Happy Birthday SadBrokenWings!!!
There was always reason for someone to like the rain when it was sunny out. When it’s sunny, there are no worries as to your clothes soaking through, or your hair getting matted, or your shoes soaking through. Nope, when it’s sunny out, it’s always hot and crisp, leaving you thirsty. So, it’s logical someone wouldn’t mind the rain when they aren’t worrying about it.
Though… when the rain does start, no one ever likes it anymore. Especially when one is stuck in the middle of a down pour. Being caught in the rain always leaves one feeling heavy and weighed down, not to mention thoroughly wet. So, it’s logical someone wouldn’t mind the sun when they don’t have to worry about it.
My empathy, my empathy still makes me feel alive
And sufferin', and sufferin' is always on my mind
My empathy, my empathy still makes me feel alive
So who's the leader, I'm a leader fallin' far behind
Of course, rain never comes when it’s sunny out- not naturally at least. So, any normal person wishing for a little shower on a hot summers day wouldn’t do any good. Of course, any normal person wasn’t Kagome Higurashi. For her, the Gods seemed to deem it fit that she was anything but normal. So when she thought of how nice it would be for a shower, she didn’t expect the sky to fill with ominous clouds and for rain to start pelting her with heavy droplets of water.
“Oh…” she said, almost dumbly, and stopped where she was walking on the sidewalk. The ice cream in her hands was beginning to implode into itself until it finally decided to dribble down her hand and onto the dark concrete. What had started as an innocent walk through the park turned into a mid day bath. She only thanked the heavens that her blue t-shirt wouldn’t become see-through.
Mentally, Kagome cursed herself for not bringing an umbrella, but couldn’t really find where the sense would be in bringing one along on what had been such a beautiful day. That would have been silly. With a sigh, she threw the soggy ice cream cone into a near by trashcan and continued on her way, trying to ignore how her clothes were sticking to her body like a second skin. Again, she thanked the heavens that she had decided to wear shorts instead of a skirt.
I took it easy, took it easy wastin' all my time
Cuz I'm so lazy, I'm so lazy after all this time
I took it easy, took it easy wastin' all my time
So who's the leader, I'm a leader fallin'
Half way through the park, it was becoming apparent that no one else had suspected the rain either. It was completely empty, a sign that everyone had rushed right home instead of whipping out their umbrellas. That, at least, made her feel a bit smarter. Still… she had wished that she at least could have made it home before she took a shower.
Absentmindedly, Kagome stopped to look at the rain falling around her, not noticing that it was only around her. Her hands idly reached for her hair to ring out some of the excess water that was making her head feel twice as heavy. “Oh darn,” she said inattentively.
“I do believe you’re a bit wet, Higurashi-san.”
Giving a shriek, Kagome jumped and looked up, only seeing the blue of an umbrella being held above her head. She turned to get a better look at the body of the vaguely familiar voice. She shouldn’t have been surprised at the deep emerald eyes that stared back at her though, only one person ever called her by that name. And while he wasn’t a complete stranger, they never made it a habit to meet outside of their circle of friends… friends meaning Eri dragging her to all the school related functions at her new high school.

“Minamino-san,” she sighed out with a polite, yet somewhat playful, smile. “You’re the only person I know that would have an umbrella on what had been such a beautiful day.”
He smiled back down at her, his handsome features positively glowing. Kagome had to force down a blush (she swore he did that on purpose half the time). “I do believe I’m also the only person who would check the weather on such a beautiful day. It’s been predicted that the rain will last for the rest of the day.”
Again, Kagome blushed. It was a little more than embarrassing that she hadn’t been prepared and he had, it even made her feel slightly inferior. The red head seemed to notice the change in her demeanor despite the smile she still had on her face. He put a friendly hand on her shoulder to try and make her feel better. It didn’t seem to work.

Kurama mentally growled at himself. After nearly a year of casual encounters inside of school, he was beginning to get extremely frustrated at her lack of attention. Since the initial introduction at Meiou’s science fair on behalf of Kagome’s friend what’s-her-face, Kurama had been looking forward to school activities (though he still didn’t join the pesky chemistry club). He didn’t like the feelings he was getting when he saw the completely normal girl- he didn’t usually want anything to do with normal girls… outside of friendship surly.
Kagome had caught his attention, though, when she actually knew what his project for the science fair was (though to this day, he couldn’t remember anything past her smile). She seemed to generally understand what he was talking about as he explained it while most others didn’t. Her reputation, from the few things he heard about her, was that she wasn’t smart- having missed a lot of school. It didn’t do her justice, though, she seemed quite intelligent.

Back then; he had given her a casual greeting, almost a bored one. If she was anything like her friend, he didn’t want her getting attached. It had worked, she didn’t stalk him or appear to have any sort of attraction to him. But now he was beginning to regret his decision. He had ‘ran into’ Kagome when her friend had lugged her to his schools activities and she had merely brushed him off with an obligatory hello. Maybe, maybe, if he was lucky he could pull her into a short conversation. She acted as though she didn’t really want anything to do with him.
It wasn’t until he truly smiled at her when she was being positively cute that she blushed at him for the first time. That had been the end of that- he knew he had to do something about this girl. Youko even made it a point to scold him for being so rude in their initial introduction. Kurama had grumbled about it but didn’t deny that he had been stupid. He had been stupid.

“May I,” he said after a moment or two of them just standing there. He cleared his throat when he realized that Kagome wasn’t paying attention. She jumped a little and snapped her eyes to look at him. The bright blue orbs were wide with embarrassment at being caught daydreaming. He smiled at her. “May I walk you home Higurashi-san? I’m sure you don’t want to continue on in the rain.”
Kagome tilted her heard and brought her slender fingers to her lips in thought. Kurama bbegan to feel a bubble of hopefulness at her contemplation before it burst. She shook her head with a pity smile. “No thank you Minamino-san, I’m already wet. Thank you for the offer tho-”
With a surprised shriek, Kagome looked down at the big glob of gooey mud that was making its slow way down the front of her shirt. Kurama looked on in something amid shock and humor as she searched around for who had thrown it. Both their eyes fell onto a bush that mysteriously began laughing. A small child jumped out, his rusty hair and turquoise eyes surprising Kurama.

“Shippo you brat!” Kagome shrieked and bolted from the confines of the umbrella. Kurama stared on in amusement as she tackled the boy to the ground. A fountain of mud erupted as they wrestled for dominance. Both were laughing gaily, not even remembering he was there anymore. It looked… fun. Youko’s tails were swishing back and forth excitedly as if he were ready to pounce. Kurama, not one being for to be such a snoot, allowed the kitsune to fill out his limbs, giving him semi-control over them.
It was then that fist-sized ball of mud smacked him in the side of the face. There was silence. Golden eyes glimpsed to where the two were staring at him with wide, innocent eyes. Kagome was the first to react, her head falling back and a beautiful ringing laughter making its way from her mouth. The boy was next to start laughing before Kurama and Youko found it impossible to try and stay silent any longer.

He dropped the umbrella, taking in the wonderful feeling of freedom as the rain instantly began to soak his clothes. Without a second’s hesitation, he darted forward, going unnoticed by the two. He leaned down and scooped up some of the forming mud, his eyes glinting mischievously before he chucked it (lightly) at Kagome. It hit her on the side of the neck, eliciting a squeal as it oozed down into her shirt. She looked over her shoulder at him, noticing the obvious difference in the way he held himself. Her and the Shippo exchanged glances before tackling him to the ground with a laughing cry.
Kurama found himself the victim of the onslaught of small hands expertly found where he was ticklish (though truth be told he didn’t even know he was ticklish). He knew mud was caking his hair but didn’t care anymore. He reached out and managed to find Kagome’s shoulder through the rain and the mud. In one quick motion, he switched their positions, pinning her to the soggy ground. He indistinctly noted that the boy who had started this whole encounter was slipping away with a laughing aura.

He leaned over to block the rain from hitting Kagome in the face, keeping it from her eyes and mouth. His eyes were glowing gold, laughing silently as she stared up at him with a wide grin on her face. Her cheeks were tinted an enticing pink from the game, her chest heaving her breath caught up with her. She moved her feet under him; he noticed that her flip-flops had been lost sometime in the incident. Her cute little toes wiggled under the tickling pelt of the rain. Adorable.
“And here I always thought you were a stuck-up,” she giggled out. Kurama’s eyes widened fractionally. Was… was that the reason she hadn’t wanted to spend time with him? He… he was stuck up? Youko was in hysterics in the back of their mind, his control over their body slipping. Kurama’s eyes glided back to their enticing green. He smirked down at Kagome, all caution going to the wind.

With boldness that surprised even Youko, Kurama leaned down slowly, his tongue dragging across Kagome’s cheek and cleaning it from its muddy mess. He blanched, now knowing why he never did anything like that. He had to keep himself from turning green and forced the grit down his throat as to not embarrass himself further. Kagome’s face was flamed red as she met his eyes, shocked. Kurama would have enjoyed the moment further and continued his attack provided he could get the taste out of his mouth.
If only mud tasted good… then he would have taken a step further. He eyed the brown trickle that was making its way down her chest and licked his lips.
