Freaky Friday

Kat sighed; she had been invited to become Cat Ranger permanently.

“Come on mom, you have to take the position we need all the help we can get if we’re gonna defeat Gruumm”

“Kathleen, you heard me… I will not take the position and that is final” Kat left her daughter to ponder that last thought.

“Great, just great mom… we need more people on the front line and you turn your back”

“Kathleen Ania Manx, if I hear one more word about this out of you I will make sure you regret it” Kat said turning to her daughter again before walking into her lab angrily

Kathleen hissed and went into the workout room she had to work this off or else blow up at some innocent cadet.

“Kathleen, are you okay?” Sky asked

He had been her good friend for a while, but he didn’t know about the crush she had on him.

“Yeah, Sky, I’m fine” she replied “I just wish my mom would get it through her head that we need the Kat Ranger’s help.”

“Kathleen you knew Kat wouldn’t take that position so why did you push her like that?”

“Because I thought I could change her mind… apparently I can’t” Kathleen punched the punching bag a few more times before turning to the blue ranger she had been speaking to and sighed. “Mom and I are supposed to a Chinese place tomorrow, with some other relatives”

“Your uncles?”

“Yeah, Uncle Joshua and Uncle Noah… I have no problem with that, it’s just that I’m not really seeing eye-to-eye with my mom at the moment and Uncle Noah will catch it instantly”

“Oh… I hope you can get it resolved before tomorrow then…”

“…” Kathleen glared at Sky “you know how mom and I fight… it only ends when one of us gives up and it’s not going to be me” Kathleen punched the bag hard to stress her point that much more.

“Kathleen… you know that this could go on for a long time if someone doesn’t give” Sky said

“I don’t really care at the moment Schuyler, so you can either help me or get out of my way” Kathleen said

The next day came and so did the meeting at the Chinese restaurant

“Kathleen, remember… no mention of Cat Ranger… and be on your best behavior”

“Fine” Kathleen said really not happy with the position she was in.

They arrived at the table to be greeted by Joshua and Noah. Noah could tell there was some hostility between Kat and Kathleen but he didn’t bring it up.

The meal went fine until Kathleen turned her back pulling a pen and writing ‘I haven’t forgotten about the Cat Ranger’ on it and handing it to her mother.

“Kathleen… we need to talk!” Kat said “Excuse us…” she said to her brothers who understood and were not offended by her and Kathleen leaving.

“Kathleen Ania, how many times do I have to tell you that I don’t want to be the Cat ranger? I’m doing my part!”

“Mom, you know that we need more rangers and what better way then to reintroduce Cat Ranger”

“Kathleen Ania Manx!”

“Excuse me” an older Asian woman said

“What is it?” Kat asked

“Would you like a cookie?”

“This is hardly the time,” Kat said

“Go ahead take it, you never know how this might solve your problem” the woman said

Kat and Kathleen picked up the cookies and Kathleen went through the divider into another room before opening they both opened the fortune cookies at the same time.
