Working at wish was always something I loved to do. If not only because it was something my mother loved to do, then because I get to work with my friends. And they are not friends you can put in a category they are the kind of people that always make you fell good, even if you don’t want them to. Delia was trying to get us all in the van so we would be on time for a party in that track of Queen Homes. I knew we were going to be late we are always late it is how we work. Never doing anything right but hey what can I say they are my family, blood or not.
“Come on you guys we are going to be late and this lady gives a lot of parties if we do well we can get her to use us again.” I was sitting in the drivers set with a very pregnant Delia sitting in the passengers set.
“Its not my fault Kristy takes forever to do everything.” Bert said coming out of the garage and getting into the back of the van.
“Kristy if you don’t not get out here I am going to fire you.” Delia threatened.
“Come on Delia you know that will never happen.”
“You better believe it will now get in this van now! Where is Monica?”
“She is coming,” Kristy told her.
“Lets go!” Delia yelled yet again.
As Monica came out and got in the van Bert noticed something, “umm did anyone put the carts with all the serving stuff in the van?”
“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me. Come on get them in here we are late.”
I knew we were going to be late, not because I knew we forgot the serving stuff but because we are always late, at lest we are consistent.
Once we got to the house we found out that the woman we were working for was one of those people that had to have everything one way and there was not exception. Well was she in for a rood awakening? All I could do was smile and nod.
“Wes can you go get me a platter out of the car?”
As I walked out side I heard “gotcha!” off in the distance then what sounded like something dropping. I could only guess that Bert had gotten some poor unsuspecting party guest that he thought was me.
“Bert?” I said walking towards the bush. “What are you doing?”
He moved around still hiding in the bush. “I’m… I’m scaring you. Aren’t I?”
Having the serving try under my arm I walked right up to the person Bert just gotchaed. I looked at her for a seconded. “Nope. Not me.” I told him. I could not help that this girl looked familiar. She was staring at me also like maybe she felt like she knew me too, “you okay?” I asked her. She nodded still looking a little shocked. I went over and pulled Bert out of the bush, his face flushed. “Bert honestly.” He can be so immature sometimes jumping out of bushes scaring people, people that are not me.
“You have to understand.” Bert said the girl. “I am down in a big way.” He tried to explain to her.
“Just apologize.” I told him she did not care if he was down or not.
“I am very sorry.” Bert said sincerely. “I umm thought you were someone else.” Well obviously god he can be so dense.
“It’s okay.” She told him.
I elbowed Bert and bent down to get the flyers off the ground. Bert being Bert was still grambling about the gotcha. “It was a good one too, I almost had him. Almost.”
Delia came out of the back door. “Where is that platter I asked for?”
“Right here” I yelled standing up and handing the flyers I had picked up to the girl.
“thanks.” She told me
“No problem.” I climbed the stairs and gave Delia the platter. “Great now Wes get back to the bar the more they drink the less they’ll notice how long the food is taking.
“Sure thing.” I told her and went over to the bar.
