“I’ll take care of him,” Itachi had said when the Hokage needed someone to look after the small child. The child’s parents had been killed off, but that didn’t stop the young boy from becoming a ninja. The child was barely eight when his parents had been murdered. “Anyway, he’s my brother, what else can I do?”

Itachi had been fifteen when he had volunteered to be a guardian to his younger brother, making him four years older then Sasuke. Now it had been three years and on the day of Sasuke’s birthday, he just happened to not be home.

Not like it was his fault or anything, okay, maybe it was his fault. But when you had a raving fan girl chasing you, the best choice was to run. And it also wasn’t his fault that he had forgotten his brother’s birthday. It had just slipped his mid that Sasuke was alive at all. Well, I mean, a raving fan girl was chasing him, so he had nothing other than that on his mind.

Sasuke sat alone in his room as he waited for his brother to come back from god knows where he was. Feeling a little let down, he finally got up from the bed and went into the kitchen and sat at the table. Feeling a little better after walking, he decided that he was hungry. Getting up again, he looked into the fridge and pulled out an old container of what he had cooked last night. As he was heating it in the microwave, he put some rice into a bowl and set a pair of chopsticks and a spoon next to it. When the microwave informed him that his meal was hot, he took it out and placed it on the left side of his rice bowl.

Steam billowed out the container as he had opened it and he put his spoon into the spoon.

“Ikadakimas,” he muttered to himself before bringing the spoon up to his face. It was miso soup that he had cooked last night for both Itachi and himself. But that night, Itachi hadn’t been present for the meal, so he had some left over. Sasuke always did the cooking in the house. It wasn’t that Itachi was a bad cook, well, maybe he was, but it was just that Sasuke’s cooking tasted better.

As he finished the meal, he took notice that Itachi had already eaten breakfast while he had been asleep. Sasuke’s heart sunk a little as he remembered that it was his fourteenth birthday today and no one seemed to remember. Well, excluding Sakura and Ino…. and just about all the members of his fan club. They had made that fact clear today when Sasuke went into town to get some more food supplies. He had been running low on tofu and some other necessities.

The Morning went a little something like this:

“SASUKE!” Came the call of Sakura and many other fans. “SASUKE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” They had made it clear to the world that today was his birthday and that no one should forget it either. Many girls came to him bearing gifts of different shapes and sizes. He had only gotten into the shop before Sakura and Ino both came racing towards him bearing gifts.

“Sasuke-kun!” came Ino’s voice. “I got you some of the most beautiful flowers that our shop could afford. I would be honored if you took these…” she trailed off as she started to blush. Sakura had been more straightforward with her approach.

“Sasuke-kun!” she yelled happily. “I got you a really nice set of shuriken that are really shiny and pretty, they’re designer—.” She was cut off as Sasuke raised a hand to stop her.

“First of all,” he said to Ino. “I have no use for flowers what-so-ever. They make the room seem brighter, yes, but they also give my brother allergies. And Second,” he looked at Sakura. “I have no use for shuriken that wont save my life in time of need. All they would do is momentarily blind my opponent with light because they are shiny.” Sakura looked hurt as she turned her head towards Ino.

“You were right, our Sasuke is gone forever!” She whined. “Why?” Sasuke looked at her skeptically.

“When was I ever yours?” he asked as he cocked his head to the side. “I’m as Sasuke, I belong to no one. No one ‘owns’ me. Got that?” he turned to walk away before he heard a very annoying voice.

‘Naruto,’ he thought to himself. ‘Him too?’ He turned around to face even worse matters than before.

“What do you want?” he asked the blonde headed annoyance. Said boy growled under his breath and held out a piece of paper. Sasuke took it and read a very nice handwriting.

‘Dear Sasuke,

Please accept this from Naruto and follow him to us. We, as in Neji, The Kazekage, Chouji, even a few others, and me wish you to come and celebrate your birthday with the village.

Thank you,

Hyuuga Hinata

Sasuke reread the small letter and then dropped it on the ground. “Too troublesome,” he muttered under his breath. Naruto looked at him with a look of horror on his face.

“So that mean you refuse?” He asked. Sasuke just shook his head and gestured the blonde to lead the way to where the others were.

Jump Up And Touch The Sky

The party went fairly well in Sasuke’s view. They had entered the Hokage’s building and they had some cake and a casual talk. After that, he had been allowed home. The sun went down just before he hightailed it out of there as quickly as he could and made it home just before Itachi had come home for dinner.

Without any warning, he quickly made a small, edible dinner for his older brother and laid it out on the kitchen table. He then went to his room and straight to bed. Soon, the house went quiet just before the front door burst open. Sasuke heard his brother fling the meal off the kitchen table and walk down the hallway towards his younger brother’s room.

“Sasuke!” came the drunk, mad voice. Sasuke had predicted that this would happen. It was a Friday night and he usually went to a bar with some friends. He would then come home and yell at Sasuke, but tonight, he had the feeling that it would be worse. He curled up in his bed and pulled the covers tightly around him.

The door burst open to emit a drunk looking Itachi. “Sasuke! You lied! You said you were going to buy juice, but you didn’t!” the elder huffed and supported himself by placing a hand on the doorframe.

“I’m Sorry,” he muttered. Juice had been a priority in Itachi’s life. “the store said they ran out of juice and I couldn’t go to the market because it was too crowded. You know I don’t do too well in crowds.”

“Sasuke,” Itachi whispered. And with that, the façade of being drunk was wiped clean off of his face and voice. “You idiot.”

Three hours earlier, Itachi had been sitting at the bar with Kakashi and Iruka. They had been talking about they’re students, for Itachi was also a teacher, when the subject of Sasuke had come up.

“I hear that it’s his birthday today,” Iruka said. He sipped at a drink that was placed in his hands by a very young, but cute, waitress. Itachi shook his head.

“No, his birthday is March 9th,” he said. Kakashi looked at Itachi with the remaining eye that he had.

“And is Today not March 9th?” he asked. Itachi froze in mid motion of drinking his drink. His fingers started to tremble as it had hit him. Today was his younger brother’s birthday and he had forgotten.

“I also hear that Ino and Sakura had tried giving him presents, but he refused them and many others. I don’t see why he would do that. On your birthday, your supposed to accept gifts from others. I sometimes don’t understand that boy.”

Itachi slammed his drink down on the table and put his head in his hands. “Damn!” he yelled. “How could I forget that it was his birthday today?”

“You’re Itachi, we don’t expect much more from you,” Kakashi said. Iruka snickered and nodded his head.

“It was like that time you forgot that Sasuke existed on Christmas. Now that was funny,” Iruka said.

“Shut up,” Itachi growled out.

“You should something for him this time,” Kakashi advised.

“I should,” was the only replied heard from the solemn, depressed boy. He then got up and made his way out the door. Outside, he headed towards the shops and market while thinking of what his brother would like.

Sasuke looked at his brother curiously and tilted his head to the side. “Why are you calling m an idiot?” he asked ever so innocently.

“You never reminded me that it was your birthday, so I never knew until now. Do you know how long it took me to get ready? Three hours!” Itachi threw his hands up in the air. It was now obvious that he was sober and crazy, all in one.

“What do you mean ‘get ready’?” Sasuke asked. Itachi sighed.

“Then I noticed that for you, I don’t need to get you anything, so I went through all that trouble,” he said, ignoring his brother.

“The trouble to do what?” the younger bugged.

“To get you this,” Itachi said as he held out his hand and showed the younger what was in it.

“Pretty!” Sasuke said, lunging himself towards the object. It was a small necklace that had the Uchiha crest on it. “But, Aniki, You’re supposed to give this to your wife.”

“What wife?” Itachi asked. “I’m too young for that kind of talk. I am only eighteen.”

“But you should be looking for someone whose supposed to carry on the Uchiha family. Someone you love.”

“And did I not just do that?” Itachi asked with a smirk as he tugged his brother closer to his into an embrace. “I bet you it would look nice on you,” he whispered into Sasuke’s ear. The younger blushed as he pushed his brother away.

“This isn’t right,” he muttered under his breath as he looked away.

“You’re right,” Itachi countered as he pulled his brother closer yet again. This time, he didn’t refuse to be held so close. He placed a light kiss on the other’s lips and then again. “It’s not right, it’s perfect. Happy birthday.”

The next morning had been slightly better then the one before. Opening his eyes, Sasuke saw a broad chest in his face. He slightly panicked before remembering that it was his brother. They had been in his bed.

Sasuke sat up and looked down at his brother as he lay sleeping. He lowered himself on top of Itachi and put his mouth next to the other’s ear.

“Aniki, wake up,” he whispered. A soft groan could be heard, but it quickly disappeared as Itachi’s eyes opened.

“Good morning, Sasuke,” he muttered. He pulled his little brother in for a bruising kiss. “Didn’t I say that it was perfect?”
