I know it's not really short enough to be called a drabble, but I'll call it a drabble anyway...so don't argue with me! ;)
Just some thoughts of the Camerlengo when he's facing the truth...only there's a point in the lines!
So, just in case you're not going to figure it out...I'm going to tell you that:
- Every new line begins with the last letter of the previous line! Big deal, huh? Well, maybe not...
Disclaimer: I wouldn't mind owning the Camerlengo...but he's not mine! That honor goes to Dan Brown!
Carlo Ventresca had frozen at the altar of the Sistine Chapel. Languid of the night’s events, he fell down on his knees and let out a cry of anguish. He had never felt so abandoned before, and he couldn’t even hear God’s soothing voice.
Ever since he had walked into the Chapel, just to find out that he had killed his own father, Carlo had felt the madness take hold of him again. Nothing he had believed in was within his reach.
He could feel the sad looks of the one hundred and sixty-five cardinals…no, one hundred and sixty-one cardinals…and failed to understand. Didn’t they see the purpose of his deeds? Sacrileges as they were, they were still all in His name. Even Mortati should have understood, despite the shocking truth. Hadn’t Carlo stood for their belief? For the Church?
How much he ever tried, the past fifteen days were but a blur and the late Pope’s secret destroyed the Camerlengo even more. Exhaust was about to overtake him, but he refused to give in. Not now. While he no longer could live to finish his task, he would make the people believe again. No sermon, no sacrament…just one last miracle as a final attempt on bringing God back to the hearts of the people. Even as he thought of it, determination filled Carlo once more and he made his decision.
Now or never…
Regaining his strength, Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca performed before the world one last sign of faith. Heavenly and pure, as well as chance for forgiveness.
