A/N: Set during “Words And Deeds”. Song’s by the All-American Rejects. And yes, I ship Cameron with just about everyone. I still haven’t made up my mind. It depends on the episode, I suppose. And for some reason, I picture her in a red dress in this fic, (the one from “All In”, maybe), and House is in a suit. Let’s just pretend...
Dance Inside
Dreary notes drifted through the cold, dull apartment, rain clouds looming outside. Outside.
Damn, he would miss outside.
You
don’t have to move, you don't have to speak
You're staring me
down, a glance makes me weak
Brush so lightly
He leaned back, letting his fingers glide over the ivory keys, knowing he would miss this feeling most. The feeling of creating something beautiful, for only him to enjoy.
But today, today was different.
She sat cross-legged on the edge of his sofa, a glass in her hand. Already downed half of the liquor he had, halfway to numb. In disbelief that he would allow himself to be taken away- allow all of his chances to slip by. There was nothing he could do now. The damage was irreversible. Unless Tritter suddenly had a change of heart.
And
time trickles down, and I'm breathing for two
Squeeze so
tightly
I'll be fine, you'll be fine
And that, she thought, frowning, was highly, highly unlikely.
The music came to an abrupt halt, and he turned slowly on his bench. He stared at her, just stared, until she finally said something. Softly, sadly, she spoke.
“Don’t leave me alone.”
He picked up his cane and stood with it, reaching a hand out in front of him.
She looked up, mascara running, and stood shakily before falling against his chest.
They stood there, silent; his hands resting on her hips, her arms wrapped tightly around his midsection. He pressed his cheek against her hair, kissing her softly. They swayed gently, almost methodically. So much for his unwillingness to dance.
This
moment seems so long
Don't waste now, precious time
We'll dance
inside the song
She swore she could feel his heart beating faster.
“I can’t promise anything.”
