Unchained Melody

The malt colored wallpaper was slightly chipped in the corner near the window, and that was all really she could keep her chocolate brown eyes on. The three text books were spread open to random pages she had written down in her planner earlier that day, but that one spot on the wall seemed so much more interesting than reading old court cases. Tapping her pen on the pages and shifting her eyes to the window to watch the raindrops fall off the leaves, she hummed to herself as she heard a dog barking out in the distance somewhere. Time seemed to slip slowly away while she gazed to no set point, until a hand rested on her shoulder. Her whole form jumped, and she looked behind to see who it was.

"Arai, don't scare me like that."

The tall male behind the female catching her breath laughed. "Hah. Come on, Haruhi. You're so jumpy."

Arms encircled her from behind, and he leaned his head to hers. "Hey, I miss you. Why don't you ever take a break from your busy schedule to call me, huh?"

Haruhi sighed, waving a hand to all her textbooks. "Law school in not exactly a walk in the park on a Sunday afternoon," she said in her usual stern tone, before glaring up to his face.

"Hey, hey. Easy there, tiger. Don't need you angry at me, now."

Shaking his arms from around her shoulders, the tired female yawned, standing up and throwing her arms around Arai's neck. "Hm, I'm glad you're here."

"Well, I had to come. I never know if you're alive or dead anymore. Always shut up in your apartment, and apparently you've forgotten how to use your phone. Do I need to teach you?"

Slipping his head from the circle her arms made around his neck, he went to her phone and picked it up, punching in random numbers. Haruhi laughed, taking the phone from him and hanging it up. "Stop it. For all I know, you could have called America and I'll have a phone bill so damn expensive I won't be able to pay it."

"Well, I did call a pizza place I know in Italy."

The grin on his face clued Haruhi in he was obviously joking.

"How many times do I have to tell you, you filthy, disgusting child? I do not want you in here!"

Tamaki stood outside the first Suoh mansion, a look of distress on his face.

"But, grandmother..."

She waved a hand, not wanting to hear whatever he had to say.

Amythest eyes darkened, and he stood his ground. "Grandmother, you may not like me, but he is my father, like it or not. You must let me see him."

The old woman's head turned sharply, looking back to her lanky grandson. "I do not have to let you do anything. It's a wonder I let you stay here. Believe me, the minute he is dead, you are going back to that retched country you and that harlot mother of yours came from."

With that, the heavy doors were shut in his face.

Sighing, the blond turned around and headed for his waiting car. The crest of the Suoh family was on its metallic surface, and he traced the silver and gold dips and bends of the design. Opening the door and getting in, the car started to move forward.

Quite frankly, Tamaki did not wish to return to France. He knew his mother was somewhere among the French noble class, but he wanted to stay here. Here was where he had spent some of the best times of his life. Here was where his friends were.

Here was where she was.

She left you, Tamaki, he had to remind himself as he waved her image out of his mental images.

Oh sure, there was a time where Haruhi Fujioka had lowered her steel wall and let him come over. There had been sleepless nights where the two had felt each other in every possible way known to man. There had been days even, where she had worn cute outfits just for him. There had bee times where her brown eyes looked at him like he was the only one in the world who mattered.

After he had graduated, she just dropped him one day. She never told him why, just that "it was not working the way she wanted it to."

His eyes wandered over to the tinted glass, and as the mansion came into view, he wondered why the house looked a lot less grand without the sun upon it.
