Chapter Thirteen: Changes Not Made
I blinked several times before realizing I was in my bed. Mom was reading a book in the chair beside me. I looked over to her and accidentally let out a small sigh. She instantly looked up from her book at me.
"Cody?" She asked bending down onto the floor beside my bed. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Fine. Um, where's Zack?" I asked. I didn't really care, but at the same time, I really did care.
"He's not here. He went to get an ice pack for you." Mom said as she swept black hair from my face.
Did this mean he cared again? Was everything changing now?
"Sweetie, why, I mean- Cody-"
"Mom, just get it out." I said slightly annoyed. Mostly because I knew what she wanted to know.
"Why have you been cutting yourself?" She asked me then swallowed hard.
I didn't know what to say, so I made something up.
"Stress from school work and rejection from girls." I said smiling in the most odd way you could smile. Please buy it, please buy it.
"Okay." Mom told me, I was happy she bought into it.
"Okay?" I asked.
"No, of course it's not okay, okay. I never want you to do it again Cody. Cutting is very dangerous, I don't want you to get hurt, or worse, to di-"
"Okay." I said, I really didn't want her to finish the sentence. I heard the door to the suite open and Zack walked in.
"Here's the ice pack." He smiled tossing it to me.
"Thanks." I said, a confused look had to be on my face.
"I have work boys. Be good, and stay here. You're both grounded." Mom said sternly before leaving us alone in the room.
Zack's happy face quickly turned to angry and evil. I knew it was too good to be true. I just knew it.
"What in the hell did you think you were doing? Telling on me?" He asked pacing back and forth.
"Zack, I didn't mean to, it just slipped out." I said, sounding desperate and stupid.
"I bet."
"Well, you told her about me." I protested.
"Oh well, I guess it just slipped out." He sneered.
I was mad and hurt. I thought I had my brother back, but I didn't. I watched as he got a hoodie on and sprayed it with some cologne.
"Where are you going?" I asked, I mean, mom had told us to stay put.
"Out." He said coldly. He left, slamming the door. As he had left, I noticed something had fallen out of his hoodie pocket. I walked over and picked up the small white bag. I couldn't believe what I saw.
Cocaine.
The End
Prologue
Well, just to make sure, my mom sent me to the same group that Max went to for people who had problems. We always found comfort in each other when we though about not eating or cutting ourselves. I know Tapeworm felt a little jealous, considering that I was around Max a lot more. But at least the three of us are still friends. Mom is keeping a watchful eye on Zack, but he always manages to sneak out and take drugs. Now it seems like he's becoming dependant on it. I haven't had the urge to cut myself ever since I buried myself back into my studies and hanging out with Max and Tapeworm.
Now if only we could help Zack…
He's starting to spiral down a bad road…
