Chapter 1
Ranma crashed to the ground groaning slightly from his impromptu trip to LEO by way of Akane’s mallet. He looked up at the sky mentally shaking his head to clear the cobwebs out, a moment later his mother enter his frame of view looking a bit concerned. “Son, are you alright?”
With a nod the pigtailed martial artist smiled slightly, “Yep, Akane held back a bit. She wasn’t as mad as I thought she be.”
Nodoka Saotome frowned slightly, “What caused it this time, her cooking, or one of the other girls?”
Ranma blinked thinking about it for a moment when he remembered a piece of paper that was in his hand, “Actually neither, though I think she thought I got another fiancée. Which makes some sense lord only knows how many arrangements the baka made on that trip.”
With a sigh Ranma’s mother glared coolly back at her husband who was sitting in panda form in front of a Go board waiting for the opportunity to cheat. She noted that the stupid panda had beads of sweat appearing on his brow, a clear indication that her son was rather close to mark. “Let me see it, dear?” she asked kindly.
The pig-tailed boy handed the paper to her, slowly standing up as Akane pounded into the back yard looking still angry but her infamous mallet was missing. This meant she wasn’t as angry as before. Ranma watched his mother’s reaction carefully and noted a rather gentle smile had appeared on her face. “What’s that all bout mom?”
“It’s a letter from your sister Haruna,” Nodoka replied.
Ranma blinked in surprise, “I got a sister, um, you never said nothin’ before.”
Mrs. Saotome smile turned gentle and warm looking up at her son, “She was two when you and your lazy father took off on your training trip.”
Akane’s anger was totally gone leaving her looking a bit dejected, she looked up at Ranma for a minute who was busy trying to sort out the new tidbit of information that his mother had given him. He did catch her look though and reach over giving his fiancée’s, shoulder a light squeeze showing he forgave her. The three of them re-read the letter. “A ten year-old teacher?”
“Seems so,” Nodoka stated.
Ranma was about ask another question when he felt his ki senses trip on something the likes he hadn’t felt before in his entire life. The feeling he was getting was power that made Saffron, Herb, Cologne, and Happosai look tree year old infants combined, it held no malice true, but it was heading in his direction.
Akane noticed Ranma’s hands were clenched into fist and he was shaking slightly, “What is it Ranma?” Nodoka looked up from the letter, the panda, Soun also looked up from their game.
“Man, I’m feeling something that could light up Japan for years,” Ranma replied with earnest.
Someone cleared his throat all eyes turned toward the sound. Sitting on top of the wall dressed in a black gi, red undershirt, black cargo style pants, heavy looking, boots, weight training style fingerless gloves, a beige cowboy hat, and a long navy blue trench-coat, was a young man about nineteen years of age, but if one looked into the eyes they’d see his true age in the those dark blue pools. He had long spikey style hair, and was lightly muscled. “Oops, sorry didn’t introduce myself, names Hiryu Himura,” he states. “You might know me, Ranma,” it wasn’t a question.
Ranma eyes went out of focus for a second before images seemed fall into place quickly. “Hiryu, been a long time. What you’ve been up to?”
Akane and company blinked wondering when Ranma could of possibly met someone whose power was coming off of him in torrents. Another question was why didn’t Ranma ask this person to help save Akane from Saffron. Hiryu shrugged, “Been in the US wandering around. Sorry I couldn’t stay in touch heard ya could of used my help a few months ago?”
Ranma nodded glancing at Akane, “Ya could say that.”
Hiryu leapt down from his perch landing lightly on the ground, “Again I’m really sorry bout that.”
In another space and more correctly a time, a lone figure stood looking at the time gates watching as the ebb and flow of the time stream seem to spike a for but an instant. Sailor Pluto frowned slightly. She examined the time stream again reversing its course until it arrived again at the spike. She examines it closely until she spotted a figure in black, what she saw sparked memories flooding into her mind of a gentle compassionate person. A man whose life had ended long before they had met, whose was the path to redeem his soul while at the same time helping another achieve a life of happiness in a world of misery. “Brad,” she whispered his true name her outer cool face cracking into a warm yet sad smile. She knew many things and one his that Brad’s arrival usually meant the beginnings of some dangerous and welcome changes. She moved the time gates ahead and what she saw unnerved her. A demon appears apparently in a mission directly opposite of Brad’s instead of trying to help Ranma; he wishes to destroy Ranma’s happiness. Setsuna watches several scenario’s most ending with Ranma’s and Brad’s death. “Unacceptable,” she states even with the Sailor Senshi’s help most of these scenario’s will still occur, “Then we obtain more allies.”
She focuses on outside factors, looking carefully at Ranma’s and Akane’s blood relatives. She saw Ranma had a sister whose, teacher was an up and coming powerful mage, with more than one partner. “Negi Springfield and his partners, will not be enough,” she stated watching the new scenarios. It tipped the battle a bit however Brad’s life would still be sacrificed in the end. She closed her eyes, as more images of long forgotten talks, jokes, and a kiss just before he left the last universe the Sailor Senshi were involved with Ranma Saotome.
Flashback
Setsuna leaned back surprised at the passionate kiss she gave the long dead warrior. Judging by Hiryu’s reaction he was no less surprised. “I-I-I’m sorry Hiryu, it’s just that my life has been lonely for so long. Being with you remembering you each time, my feelings seem to get stronger with each meeting.”
Hiryu sat back looking stunned for a moment, “I know and I’m sorry as well. But you must realize that once my task is complete and the last world that I’m successful in I will grow old in that world die, and ascend to heaven,” he smirked slightly at the irony, “Much like Lord Jesus himself, only not as selfishly or as cruelly as he was,” he paused a moment, “Tell me Setsuna, you’ve seen many things in the Time Gates, was the Da Vinci Code right?”
The Time Senshi blinked a moment, “That I don’t know with time I maybe able to tell you, but your trying to change the subject do you not care for me?”
Hiryu linked his fingers together steeples them in front of his mouth closing his eyes, “I’d be fool to say I don’t, I am mortal and my Nabiki has been dead for nearly 500,000 years. But I can’t do anything or fall in love with anyone again until my task finishes, it was too hard that one time, and it took a few Millennia to understand why.”
“I’m immortal and I remember you each time you come into a reality that I am in,” Setsuna stated.
The long dead warrior looked upon her face seeing the pain etched in her face, and gave a gentle sigh. “If our paths cross again and it’s the final task you think you could live with the anguish that immortality will no doubt bring. If we were to be together in that event do you think you could move on after I had ascended?”
End flashback
Setsuna stood quietly in the space in front of the Time Gates wondering those last words. Now that Hiryu Himura aka Brad Wall had returned to a reality with her in it the memories flooded through her mind. She knew the answer long before Hiryu had asked that question. Even with the prospect of heartbreak after his death, she knew the answer was an undeniable, “Yes,” she whispered allowed remembering and savoring in the kiss they once shared. She returned her focus on the Time gates searching through them again to see if she could find any more allies. She found some, one of Ranma’s friends he met on his training journey. No doubt someone Ranma forgot in the current hell of his life, “Will that boy and those girls be enough to tip the balance,” she watched the scenario and gritted her teeth in frustration. “Still not enough,” she slammed her fists against the time gates her head drooping in sorrow.
“Something wrong, Ms. Meioh?” a voice stated from behind her. Spinning around she came face to face with a dark haired young girl with markings on her face. A girl Setsuna had privilege of meeting once before.
“Come to chastise me for wanting to save Brad from death?” Setsuna asked in a low growl.
“Death is a natural part of life,” Skuld smirked slightly, “A little green elf told me that once.”
Setsuna dropped to the ground, “I want him to die. He’s been the only person since the death of the Moon Kingdom that ever made me feel alive, made me feel like a woman.”
Skuld’s smirk vanished walking over and sitting next to the Sailor Senshi of Time, “His life ends after this world I feel it, the Ranma and Akane of this world are already close I doubt Hiryu will really need to prod much this time.”
“And what of this Demon that appears?” Setsuna growls, “I would think that almighty computer in heaven could prevent that.”
“It’s a polar opposite of Hiryu, everything Hiryu did to make Ranma’s life happy and full of love, this demon has done the direct opposite. It’s turned Ranma’s life into misery and hell on earth, often times the poor boy slips into darkness and evil,” Skuld paused again. “In one of the worlds Ryoga Hibiki died and drowned in the Jusenkyo spring he fell into. Unlike Brad, Ryoga was deemed too unstable to enter Heaven, and had no redemption planned. However Hell had other plans, they need 500 Ranma’s to assure they have enough chaos energy to invade Heaven.”
Setsuna looked up looking at the grim young goddess, “So your saying this is a battle to determine existence?”
“In no uncertain terms that is correct, if Heaven falls. Then our very existence vanishes. And the key to this is Ranma Saotome’s state of being. If he slips into anguish and despair, Hell will collect the final bit of chaos energy they need. If Ranma lives and happy and loving marriage, Hiryu’s job is complete and he’ll be redeemed,” Skuld smirked slightly, “And be offered a choice.”
Setsuna’s head shot up at that, “What choice?”
“That will be for him to know and you to find out,” with that Skuld vanishes leaving Setsuna puzzled and more determined. She realizes now, that recruitment has taken on a new meaning. She stands before the time Gates and searches not just for friends in Ranma and Akane’s inner circle but those in Hiryu’s, hoping that she’ll find warriors that can aide them in a battle against Hell itself.
