Shohane Katsuga - 17 years old at the start of the story, she is one of some characters who live in the 29th century and travel back to Meiji Japan.

Sei Hyde - ah, just another identity of Shohane! Just remember that Shohane is the girl and Sei is the man! I coin the word "hide" into "Hyde"; its meaning in English is pretty obvious, neh :)

Terumi Hoshino - age 17, Shohane's friend from the modern era

Harry Anderson - Shohane and Terumi's friend, a year older than them.

Miyamoto Musashi - the lengendary kensai in Kyoto, also Shohane's first shishou. He knew Soujiro's father well, yet knows little about Soujiro's past.

Miyamoto Hiyashi - a mystery and a friend, a skillful wordsman, also Soujiro's companion (until near the end of the first part can Soujiro find out that Hiyashi is actually Musashi's son). With prodigious skills in Niten Ichi Ryu ("Two Heavens in One," which uses double nihonto), Hiyashi makes himself extremely helpful in critical situations. I can't decide how old Hiyashi should be. Let's make him 2 years older than Soujiro :D

Seta Heiji - you must be amazed by his last name, right? Who is he, anyway? Seta Soujiro's deceased father who bequeathed him his sakabato! Soujiro learns about his biological parents from Miyamoto in the previous part.

Izanami - Soujiro's biological mother, rumored to be the legendary geisha of her time. She died protecting young Soujiro.

The whole story "Along the Vistas of Life" is quite lengthy and is separated into 3 stages: Dawning, The Wanderer’s Eyes, and The Belonging Place (you don't have to read all parts in order to understand the story, though).

This is stage II of the story.
