Disclaimer: I do not own the Teen Titans whatsoever.

Here's a note: I wrote this story, down on paper in a notebook, during the second season. This was when all we knew about Raven's past was shown in the episode "Nevermore", and that was it. Terra is still around. I'm only posting it now because I was looking through my old notebooks and junk and found stuff that I had never typed up or posted on here. This isn't the DIRECT original, because this story is much more elaborate and edited now that I'm older. But the storyline is exactly the same, and I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, and the first part is in Latin, but I'll have a translation at the bottom of the page. I did it in Latin just because it was cooler. Have fun!

“Oh please, daddy, please? Just a little more?” A little girl pleaded, lying down in bed, about to fall asleep. Her father sat beside her, a small smile playing across his lips in the candlelight. He lifted up a hand, sifting it through the child’s soft hair.

“Maybe tomorrow, but you need to go to bed. Good night, my little bird.” The father figure bent down and kissed his lovely daughter on the forehead, leaving the room and blowing out the candle on the nightstand. The girl, left in the darkness of the shadows, pulled the blankets over her head. It was at this moment, that she couldn’t help but fall into her dreams...

The world exploded with light and sound, the rain pounding against the tall, plexiglass windows of the building. Waves crashed upon the shore, huge upheavals of water landing on the mucky sand. It was thunder storming over Jump City, California, and seemed to be coming down particularly hard on the island in the middle of the bay, a structure upon it known as Titans Tower.

“What am I doing here?” The dense rain seemed to be coming from a gigantic puddle in the sky, coming down harshly upon a teenage girl in pajamas. Out of confusion the adolescent stood to her feet, arm going across her eyes as the cold wind bit at her skin. Relying on what vision she had, she began to trudge toward the Tower, knowing that she somehow had to get back inside. Her feet plodded through the thick mud, her own body slain with guck and grime. She nearly collapsed as she typed in the code for the Tower to open, stumbling as she entered through the doorway. The dim lights blinked above her, and she could easily see that she was above her head in mud.

Dragging herself to the nearest bathroom with a shower, the teen huffed, occasionally coughing up more muck. She made a trail of sludge throughout the hallway, leaving handprints on the wall as she entered the bathroom. She slipped out of her clinging pajamas, turning on a shower. She climbed in and the water began to cleanse her body of the filth, her fingers already running through her hair. She grabbed a bottle of shampoo as to get her scalp rid of the disgusting guck, followed by rubbing a bar of soap all over herself. It took more than ten minutes to get every speck of mud off of her, making sure to get behind her ears.

Wrapping a towel around herself as she stepped out of the shower (although not turning it off), she made her way to the mirror above the sink. She ran a cool hand on it, smearing away the fog. She sighed heavily, frowning at her complexion. Large, deep-set amethyst eyes and a face grey as the dead stared at her, rarely blinking. Her frown increased when she raised a finger as to fondle the naturally sky purple hair that fell along the sides of her cheekbones, thick eyebrows accompanying the long eyelashes she had. Her pale, pink lips twitched at the thought that she found her face dissatisfying, no matter who she was. There was probably only one thing she did like about her face, and that would have to have been the blood red gem right in the middle of her forehead. She certainly didn’t recall of how it got there, glimmering as the lights fell upon it, but it was the only thing she had of her past that had any hope for her.

Tearing herself away from the mirror, the girl opened the cupboard above the toilet and grabbed a spare pair of pajamas. She almost felt too tired as to shut off the water now, already halfway to the door as to go upstairs. She pulled herself up the stairs to the main room on the building, eyes landing on the couch. She flopped down on it, tired from fatigue. Everything in her body told her that she should have fallen asleep right then and there, and yet she had the mental urge not to.

Questions eradicated across her mind. What would happen if she started to sleep walk again? Where would she end up next time? It was often that she slept walked, but she couldn’t help but fear it. What kind of sane person would walk out into the middle of a storm? And at night? Groaning to herself the girl raised an arm comfortably over her head, yawning. Even if she might not do it again, she didn’t like the idea of it. Perhaps, if she could just stay awake...

“Excuse me, but why is Raven sleeping on the couch?

“Who knows?”

“Dude! Who left the shower runnin’? The water’s freaking cold! And there’s mud everywhere!

The normal ruckus of a Sunday morning invaded the sleeping figure’s ears. She cracked open her eyes, sitting up as the sunshine beamed through the tall windows. It took a few moments to recall what exactly had happened the previous night, and when she heard her friends’ cries of confusion, she remembered. She had left the shower running overnight, and now there was no hot water yet. And, she had gotten mud all over the bathroom. Slightly embarrassed at this fact, the teen managed to slip out of her friends’ views and into her room.

The girl, often known as Raven, changed into her daily outfit and tossed her pajamas into a basket meant for dirty laundry. Her tiny abode was dark and gothic, almost to a point of depressing. However, she had the distinct feeling that she had grown up with horror-afflicted surroundings, and so it did not really disturb her. In a way, it was almost kind of comforting.

But among the old bookcase and melted candles, was a picture that she just felt a connection to. It was none other than the Teen Titans, her loyal companions and brave fighters. They made an excellent team, defending the city from treacherous aliens and villains. The picture depicted was the only formal one they had, with everyone dressed up especially spiffy for the occasion, like a real family.

The suave, athletic Robin, jet black hair slicked back and masked poised gracefully upon his face, stood next to none other than the flawlessly beautiful, Tameranian red-head known as Starfire. Beside Starfire was the robotic Cyborg, a cocky grin on his face, as if to say, ‘Yeah, you know I’m da man’ and fully proud to be who he was. The half-machine’s hand was on a short fellow’s shoulder, his own smile plastered upon his lime green face. It was no surprise, since his gorgeous girlfriend Terra held hands with him, her eyes almost looking at Beast Boy more than the camera. And then there was Raven herself, a sad expression on her face that almost seemed like she didn’t know how to smile... which was just plain weird.

Shaking her head and turning away from the picture, Raven decided that it would be all right if she showed her face again. The team couldn’t be totally pissed off because of the shower. She made her way to the kitchen, digging out a tea kettle from the lower cupboards and pouring water in it. She set it on the stove to a boil, performing the daily routine of making herbal tea. She turned as to get the package for her tea, when a fork appeared right in front of her face.

“C’mon, I know you wanna try it!” Beast Boy persuaded, holding out a fork of tofu waffle. Raven cocked an eyebrow.

“No thanks.” She declined, knowing that anyone smart enough would reject Beast Boy’s cooking instantly. He shrugged and wolfed it down, which was much like the others that had already made their hearty breakfast of the day. The kettle whistled and she tended to it, pouring the water into a nice mug. She dipped the package of tea into it, about to raise it to her lips.

The alarm sounded, echoing all throughout the Tower. Without a single word the Titans leapt into action, dropping whatever they had immediately. At a surprisingly fast speed they gathered to the center of the city, where terror was more than likely to strike...
