Disclaimer I own all the DVDs, and my mistakes here. No more, no less. Don't own CSI, "Goodbye to you" (Michelle Branch), or "She will be Loved" (Maroon 5).

Spoilers Set after Leaving Las Vegas, anything before that is fair game.

A/N This is what happens when I can't sleep. I think, and listen to music, and think some more. "Goodbye to you" is one of my favourite songs at the moment. This is my 1st songfic, and my first angst-type piece. Please R&R. And 9 days until Season 7 starts here in the UK (Jan 30th, 9pm, on 5). So I apologise for any errors that have resulted because I've only seen up to Way to Go.

Goodbye to You

I can't take this any longer. It's too quiet. I have to get out of here!

Sara pulled on her running shoes, grabbed her I-Pod, and pulled the door shut behind her. She was still angry. Grissom had received a job offer teaching for a few weeks. He had been thinking about it. But he had left telling her that he had accepted it until last. Fishing out her I-Pod, she located her favourite's playlist, put it on shuffle, and started out.

Right, let's see if a long run clears my head.

Of all the things I've believed in

I just wanna get it over with

Tears form behind my eyes

But I do not cry

Counting the days pass me by

You didn't ask me to go with you. Why not? Why did I not ask you to stay? I knew you needed this break; the cases were starting to kill your spirit, but…. You've been gone for 8 days already, and I miss you. I should be used to this by now, every time I get happy and settled, everything changes. It was the same in the foster homes, why should this be different?

I've been searching deep down in my soul

Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old

Feels like I'm starting, all over again

Last three years were just pretend

Because I thought it would be different this time. You promised me. You really seemed like someone who would keep his promises. Our relationship improved after my almost DUI, but that was my weakness. Maybe that wasn't the best way to start a new relationship, but we said we'd make it work. Is the reason you didn't ask me to go because…is this your way out?

And I said Goodbye to you

Goodbye to everything that I knew

You were the one I loved

The one thing that I tried to hold on to

I wouldn't say goodbye to you. It's too final. At our house, we had said "See you in four". But when you came into the locker room, I thought I saw it in your eyes.

I used to get lost in your eyes

And it seems that I can't live a day without you

Closing my eyes, you chase my thought away

To a place where I am blinded by the light

But it's not right

Looking into your eyes was the one thing that made me feel safe. It took me a while to tell you about my past, but as soon as I looked in your eyes, I could see that you wouldn't judge me. You wouldn't stop caring about me. You can't hide anything from me. When I look into your eyes, I know what you are thinking.

But that night, when you told me you had accepted the job, I couldn't read you. I got scared then. In the past few months, since I moved my stuff here, we've spent one night apart. Now you expect us to spend 28 nights on our own.

Last night we talked. I told you how I felt; you held me close, and kissed my neck, calming my fears. But then I woke up. It had all been a dream

Goodbye to you

Goodbye to everything that I knew

You were the one I loved

The one thing that I tried to hold on to

Was it Goodbye?

And it hurts to want everything and nothing at the same time

I want what's yours and I want what's mine

I want you, but I'm not giving in this time

Goodbye to you

Goodbye to everything that I knew

You were the one I loved

The one thing that I tried to hold on to

Goodbye to you

Goodbye to everything that I knew

You were the one I loved

The one thing that I tried to hold on to

And when the stars fall I will lie awake,

You're my shooting star.

I miss you. But you left me! You didn't ask me to join you, hell you didn't even ask me to visit you. I love you. I thought you loved me. Now I'm not so sure. You promised to phone every morning, and I'd phone every night. But it's too hard. To hear your voice in the morning as I get off shift, it's too hard. I can't sleep. Greg and Nick are starting to ask questions. They say I've been cranky this past week. They want to know what's different. They are my best friends, and I can't tell them how hurt I am. I need to talk to someone. I need to tell someone. We said we'd keep it secret, but I can't cope alone now!

Damn, where did that rain come from?

Sara turned around, and picked up the pace. If she was lucky, she'd get home before the rain got worse. Sara ran towards the townhouse she now shared with Grissom, with her playlist moved onto a more upbeat song. Man, I've got to stop reading too much into songs. Or maybe change my favourites list. Put some more upbeat songs. Sara ran up to the front door; put her key in the lock, but the door opened before she could turn it. Shit, Sara thought, as she slowly pushed the door open. As she took her headphones out of her ears, she heard another song coming from the living room. What the hell type of burglar breaks in, and announces himself by listening to music? Wait….. That's…..

Sara's face broke into a smile as she recognised the song that was playing.

I know where you hide, alone in your car

Know all of the things that make you who you are

I know that goodbye, means nothing at all

Comes back and makes me catch her every time she falls

Tap on my window knock on my door

I wanna make you feel beautiful

I don't mind spending everyday

Out on your corner in the pouring rain

Look for the girl with the broken smile

Ask her if she wants to stay a while

And she will be loved…..

"Grissom, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be gone for another three weeks. Why did you…." Sara was interrupted as Grissom kissed her hello.

"I took Monday off, so I could come back…." This time Grissom was unable to finish his sentence as Sara returned his kiss.

As Sara broke of this kiss, Grissom led her to the couch and sat her down. "I have a late flight back on Monday, and I've spoke to Catherine and told her you'll be taking the next two nights off. I've not been able to sleep properly since I left. I miss you. Spending this time away from you has made me realise exactly how I feel. I. Love. You." Grissom punctuated each of these words with a kiss. One to Sara's forehead, one to her nose, and one to her mouth, which she let him deepen.

Just as she was about to lose herself in his kiss, something he said hit her. "You spoke to Catherine, told her I was taking the next two nights off? What did she say?"

"Well" Grissom laughed "She was wondering when I'd be back for you. She said your face has been tripping you since I left, and I better make sure that when you go back on Monday, you are in a better mood. She also asked how long we'd been living together."

"What? But how did she…?" Sara wondered

"Well, you have another review due in this month. Since Cath is supervisor whilst I'm gone, she has to do your review. The fact that my address was where yours should have been was her second clue. The fact that she heard our conversation in the locker room was the first" Grissom explained.

Sara laughed, "Well, I was starting to get worried. We're the number 2 crime lab in the country, but no one had noticed that we arrived and left at the same time – on time no less, strange for us. I was starting to get disappointed."

"How about we give them their biggest clue yet?" asked Grissom. "Sara, I was serious earlier, being apart has made me realise that I love you, more that I ever knew possible. I don't want to be apart from you. I don't want to have to think about living without you. I want to spend all of my time with you." Grissom reached into his pocket, and pulled out the red velvet box. As he knelt down, he opened it. "Sara, will you marry me?"

"Yes!" As Grissom slipped the ring on Sara's finger, he pulled her into a kiss.

"Cath is not going to tell anyone, but I think they'll figure it out when you wear that on Monday night to work." Sara smiled at Grissom. "But you do have to be cheerier at work."

"But you are still going back on Monday" Sara thought aloud.

Grissom just smiled. "Well, remember how we usually have to force vacation time on you" he pulled her close. "I've arranged for you to have next weekend off, and the following week you're off for the week". Grissom handed her plane tickets. "You're coming to visit me" he explained "We are not going to be apart for longer than we have to be".

Grissom smiled, as Sara gave him one of her bright smiles I've missed that Grissom thought. Sara pulled him up to his feet, towards their bedroom. "I have you for the next two whole days" Sara explained, "I'm not sharing you with anyone".

Grissom smiled as they started undressing each other. I've REALLY missed this!
