hand. She didn’t flinch, but she did move her hand to wipe at the blood, but she knew that she had made it worse. The clanging of her chains echoed loudly between them. Once more, they were thrown into silence. Only their breathing could be heard. “Can you talk, Hyuuga?” He asked quietly, his expression hidden in the dark. She didn’t bother to activate her Byakugan to see it.
“Yes...who is this?” She responded, although she already knew.
For a split second, he paused. She could feel the fast paced thoughts run through his head. For a while, she thought he wasn’t going to answer, but then, “Uchiha Sasuke. Are you able to see?”
“Not now...”Hinata answered evenly, for it was true. She did not have enough chakra to use the Byakugan and it was too dark to see otherwise.
“Aa...hold still.” He murmured softly into her ear before all went black.
RANDOM STUFF: Can anyone tell me what this new beta-reader thing is about?
Hinata awoke with a start. Her eyes! It was dark! She couldn’t see! Slowly, she raised her hand to her face, fearing what she may find. She felt the fabric that was blocking her eyes. It was wrapped securely around her head. Calmly, she patted her hands around her. Her hands met the soft fabric of blankets and the coolness of a pillow. Where was she? What had Uchiha Sasuke done? She moved her legs experimentally, and deducted that nothing was wrong. She had not been hindered a cripple to prevent her from leaving. What was going to happen to her then? Was she in Sound? She sent through a minimal amount of chakra throughout her body to check for an additional damage that might have been bestowed upon her while she was out. There was none. Her injuries from Cloud were still there as well. She had been left alone. Was this Sound? Why was she allowed to live? She had to see the base, in case there was ever need to run. Summoning a good portion of her chakra, she activated her bloodline limit. Byakugan. Immediately, she saw through her bandages, the walls, everyone and everything. She was astounded with the size of the base and the sheer number of occupants in it. Unless she was mistaken, Uchiha Sasuke had brought her home. Definitely not to meet his parents, Hinata joked dryly. Resounding footsteps neared her location and Hinata immediately deactivated her bloodline limit. Just in time too, for as soon as she did, the door opened. Sitting up, Hinata turned her head towards the door but kept quiet. The door was shut firmly but gently, making a tiny ‘click’ before two pairs of feet walked towards her.
“How are you feeling, Hyuuga-san?” A low male voice asked politely. “It has been quite some time since I have visited Konoha; please allow me to introduce myself.” Hinata did not respond. “My name is Kabuto. I will be your guide for your entire stay here. The girl beside me is Hisa. She has been chosen by Sasuke-kun to keep you company. She is also your maid.”
Hinata did not speak. The silence in the room was stifling. Feeling the urge to speak out, Hisa said in a soft, subservient voice, “Hisa is very honoured to be able to serve you, Mistress Hyuuga-sama. Hisa is young and useless, but will try to please Mistress.” Throughout all this, Hinata did not move or made any indication that she was listening.
Simply ignoring Hinata’s chilly silence, Kabuto moved on. “Will you tell me who you are, Hyuuga-san? The Hyuuga clan has so many members, I’m afraid it’s rather hard to keep track.” And why were you in Cloud, and why were you brought here? Kabuto thought but did not say.
“I am sure that you Oto-nins have many spies lodged in our midst. I am sure you know most, if not all, of Konoha’s shinobi.” Hinata answered softly, her voice matching Hisa’s in volume.
Kabuto paused before chuckling, “It would be better if I heard you introduce yourself, Hyuuga-san. Or, we can send your corpse back to Konoha for identification.” His tone was calm and amiable; however, Hinata knew he was not someone to trifle with.
“You can if you want.” Hinata said simply. “I am surprised that I am alive as it is.”
“Should I kill you know?” Kabuto contemplated aloud as he reached for a kunai.
“Kabuto-sama, please stop this!” Hisa broke through the tense atmosphere. “Sasuke-sama had specifically asked for Hyuuga-sama to be looked after. He would not be pleased if Hyuuga-sama was endangered.”
“We were just playing around.” Kabuto answered innocently as his hand stopped reaching for a kunai. “Weren’t we, Hyuuga-san?”
“Of course...” Hinata agreed, if you say so, that is. “My name is Hyuuga Hinata, Kabuto-san.”
“I will be able to tell if you’re lying or not.” Kabuto warned.
“That is only if I’m lying.” Hinata responded evenly. She was in a complete disadvantage...and Kabuto knew it.
“Please rest, Hinata-san.” Kabuto said. “Sasuke-kun will be returning shortly from training. Please take care.” He left without another word, leaving behind Hisa.
An odd silence ruled between the two of them before Hinata gave in. “Hisa, right?”
“Yes, Mistress?” Hisa shifted and Hinata sensed her walking closer towards her, but stopped a few paces to her left.
“Who else has been here before me?” She asked quietly.
“No one.” Hisa responded with surety. “No one but you, Mistress. You are the first.”
“...So it is not a habit for Sound to capture another village’s captives and treat them as a guest?”
“It is not.” Hisa said plainly. “May I say something plainly mistress?”
“Yes.”
“Your-your injuries...and you look so—not that I mean that you are not beautiful, Mistress—it’s just...” Hisa trailed off hesitantly.
Hinata ran her fingertips through her hair and grimaced in its oiliness. “My injuries will heal.” Hinata said dismissively. She did not want to risk being put unconscious behind enemy lines, nor does she want to have her blind ruse uncovered.
“Sasuke-sama would not like—”
“—to see me in this state?” Hinata cut Hisa off. She had dealt with her fair share of excessively eager servants, and knew exactly what she should do. She should co-operate. “Well, I want my injuries left alone...but I will consent to a bath?” She let a playful smile slide into place on her face. She extended a shaky hand towards Hisa and Hisa obligingly took it and lead her carefully to the door.
RANDOM STUFF: Why am I not updating? Do I have a death wish? The answer is...mrhmmmrhmm...HMPH!
The hallways were silent. If Hinata hadn’t seen the large amount of Sound-nins residing in the base right now, she would’ve thought that she and Hisa were completely alone. The silence continued as she went through the process of removing grime, blood, and any other unwanted substances from her person. After bathing and washing her hair, Hinata was ready to leave, but was stopped by Hisa.
“I’m afraid that you’re not ready yet, Mistress.” Hisa said grimly.
“I’m clean.” Hinata protested as she tried to raise herself up but was pushed down by Hisa firmly but gently.
“Mistress, please understand.” Hisa said in exasperation. “Sasuke-sama—”
“Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke,” Hinata muttered, cutting Hisa off angrily. She was tired, she was defenceless, and she was hungry. All they ever do is talk about Sasuke. “Why are you taking so much effort, Hisa? Uchiha Sasuke might decide to kill me.”
An affronted gasp came from Hisa. “Mistress! Sasuke-sama would never disobey—”
“Disobey?” Hinata repeated. But she could tell that Hisa wasn’t going to talk. She’ll have to figure it out herself. Hinata sulked darkly as she let Hisa continue on. By the end of Hisa’s ministrations, she had shrivelled up to a prune.
RANDOM STUFF: ...By now, you all probably realize that I’m using these Random Stuff thingies as page breaks since they usually don’t work for me.
Hinata had been sitting in her room for what seemed like hours. Hinata’s patience was running low. She had wanted some food, but Hisa had insisted that they wait for Sasuke. But that had been so long ago, and Sasuke had not made an appearance. Usually, she would’ve lasted longer without food, but she was injured, tired, and hadn’t eaten for quite some time—who knew that Cloud-nins had a fetish for starving their captives? Hisa had begun pacing a long time ago and had been getting on her nerves. “Hisa, why are you so anxious?”
“Yes?” Hisa snapped up to look in her direction. “What can I help you with, Mistress?” Hinata did not miss Hisa’s evasive answer to her question. She had immediately brought a question to herself to avoid answer her question.
“I’m hungry. Would you please bring me some food?” Hinata sensed Hisa’s unwillingness to leave her alone. “I know you’re feeling a little cooped up in here, Hisa, and I am hungry. Go on now.” As soon as she heard the door click shut behind Hisa, Hinata sighed.
Suddenly, the door opened. Hinata turned around to the direction of the door. “H-Hisa?”
“Not even close.” A low voice answered her. Without even realizing it, she already knew that the intruder was Uchiha Sasuke. “Are you really blind, Hyuuga, or are you playing with me?”
“Uchiha Sasuke.” Hinata breathed out inaudibly. He doesn’t sound hostile, but with him, she wouldn’t be able to tell until she was dead. “Is that you?”
“Aa.”
“W-what a-are you doing here?” She had not expected to see him so soon. After the supposed hours that he had forced her to wait, it wouldn’t be much on his guilty conscience to have her wait longer.
“In case you haven’t noticed. This is my room.”
Hinata blinked, but behind her bandages, none could tell. Before she was able to say anything, the door burst open. “Mistress! Sasuke-sama!” Hisa slammed through the door, nearly tripping over her own feet and spilling the contents of the heavy platter in her arms. Hinata heard the clatter of dishes as they hit the floor. She winced when Hisa’s distressed wails filled the air. She could feel Uchiha Sasuke’s anger and annoyance radiate off him in controlled, barely noticeable waves.
Neither one of them made a move to help Hisa. Hinata would have, if she wasn’t under the pretence that she was blind. “Get up.” Sasuke finally said coldly. “Clean this mess up, and get her another room.”
Hisa was already cleaning up the mess, if the clanging of the dishes as they were put away was any indication. She, however, disagreed with getting Hinata another room. “Mistress Hinata has been assigned this room by Kabuto-sama, Sasuke-sama.”
“Really...” he drawled. He was obviously not impressed. Hinata could hear his dark mutterings across the room. He stalked off without another word to either occupants of the room, bringing his angry waves with him.
“Are you alright?” Hinata called out softly to Hisa.
“Y-yes, Mistress.” Hisa replied shakily. “I assure you, Sasuke-sama is a very amiable person once you get to know him. It must be the weather.” Hinata shrugged noncommittally, although Hisa’s defence of Sasuke did put her on the edge.
“After he treated you like something disgusting stuck on his sandal?” Hinata demanded calmly.
Hisa paused before answering. “Sasuke-sama may be coarse around the edges, but deep down inside, I’m sure that there is something there.” The only thing that stopped Hinata from laughing out loud, was her manners. One thing really bothered her though, why did Kabuto specifically assign her Sasuke’s room. There was no chance that it was a mess up.
RANDOM STUFF: BoogaWoogaLooga Hot Tea.
This was not a mess up. Sasuke growled irately as he headed for Kabuto’s lab. “Kabuto!” He called out at the door but was ignored. He knew he was ignored because Kabuto always was in his lab. Always. “Kabuto!” There was still no reply, shaking his head angrily, he barged inside. “Kabuto.”
“Ah, Sasuke-kun, I didn’t hear you call. My apologies.” Kabuto smiled good-naturedly as Sasuke snarled.
“Get her out of my chamber.” Kabuto did not need to be reminded on who she is.
“Unfortunately, Sasuke-kun, I can’t do that.” Kabuto said as he got up. His chair scraped loudly against the floor. “Hinata-san, if that is her name, is an unexpected visitor here. Orochimaru-sama does not know of her taking residence here. Until she has been formally recognized, she must stay with you. As well, we do not have the space or the time to find the space that is unoccupied for her. Until further notice, she will have to stay with you Sasuke-kun. Think of yourself, as a gaoler, or a babysitter.”
“Hn.” Sasuke grunted as he crossed his arms. “When will the arrangements be ready?”
“I assure you, Sasuke-kun, as soon as possible.” Sasuke left the lab without another word to Kabuto and headed out to the training fields.
RANDOM STUFF: I’m tired! I finally realized, after spending an hour on my French Project, that I needed to do it on a piece of BRISTOL BOARD! It’s due tomorrow morning and I’m screwed.
Hinata jerked her head up groggily as she heard someone enter the room. She was lying contentedly on one side of the large bed, a hand rubbing her flat yet pleasantly full stomach. It couldn’t be Hisa, for she had left recently to the kitchen after she finished eating. Hinata figured that it must be Sasuke. As the Uchiha approached Hinata, he sat on the opposite side of the bed.
“U-Uchiha-san?”
“Aa.” Hinata remained still. She listened closely as Sasuke stalked irately around the room like a caged lion. She was so quiet and with a good portion of her restored chakra directed into her ears, she could hear the even rhythm of Sasuke’s heartbeat. Finally, it was Sasuke who spoke. “At least you keep silent.” Was that a compliment? Hinata merely smiled as she thought of the times the Hyuuga elders told her that she was too silent.
“S-Silence is not always a g-good thing, Uchiha-san.” Hinata whispered quietly.
“I like it.” Sasuke said airily. “Until further notice, you will be residing here as well.” The thought of being confined with Uchiha Sasuke brought a shiver up her spine, although Hinata refused to shiver physically. Whether he was oblivious or simply ignoring her, Sasuke continued on, “You take this side, and I’ll take this side.” He let out a moderate spark of chakra on his side of the bed. Hinata noticed this. He does not want any physical contact.
She felt cold air seep in as the blankets were lifted before a warm body slipped in beside her. “Good night, Uchiha-san.”
“Hn.”
Hours have gone by, and Hinata couldn’t sleep. She was too fearful to turn or move in bed, in fear of waking up an already pissed off Uchiha. She was also too scared for herself to sleep. She never did feel at ease while on missions. She usually never slept until she got home. She was unaccustomed to different surroundings. It had taken her quite some while to get accustomed to her new flat when she moved out two years ago when she was sixteen. She’s facing the same problem now. Not to worry, she thought, I’ll be out of this place before long. With these reassuring thoughts repeated in her head like a steadfast mantra, she drifted off to sleep.
Demonic: Wooooo! Although it’s finished now, my internet is currently gone for some time. I’ll have this posted up soon…
