A/N: This is based on a song Even in Death by Evanscence. I just heard the song this one time and saw the lyrics and they made me cry my friggin' eyes out!
Even in Death
The soft moonlight lit the narrow pathway, chasing the darker shadows away. One Shadow, however, was not chased away by the white light. The Shadow made his way quietly through the cemetery, searching for his goal.
Only at night would he find fulfillment from this place, only at night could they meet. 'They' included himself but also the boy glowing his own soft light, sitting on a lone tombstone under a large old tree. The boy who had stolen his, some say non-existent, heart.
As if sensing his presence, the boy looked up from the stone he had been staring and smiled sorrowfully at the Shadow, who had once again come to visit him.
“He's dead, except it and move on!”
The echo of memories couldn't change the mind once it had decided something, nothing could. Not the bars, guards or nurses, not the straitjackets. They didn't know they couldn't leave each other, they thought it was crazy for them to think that they could stay together even after what happened. No bonds could ever keep the two apart for long.
“You shouldn't have come.” The boy said quietly as a hand reached to touch his cheek gently.
“I'm taking you home with me then.” The Shadow spoke, locking eyes with the other before bending to kiss his forehead.
“You know you can't do that...” He said, holding on to the purple cape and leaning on his chest, a silent tear rolling down his cheek.
“Then I will stay with you forever, right here.”
They could just stay there for all eternity if that would be possible. But alas, no one can cross between the realm of the living and the one of the dead for long. The words still gave them both reassurance that they would never have to be alone, because without the other, they would truly be alone.
“Even in death our love goes on...” The words were spoken softly into the Shadow's cloak and he held him tighter as if to further reassure that they couldn't be torn apart.
These nights were always special as the line between the living and the dead was thinner than normally. It was then they could meet and be together, touch and hold each other. Both treasured those nights, it was almost as the other was alive again.
A quiet and a bit muffled voice began singing softly. It was their song, something they both had fond memories of and would forever keep them tied together. A second voice joined the first one. It was like a ritual for them now, it somehow brought them closer and gave them hope when all hope seemed to be lost.
“...and I can't love you, anymore than I do...”
The song filled the sorrowful, lonely hearts like it had done the first time, so long ago... It almost felt like it had been forever since they had met, since both of them were alive. Back then, before the other was taken away, they had brought happiness in each other's otherwise empty life. It had been back then that they were truly happy... Now all that was left of it was the hollow, sorrowful feeling of separation, that was only filled when they were reunited during the nights.
“We should really stop meeting like this...”
“We should really stop meeting like this...” The words were like the echo of the memory long gone, except first time they were spoken was in a light joking manner, now the tone was different.
“I agree...”
“No...” Was the only silent answer the Shadow had this time. “Let's...keep...”
The words were cut short by the sun that was now reaching above the horizon. The boy let the final tears fall down before he had to let go of the other. They both knew their time was now up, for tonight.
Soon, as the sun rays wiped out the darkness of the night, the other was gone, leaving the lonely figure alone in the cemetery.
The boy stood up, wiping the tears from his cheeks and sending a last glance towards the tombstone he had been sitting on.

He left the quiet cemetery, only to come back again once the time was right, to meet with the person he couldn't part with.
People die, but real love is forever
