Disclaimer: I do not own CSI or any of its characters except for Casey Grissom.
At age 23, Grissom was one happy man. He had a beautiful wife named Jennifer and a beautiful baby daughter named Casey. Grissom finally had the family he had dreamed for and it seemed nothing could get in his way. Not to mention he worked at the 2nd highest Crime Lab in the country. Everything seemed to be going just fine, until that night.
Casey was at home with a babysitter while Grissom and Jennifer were attending Grissom’s promotion to CSI Level 2. It was late, and they thought it best to start heading home to get to their baby girl. The drive was not very long, but they didn’t expect what was going to happen next. The car in front of them began to swerve out of control until if finally ran Grissom and Jennifer off the road and down the hillside. The only thing Grissom remembered was hearing his wife’s screams. The next, he woke up next to his wife in the car with a long gash bleeding from her head. The paramedics ran over and helped Grissom and Jennifer out of the car. “Sir, you need to come with me. You have a broken arm.”
“Where’s my wife?” asked Grissom.
“She’s being air-lifted to the hospital. Sir, please come with me.”
“Not until I know she is fine!” protested Grissom.
“Sir, we’re going to take you to her now. You have to come with us, though, okay?”
Finally Grissom gave in and followed the men into the ambulance. On the way to the hospital, he remembered that his one year old daughter was still at home. “My daughter, she’s at home,” said Grissom.
“We’ll send someone over to get her, I promise. You just need to sit back and relax, can you do that for me?” asked the paramedic.
Grissom nodded and sat back while the ambulance drove to the hospital. When they got to Desert Palms and after Grissom got his arm in a sling, a paramedic rushed in holding a sleeping Casey. “Mr. Grissom, here’s your daughter.”
Grissom thanked the man and held his sleeping daughter in his good arm. The two waited in the waiting room for the news on Grissom’s wife. After a while of waiting, a paramedic walked out and said, “Jennifer Grissom?”
“Yes, I’m Gil Grissom…her husband,” said Grissom, still holding his daughter.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Grissom, we lost her in surgery.”
The news shocked Grissom. “Wh…what? You mean to say my wife is….dead?”
The paramedic nodded. “I’m terribly sorry for your loss.”
Grissom held his daughter closer than ever. Unable to stand around the hospital anymore, Grissom walked out and towards their home. For the next 20 years, Grissom and his daughter, Casey, were closer than ever. Even after Casey’s 20th birthday, she refused to move out. Casey was too worried about her father that she was afraid to leave him alone. The fact they were close, Grissom introduced Casey to the world of Forensic Science. Whenever she would come to visit her father, the people around the lab would show her around and tell her how everything worked. And when Casey turned 28, things would never be the same.
Grissom hung up and walked to the break-room where he saw the team sitting inside. “Hey guys, you know that opening for a CSI on our team?” asked Grissom.
“Yeah?” said Catherine.
“Well, it’s been filled,” stated Grissom.
“Cool, who’s the newbie?” asked Nick.
“The ‘newbie’ is my daughter, Casey Grissom,” said Grissom.
“Awesome I’ve known her since she was a little girl,” said Catherine.
“Wait…you have a daughter?” asked Greg.
“Oh, that’s right! You haven’t met her. She’s been around for a while. She’s visited the lab several times before,” said Nick.
“Man, I remember when she ‘accidentally’ dropped a bucket on Ecklie’s head,” laughed Warrick.
“Yeah, I remember that,” said Nick.
“ANYWAY, she’s on her way now, so when she arrives, treat her like a teammate and not as my daughter,” said Grissom.
Just then, Judy walked in and said, “Mr. Grissom, your daughter is here.”
Grissom sighed as everyone snickered. “Thanks Judy, I’ll be right over,” said Grissom.
Judy left and Grissom turned to the team. “Remember what I said.”
Casey turned around to reveal a beautiful woman with brown eyes and curly brown hair. “Hey Grissom.”
Ever since she turned 20, she began to call Grissom by his name rather then Dad, especially at the office. “Follow me and we’ll get you your ID and your supplies.”
Grissom led Casey down the halls when they saw the team exiting the break-room. “Hey Casey, glad to see you,” said Catherine.
“Hey Cath, what’s up?”
“Not much, you remember Nick, Warrick and Sara, right?” said Catherine.
“How could I forget?” said Casey as they each gave Casey a greeting hug. That’s when Casey noticed an unfamiliar man behind them. “I’m sorry; I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Casey,” said Casey, offering her hand.
“Gre…Greg Sanders,” said Greg, taking her hand and shaking it. “Anyway, I was just going to get Casey all set up. I’ll catch up with you guys later,” said Grissom as he led Casey away.
When they rounded the corner, Nick punched Greg in the shoulder. “Hey guys, did you see Greg drooling when he met Casey?”
“Yeah, I think Greg has a crush on Grissom’s daughter,” said Warrick.
“Shut it guys,” said Greg, pushing Nick and Warrick away as they walked back into the break-room.
“Only when he meets beautiful girls such as you,” said Grissom as he hugged Casey.
Casey smiled and followed Grissom into his office. “I see you still have your collection,” she said as she looked around the room.
“Glad you remembered. Anyway, first off, I need a pint of your blood.”
“Why?” asked Casey.
“So many reasons,” said Grissom, taking out the supplies needed. After getting her blood, Grissom took her picture and began to create her ID. “While this is processing, why don’t you sign this waver in case for any injuries or death in the line of duty, you’ll be all set and we can get to work,” said Grissom, handing over the final sheet.
As she filled out the paper, the ID came out of the machine and Grissom put it in the ID pouch. Casey handed over the form as Grissom gave Casey her ID. “Alright, let’s head to the break-room and pass out assignments.”
Casey smiled and followed Grissom back towards the break-room where they saw the team again. “Alright, let’s hand out assignments. Catherine, you and Greg head to that 419 in the desert. Take Casey with you, show her the ropes. Warrick, you and Nick have a B&E in Henderson. Sara and I have the 419 at the Balagio.”
“Awesome!” shouted Nick as he took the slip from Grissom.
Catherine, Casey, Sara and Grissom walked out. Greg stood there as Nick and Warrick walked up behind him. “Make sure you don’t drool all over the evidence, Greggo,” said Nick.
“Ha ha, very funny,” said Greg sarcastically as he followed his teammates out of the lab.
