Chapter 3

Unexpected Joy

Bobby sat in stunned silence for a moment before a laugh erupted from deep within him. His first string, he'd finally broken his first string. That wonderful thought sent another bubble of uncontrollable laughter to pass from Bobby's lips. He looked at the broken string curled up around the top of the scroll and he smiled.

His teacher had warned him a few months back, now that he had been playing for a couple of years he was going to have some strings brake. It was nothing bad, it was actually very, very good. Strings ware out just like any other part of an instrument, you can't drag a bow a crossed something over and over again and not cause ware. The braking of a string was proof of how hard he had been working and the hours of practicing he had put into learning.

Grinning like a goof he ran his fingers over the G, D, and E strings noting the space where the broken A string was. His smile faltered as reality hit him, he couldn't play until he had it restrung. That required taking it to the music store that didn't open until 10am and putting in a call to his teacher to find out what brand of strings she wanted on it. He groaned; that meant getting a phone call in during work hours and some how hiding his violin from Alex until the store opened.
