Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
I partially got this idea from my aunt. She told me that one of her friends was a doctor at a mental institute, and she met her husband there, he was her bodyguard. So, I thought that would make an interesting fic. Of course, that’s not all that will be going into this story.
Warnings: Cutting, possible death, possible torture, possible rape, yaoi, future lemons, angst, probably more, and I will list them if I think about them.
Couples: SasuNaru, some smaller pairings too. If you’d like to see a particular pairing, mention it, and I may add it in.
Uchiha Sasuke owned the largest corporation in Tokyo, Japan. The Uchiha industries. He had gained complete ownership, after his elder brother, Uchiha Itachi went insane and slaughtered their entire family. Sasuke was only fifteen at the time, and he wanted Itachi to suffer and rot in jail. But at the time of the court hearing, fate didn’t seem to be on his side. Itachi pleaded mentally unstable. So, instead of being sent to jail, he was sent to a mental hospital.
No one ever told him where Itachi was sent, so Sasuke sought out to find out himself. He tried many places. Place in America, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Italy, and many more. He tried some places outside of Tokyo, but after seven years, he still had not found his older brother. After about five years, Sasuke gave up. Wherever Itachi was, he was staying there, and Sasuke was never going to find him.
After he stopped trying to find his brother Sasuke found that he was very bored with his life. Aside from hunting down his brother, he had nothing else to do. His company basically ran itself, so he all he had to do was show up for important meetings.
Uchiha Sasuke wanted something exciting in his life. When he was in high school, he was on the wrestling team, hockey team, and he even took karate from the age of four, to the age of fifteen. All in all, Sasuke was a very strong man. Although, if you took one look at him, you wouldn’t think so.
He was about 6’3, but fairly skinny, and rather pale. On his way home from school one day, he was attacked by three men with knives. They thought he was a helpless teenager, but they were proven wrong when he sent all three of them to the hospital without getting a scratch.
So, in order to get rid of his boredom, and calm down the hatred towards his brother, he decided to get a job as a body guard at Konoha mental institute. He would be starting tomorrow, and the doctor he would be ‘guarding’ went by the name of Uzumaki Naruto.
Naruto wasn’t good at math, nor was he good in chemistry, he hated writing and taking tests, and he struggled through high school. He hated school with every fiber of his being, and he didn’t even want to go to college in the first place. It was one of his teachers, Umino Iruka, who pushed him to go.
While Naruto hated school, he was a very special talent with dealing with people and their problems, which is why he decided to pursuit a major in psychology. He passed all of his classes with an A+ in everything, shocking his friends and Iruka.
When he told everyone that he was going to be working in a mental hospital, Konoha MI no less, they were shocked and feared for his life. Konoha MI held criminals who pleaded insanity, and they were all very dangerous. But Naruto didn’t think so. He felt that they were people too, and they deserved a chance at life. He hated people who put down anyone with mental problems.
“Oh, hello there Uzumaki-san!” A cheery black-haired young woman greeted him at the desk. He remembered her from when he first applied. Her name was Nemoto Shizune, and she was the nurse under Masako Tsunade, the head doctor at the institute.
“Shizune-neechan, you can call me Naruto…” Naruto replied. He felt uncomfortable when people called him by his last name. He would much rather be called by his first name, it made everything feel more friendly.
“Ah, yes, Naruto. I need to brief you on the patients you will be working with, and helping Tsunade-sama work with. There are many patients who reside here, and you won’t be meeting a lot of them. However, some of the one’s you are working with are a bit dangerous, and you will be in need of a bodyguard.” She said as she reached into a drawer at the receptionist’s desk, and pulled out a clipboard.
“A bodyguard? No, I can take care of myself…” Naruto said. He didn’t want, nor need a bodyguard.
“I’m sorry, but it’s the policy. All the doctors have one, even Tsunade-sama. You’re body guard will be here soon, but for now, let me tell you about your patients. Their danger level is ranged from one to ten, ten being the most dangerous.” Shizune said as she walked out from behind the desk, and led Naruto through the hallways. There were so many rooms, and Naruto wondered how many patients he’d be working with.
“As of right now, you will be working with eight patients. They are as followed: Momochi Zabuza. He was sent here because on the day of his high school graduation, he murdered all of his fellow graduates and teachers. He is currently thirty five and has been here for eighteen years. His danger level is eight, so please do not see him alone.”
Naruto winced at this. It was sad to think that this man had been there for that long. And it made Naruto wonder. Did he have a family that visited him? Or did they completely abandon him when he killed his friends?
“Next, Hatake Kakashi. He was sent here because he went mute after his friend; Uchiha Obito was murdered in front of his eyes. He is thirty years old and has been here for ten years. Although he doesn’t speak, he is rather friendly and has never attacked a doctor or nurse. His DL is only a two. However, I suggest you let your bodyguard go with you the first few times you see him.” Shizune checked off his name on the clipboard, and looked down on the list. Naruto thought it was a bit rude to choose a ‘level of dangerousness’ for each patient.
‘Hatake Kakashi, why does that name sound so familiar?’ Naruto asked himself. He knew that name from somewhere, he just didn’t remember where.
“Sabaku Gaara is next. He has split-personality disorder, and his other personality is called Shukaku. When he was younger, his parents ignored him, and his classmates hated him, which is why he came up with Shukaku, to keep him company. According to Gaara, Shukaku tells him to kill, and he has done it countless times. He is twenty-two and has been here for ten years. His DL is seven. You will need your bodyguard with you to see him.” Shizune said.
Naruto felt his heart clench. Gaara was only one year older than he was, and he had been in this hospital for ten years. Naruto knew how it felt like to be ignored and hated. Maybe working with Gaara would be…a relief.
“Rock Lee is one of the nicest, if not the nicest patient you will be working with. He is very optimistic on life, which is very sad considering his condition.”
“What’s his condition?” Naruto asked.
“He has Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a shame, because he is so young. He’s only twenty two. He’s only been here for two years now.” Shizune told him.
“Does he know he has it?” Naruto asked.
“Yes, he does. And although there is no cure, he thinks that one day there will be. He’s very nice, like I said, and we have him on one for his DL.” Naruto frowned. It was really sad, to see someone so young have Alzheimer’s disease.
“His girlfriend, Haruno Sakura come’s to visit him often, so you will see her a lot.”
“EH?! I know her! I grew up with her. She never mentioned it though. I remember two years ago she said her boyfriend proposed to her…but than, she never mentioned him again.” Realization hit him. Of course, she wouldn’t mention him! It was because it was too painful for her to mention it.
“Well, moving on. Yakushi Kabuto is a strange character. He’s conducted experiments on humans, some of them very gruesome. He claimed that he was forced by someone named ‘Orochimaru’ but we never found that man. Therefore, we came to the conclusion that he made the man up. We diagnosed him with Schizophrenia. He is twenty-six and has been here for four years. He’s actually quite nice, and his DL is a four. I do suggest that you keep your bodyguard with you, just in case.” Naruto furrowed his brows. Orochimaru? That name he knew he heard before…So was Kabuto really making it up? Either way, Naruto would find out in time.
“Tenten is next. She was actually found on the streets, so we don’t know if she has a family, and we don’t even know her last name. She claims to have no background, and no past. We know absolutely nothing about her. We think she has traumatic amnesia. She is twenty-three and has been here for seven years. Her DL can range from four to seven, because she can get quite dangerous, especially if you leave anything that can be used as a weapon in the room. Her DL ranges, because she can also be very sweet. For safety measures, keep your bodyguard with you at all times.” Shizune told him. Tenten was the first female that he would be working with, and he briefly wondered if she would be the only one.
“Hyuuga Neji was abandoned by his family in a very cruel way. They tried to kill him, which in turn, traumatized him. He doesn’t trust anyone and any doctor that tried to help him, was shot down. He is twenty-two and has been here for seven years. His DL can range from two, to eight, depending on his mood. You are to have your bodyguard with you whenever you see him. Neji is very difficult, so please be honest if your sessions with him are going nowhere.
“Finally, there is Konohamaru. He suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He lost his entire family in a fire when he was six. He is twelve years old, and has been here since he was six. His DL is only two to three, and he can be quite a troublemaker, so be careful when you have sessions with him. That is all for now. You may run into a few more patients when you walk the halls, so feel free to introduce yourself to them.” Shizune said as they made their way back to receptionist desk, where a man was waiting patiently.
“Ah, Uchiha-san, I was wondering when you would come. Naruto, this is Uchiha Sasuke, your bodyguard.”
“WHAT?! Uchiha Sasuke? Don’t you own the Uchiha corporations?” Naruto asked in shock. Why in the world would someone that rich want to work as a bodyguard? Certainly it wasn’t because he needed the money, because Sasuke was the richest man in Tokyo.
“Yes, I do.” He said carelessly. He looked Naruto up and down quickly. So this would be the guy he’d be protecting?
“Than why are you working as a bodyguard?!” Naruto yelled.
“I’m bored.” Sasuke responded, leaning against the desk.
“Bored? You’re bored so you came to work at a mental institute?! Is this some sort of joke to you, teme?! These patients are people, you know! They aren’t some…thing you can come to because you’re bored with your rich stuck up life!” Naruto shouted.
“A joke? Hn, you judge people before you know them, I see, dobe.”
“EH!? What the hell did you call me you bastard?!” Naruto asked, yelling. At his point, the head doctor, Tsunade appeared and had to separate them before they began throwing punches.
“Listen to me, brats! You will be working together whether you like it or not, so you better get to know each other, and you better get along, or so help me I will fire you both!” She threatened. Sasuke could care less, but to Naruto, it was important. Firstly, he could not afford to lose this job, and secondly, he’d been wanting to work at this institute for as long as he could remember.
“Fine Tsunade-baachan…” He said as he pulled away.
“Good! Now why don’t you two go to lunch together before Naruto meets with his first patient?” She suggested. It took a few moments, but the pair agreed and left the building together, Sasuke glaring at Naruto, and Naruto glaring right back.
“Hmm, you know what Shizune? I think this is the start of something beautiful.”
