A/N: I haven’t done any MeLty in a long time, and now I feel the sudden urge to write MeLty. Oh and my whole world has fallen apart, Gary Sinise doesn’t have blue eyes, he has brown eyes. What the hell is up with that? I’m usually pretty good at noticing these kinda things, but I feel, oh moving on.

Dark eyes always searching, searching for something, even she wasn’t sure what. Light brown hair fell in her eyes as she looked around, then back at the evidence she was bent over. Somewhere something broke, she turned and looked at the source of the noise, frozen as she looked at the fire that had broken out right behind her, leaving her trapped in the trace lab. Lindsay began to panic, the fire alarm in the building went out and Lindsay went towards the glass wall, banging on it to get someone’s attention. No one was around, no one came for her, and then finally someone came running by, stopped and looked at her then looked around. Mac Taylor looked around for something to break the glass wall with, finally picking up a chair and throwing it repeatedly against the wall. Lindsay threw her hands in front of her face and felt her knees give out, bracing herself for when she came in contact with the ground.

Mac saw Lindsay go down and finally got a whole big enough in the wall to walk through. He scooped Lindsay up in his arms and ran towards the stairs, hurrying down to the bottom floor. By the time he got to the bottom his legs ached from his long decent, but he ignored the pain and ran her to an ambulance, getting her into the back and climbing in next to her.

“What happened to her?” the paramedic asked him.

“I’m not sure, I think she inhaled too much smoke,” Mac said. He had heard the alarm sound, and smelled the smoke, on his way out the building he saw Lindsay, trapped in the glass room. Lindsay gasped and opened her eyes, tried to sit up but Mac placed his hands on her shoulders and forced her to stay where she was.

“Mac,” Lindsay breathed out his name, he had never been more relieved to hear someone say his name. Mac smiled at her and she slipped in and out of consciousness, finally reaching for his hand and squeezing it, before slipping back into a more peaceful state.

NY—NY

Lindsay struggled to open her eyes, wishing that she could have stayed asleep longer. For a few moments she kept her eyes closed, but listened to what was going on around her. She could hear the steady rhythmic breathing of someone asleep in the chair next to her bed, and the gentle beep of the monitors she was hooked up to. Lindsay forced her eyes open and was surprised to see Mac, asleep next to her, his head on her bed and his hand clutching hers. Lindsay rolled over and watched him, finally mustering up the strength to reach out and touch him. She ran her fingers through his hair and then let he hand fall to her bed. Mac sat up and looked at her, then blinked and looked around.

“You were asleep for more than ten hours before I finally fell asleep,” Mac explained. She smiled and yawned, then closed her eyes and relaxed slightly.

“You saved me,” Lindsay said softly. Mac looked into her eyes and nodded then looked down at their intertwined fingers.

“The panic in your eyes, it was heart breaking,” Mac said. He moved from his chair to the edge of her bed, and smiled down at her. She looked into his eyes, finding it impossible to tear her eyes away from his, and then put her hand on his cheek.

“Thank you Mac, if it weren’t for you I’d—“ Mac put his fingers on Lindsay’s lips to stop her from finishing, and then brushed away the tears that slipped from her eyes.

“I know Linds,” Mac said. He leaned in and kissed her forehead, then looked down at her and put his hand on her cheek.

“Mac,” Lindsay said. She opened her arms and he leaned in, wrapped his arms around her and held her close to him. She buried her head in his chest and began to cry, all the events of the past day finally catching up with her, sucking the very life out of her.

“Thank you,” she whispered when she finally calmed down. Mac tilted her chin up with his finger and smiled down at her before speaking.

“Anytime Linds,” he whispered before leaning in and catching her lips in a sweet kiss. Lindsay deepened the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. After a long moment they broke apart. Mac leaned his forehead against hers and smiled down at her, brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes then kissed her nose.

“When am I getting out of here?” Lindsay asked Mac. Mac sat up straight but kept his hand on her hip, then chewed on his bottom lip as he thought for a moment.

“Tonight I think. Why? You got a hot date?” he joked. She grinned and tried to sit up, but winced and laid back into her pillows.

“No, how hard did I fall?” Lindsay asked her boss. Mac’s face went serious and Lindsay had her answer, she put her hand on his cheek and pulled him in for another kiss.

“It’s okay Mac, you saved me, I owe you,” she said. He nodded and kissed the palm of her hand, then leaned in and wrapped his arms around her.

“I’d do anything for you, Lindsay,” Mac told her. She smiled and kissed him then grinned at him.

“Anything? Will you smuggle me a milkshake? Strawberry would be nice,” Lindsay asked him, a smile playing across her lips. He laughed and kissed her again, then rested his forehead on hers and smiled down at her.

“I’ll get right on it. You want anything else with that?” Mac asked her. She shook her head and he got up then walked to the door, stopping to look at her before leaving the room.

“Mac, what started the fire?” Lindsay asked him. He leaned against the doorframe and looked at her, sighed heavily then walked back to her bedside.

“An unstable chemical was left too close to a burner that had been left on, the heat from the burner caused it to catch fire, it spread quickly,” Mac told her, not like she didn’t already know that. Lindsay nodded and reached for him, pulling him into a hug.

“Thank you Mac.”
