Summary: Someone’s watching Endymion’s training session.
So, as they talked I wondered over to them again. I was always staring outside, wishing I could just run away and quit all this. I wanted to have fun.
But I couldn’t.
I stared when I found them – him in the courtyard.
They were in the middle of sword training. The four were circling him, the one with the curly hair attacking suddenly, pulling him away from the blonde one.
He managed to drive him back. But the auburn one tried sneaking up on him.
He twisted out of the way, but the curly one kept swinging, so now he was fighting both.
It looked like they were trying to get him into the grass; every time he had to move, he kept an eye on the edge of the courtyard.
He suddenly jumped over both of them, skidding across the marble.
The blonde one landed halfway between them.
Before he could even get to his knees, the white haired one finally stepped up, kicking him in the stomach.
But he caught it, tried to throw him off.
All the white one did was jump back a few feet before pouncing on him, knocking his sword away.
He only dodged the next swing. Trying to kick him in the ribs, he let the next one hit his shoulder guard before jumping back again.
He landed by his sword… and the other three’s. Turning to them, we all realized it.
They saw me watching.
Even so far apart, even… we were staring into each other’s eyes. I couldn’t help smiling as I noticed he still picked up his sword, never breaking contact.
We kept staring, somehow catching that the other three were so amazed, so excited. The white one was enthralled, coming closer and putting his hand on his shoulder.
I still don’t know for sure what happened. But somehow, something connected. No, we realized we are connected. He was confused. I was happy.
I didn’t realize it until my palm felt cold.
They all jumped, the others backing away from him. I’ll never forget that smile as he clenched his hand over his heart. Even three stories up with half a courtyard between us, I felt it.
He didn’t move. The other four fell to their knees.
I felt their presences right before he bowed.
The one on the left spoke up. “He’s training hard.”
“He is very good Fa-” a hand from behind pushed the hood farther over my face, “Your Majesty.”
“Come child,” that hand came to rest comfortably on my shoulder, turning me from the windows. “I am sorry, but we are needed elsewhere Priestess.”
I could only nod, bowing silently.
“Priestess,” the king responded.
We were almost equals again.
I always hated leaving.
