Boots - By P.

Quick A/N: this was intended to be a drabble, (100 words) but it ended up being 300-something. That's okay though. So basically, I'm aware it's short, but it is intentionally. Artistic lisence, you see.
Quick disclaimer: Lily and James do not belong to us, though Celia and Boots do. Just, don't take, k?

Lily looked up at the roof of the greenhouse. Her kitten, Boots, who she’d been given for Christmas was stuck. How he had gotten up there was a mystery to her (possibly frightened by some stray odd creature hanging around the grounds), but he refused to comedown.

“Boooots! Booties! Come on,” she cooed, voice quavering.

Celia, her friend walked up to where she stood, eyeing Lily oddly. “Wait, why can’t you just carry him down with magic? You have your wand,” she pointed out.

“I – I don’t want to scare him. I’m too worried right now. I d-don’t want to do it wrong…” She said in between sniffs. “Plus, i-if he hangs on, I don’t want him to fight against the spell and get hurt.”

Her friend grunted in agreement. “What we really need is a fireman,” Lily said wistfully.

“A what?”

“Never mind.”

They looked up, again, only to be distracted by a scuffle behind them. James Potter had his broom in his hand and was arguing about something with his friends, some of whom were encouragingly pushing him towards, and the other annoyedly dragging him away from the two girls.

“Oh, no,” Lily mouthed silently.

“Yes indeed, Lilykins,” James flashed her a smile, “Potter is here to save the day.” He mounted his broom.

“No! James, you fool, you blathering sop… you..,” her voice trailed away as he took off. No matter what Lily said to him, it was beyond anything to get James down now. At least she knew he wasn’t going to hurt Boots, but she’d never hear the end of this. James held both his hands out to the kitten (thankfully aware of the difference between catching a cat versus a snitch), and it looked at him, confused. By now, something of a crowd had gathered. Finally, it placed a paw warily into his palm, and settled itself into his hands. The students cheered behind her as James alighted the ground, and walked Boots over to Lily.

“Your cat, Madam,” James said grandly, handing it over with a flourish. He flashed her yet another one of his wide grins, and this time, Lily couldn’t help but reply with a meek one of her own.
